  1. There seems to be several Night Caces in the Renton area. I live near Olympia, but I need to make a trip north and check out the caches. Probably could do a few of them in one night.

  2. When placing a new cache, how do you find out who owns the land that you are placing the cache? Also, what constitutes trespassing? I have seen that if you are not Hunting Animals, the landowner must have "Not trespassing" signs before you can be arrested. Also, if you are asked to leave, you face arrest if you return.

There are lots of great looking places to hide caches, but I just don't know how to find out the name of the landowner. I don't want to place a cache on someone's land that does not welcome other cachers to hunt for it.

  3. I agree there are puzzles that help me undetstand the area and it's history. There are also puzzles that make me search for information that I would not normally find. However, there are puzzles that seems to be some code the author determined and you have to figure it out. I am sure people enjoy doing this, but if you want people to find your cache, make it a puzzle that people won't give up on and pass on finding your cache. Also, add a link so we can check our answer after we solve the puzzle. The most frustrating thing about these puzzles is having a incorrect number in the coordinates and not be close to the actual cache.

  4. Definitely some people like to solve puzzles and some people don't. This is Geocaching and my major effort is to find a cache; not to solve someone's almost impossible puzzle. If you like puzzles, I am sure there are thousands of sites on the internet just for that purpose. If you want to put up a puzzle, don't make it so hard that only a few people try to solve it. Also, by placing a cache using a hard puzzle, you have taken up an area that someone could have placed a traditional cache. In my area, the caches are so satturated that it is very hard to find a good location to place a new cache. I am sure you puzzle lovers are going to jump on me for this post, but if all you want to do is to solve the puzzle and not look for the Geocache, then try www.puzzle.com or something like that. :)

  5. Basically....I HATE puzzle caches. And I know everyone has their own opinion and many of you LOVE them. Normally, I just filter them out. I will solve the easier ones (especially with a way to check to see if I have the correct corrdinates). Some of the puzzles are too hard and not interesting. I guess the owners of those just don't want as many people visiting their caches. It's easy to see that often their numbers of visits are lower. When I come home after a long day at work, I want to relax by hunting a few caches, not solving puzzles. But again...to each his own!!!

  6. I enjoy the caches that were designed for Night most. However, we still do other caches at night if the description says 24/7. Sometimes if it is around houses, we will wait until the daytime so we are not confused with Burglers.

  7. My daughter and I really enjoy doing night caches. There are a few in our area but it seems there are not a lot of people who do Night caches. Some of our favorites are "The Wicked Woods", "Spider Eyes" and "The Bloated Festering Head". What are some of your favorites and maybe we could check some of them out.

  8. Halloween Night...11pm....42 degree temperature...and heading deep into the swamp where Elllylidan had been seen on many occasions. I had tried for over a month in the forums to get a group together but no one could get over their fright to go with me. My daugher, who is only 17 told me she would be glad to go with me. We entered the Swamp around 10 pm and immediately fell into waist deep water. With the temperature near freezing, the water along was a jolt but with the smell of the mud, it was almost more than we could take. After the mud, it was Bushwhacking time. It wasn't long until we were almost exhausted!!! The Moon was almost full and for a Halloween Night, that could only mean Trouble!!!! However, with all the mud, water and bushwhacking we continued on our trip to the Festering Head. Finally we spotted something in the woods ahead. What we saw was a Red Glow. As we got closer we saw the glow came from the skull of of a skeleton of something that was laying on the ground. We knew this spelled trouble ahead. Finally we made it to GZ and were checking out the Cache. As I was on the Cell phone letting my wife know we were safe, my daughter begins to turn off her light and tells me that she hears something breaking limbs. All of a sudden one of the most terrifying sights I have ever seen BURSTS through the trees with a scream that could knock the leaves off the trees. IT WAS SWAMP THING!!!! We had entered his swamp and he was not going to let us leave...at least not leave ALIVE!!!!! So what did I do...What any father would do...Give him Nicole for letting me leave Alive. And Nicole seem happy about the trade. She thought he was cute and that he looked better than many of her friends. So I grab my light and walking pole and head out of the woods alone after midnight on Halloween Night. All of a sudden out of a mist on the road ahead, I see some kind of form appearing. Could it be the Swamp Thing coming back to take me back into the Swamp? Or Could it Be....Or Could it Be????? Yes it WAS!!!! IT WAS NICOLE!!! She had gotten away from Swamp Thing and was back with me...alive and well. Finally I got the real story from her. Once they got where Swamp Thing could see her, he was so Frightened that he ran deep into the Swamp. Her looks and Smell had chased him away and she found a road that brought her back to me. Finally reunited again, we think back on our Halloween Adventure at "The Bloated Festering Head of our Last Victim" and remember all the fun we had. This was a GREAT cache and we both said it was the GREATEST Halloween that we had ever had.

Everyone who did not show up for this hunt were the one's that Lost out This Halloween. This was the most fun EVER!!!! Hopefully the next time I organize a Night Cache I will have more to join so we can Share the Fun!!! Hope you all had a Happy Halloween!!!!! :(

  10. From what I understand the scent of Peg or Ellylidan alone will tip me off well before they see me. Being alone allows me to travel in the shadows and darkness of the swamp. Maybe Peg and Ellylidan will be surprised at what THEY see!!!! It is Halloween Night and you never know what tranformations can happen on that night!!!!

  11. Why is no one responding to Halloween Caches??? There are lots of them around Olympia, WA. For one, try Wicked Woods @ Night. Watch out for the eyes that may follow you in the woods. There are rumors of people that never made it out of the woods and are still missing.

If you really want to have a good Halloween, then join me at "The Bloated Festering Head of My Last Victim". Be prepared to deal with dead, festering Swamp people!!!! Also, bring your mud gear, because you will need it. Seems so far, everyone has changed their minds about joining me on Halloween Night. Not sure if it is too wet or too frightening!!!!

  12. There is a cache near Olympia, WA that is called Rabbit Hole cache (spelled a little different) and it is a hole in the bank of a stream that has a cache built into it. It is a very clever cache. However, I am not sure what the owner above meant when he said send the TB to every Rabbit Hole.

  13. I, Xantos, will be the lone soul exploring the swamps on Halloween night and I will be there at 10pm. You better bring all your "Swampy" buddies and I will send all of them back to the mucky depths!!! :)

Hopefully it will be raining so some of that Swampy STINK will wash off !!! Ha-ha :(

  14. Wow...I forgot he was already dead!!! :( Now I am in trouble!!! :)

I was surprised I could not get a group together for the hunt but it will be fun by myself. I won't have to worry about letting a limb slap anyone in the face. My daughter always complains about that,. :)

  15. Looks like I am going to be a loner on Saturday night. Even my daughter now has a Halloween party to go to. So just me and old Ellylidan out in the swamp together. However, since I am licensed, I should bring my two friends with me...Mr Smith and Mr Wesson. They are my 44 caliber Special friends!!!!! He-he. They take care of me when I am all along with nothing but Swamp Thangs running around!!! LOL
