  1. I would suggest taking a look at the DeLorme PN40/30. They can use the Navionics cards for boating and you can easily get the google look and feel on the unit.
  2. The PN40 currently doesn't have any detailed maps for outside North America. You could purchase the XMap sofware and put maps (not routeable) on the device but I think you would be better off with a unit that would cover your area.
  3. Just a note the the field notes are separate from the GPX files and will combine any notes (finds, DNF, Write Note, Needs Maint) into 1 file no matter on how many GPX files are used.
  4. Macro referenced above is by Hynr http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=...amp;#entry95402
  5. So if you have a list of non-geocache waypoint (say like waterfalls, libraries, wi-fi hotspots) you can have a separate file for each group. The PN will only display 1 file at a time but each file can contain up to 1000 waypoints (or caches)
  6. Caches are waypoints. After you have loaded the caches to the unit just go to menu, waypoints, file, save as, name the file. Delete the caches on the PN40 and start the process all over again. When you want to load a file back go to waypoints, File, Open select the file and the PN now display all the waypoints (and caches) associated with the file. The 2.8 update should make this process simpler. Edit to add - If you use GSAK then I think there is a macro that will create the file(s) for your selected caches that based upon some user setting on how many caches\waypoints you want to have in each file.
  7. Actual I was the one to say you can get 5791 sq miles of USGS in a day and the size would about 300MB (depending on where you are - Mountains may have larger sizes)
  8. I was getting 140 KB/sec earlier today.
  9. Okay some quick calculation With USGS Quads you can select 1000 km2 (386 square miles) in one package. You can have 5 packages in a requestion so that give you 5000 km2 (1930 square miles). You can submit 3 request before you have to download giving a total of 15000 km2 (5791 square miles) For Color the limit is 250 km2 in a package so the total would be 3750 km2 (1447 square miles). For DOQQ it would be twice this number. That is a lot of land coverage that you can get easily get in 1 day. Probably more land area then anyone be able to cover in a day while caching.
  10. I think it is 999 finds that the unit will record and it can be cleared (all found caches)
  11. DeLorme allow users to select the type of imagery and the area you want to download. The minimum grid size is around 3 sq km
  12. Also make sure you have at least the 2.6 firmware installed.
  13. It looks like the Western U.S. update is the one you need. Roughly speaking if you were to draw a line straight South from the western edge of the Chicago suburbs then everything to the West of that line would be on the Western U.S. update. Happy caching! That sound inconvienent for someone who lives in the western suburbs, no? Or is there an alternative such as "midwest"? It appears that there is an overlap between the western and eastern sections. If you pick the western maps you can get everything west of the Mississippi River while the Eastern sections you get everything east of central Kansas/Nebraska
  14. Have you tried speaking with Tech support? What kind of connection do you have? I have had no problem downloading any imagery. DSL. Still nothing. Downloaded the update for the gps while waiting, at least got something today. Did you get an email with the notification that the package was ready? You should be able to donwload from it also. If you didn't get an email I think a call to their Tech Support is in order.
  15. I would agree with missionMode. I also use GSAK to load my caches and the only thing I use CR for is the load my field notes. Although the coin is nice I wouldn't want to spend $60 for it (I think CR is still $10)
  16. Have you tried speaking with Tech support? What kind of connection do you have? I have had no problem downloading any imagery.
  17. Now is is 1 in Detroit, 1 in Washington D.C and the other is in some foreign country.
  18. The PN20 will work with CR just slower. I have a PN40 and a PN20 and both can be used with CR or GSAK. The PN20 does have a lower limit of characters then the 30/40 and if loaded with a lot of caches it can be very slow. I would recommend getting a 30 instead of the 20 if you can afford it. Don't knnow what the 20s are going for now but you can find some good deals on the 30.
  19. I use the Zagg screen protector and like it (also on sale today 12/14 for 50% off)and don't have much of an issue with glare. DeLorme also has a screen protecter that works pretty well in the travel pack.
  20. I get 12-14 hours on a set of batteries, cover is opened by with 2 screws (not to difficult to use), I have been in some heavy tree cover (hardwood forest of Missouri) and don't lose signal and I think cowboy answered the question about 1000 caches. Right now I have close to 4000 on my unit (split into several geographical areas or based on if they have trackable items, or how difficult the cache is). (I use GSAK to load and update the unit)
  21. Have you upgraded to at least firmware version 2.6? The early version did have some wandering issues.
  22. Yes the PN40 comes with maps of Canada, Mexico and the U.S. The Canada and Mexico maps are only street level detail (no topo) while the U.S. has both street level and topo. You are able to use the unit for road navigation although it might take a couple of seconds longer to create a route then a dedicated car unit. I think car unit may have more POIs also.
  23. Eagle AccuNav Sport (my first GPS and actually have 2 of them) Delorme PN20 Delorme PN40SE
  24. It is actually North America - With T8 you now have Canada, Mexico and U.S. road detail. They just released Canada Topo downloads to the $30/year imagery.
