  1. Personally, I enjoy moving trackable items. Lately, however, I haven't been caching much, so I just leave the trackables in the caches. I do take down the numbers and log them as discovered. Usually in the "discovered" log I tell the owners that I wasn't in a position to help their trackable and tell them what condition its in.
  2. Interesting choice of words.... Speaking from over 6 years of experience and a few thousand bugs moved as well as owning quite a few myself..... As a mover of bugs, the worst thing about ALL travel bugs is their owners. Strictly speaking; the over expectant, unrealistic owners. Let me tell you a story of just one owner I encountered: I picked up 2 of his bugs in a cache. One had a totally messed up bug page and I helped the owner fix it via several emails. The other had a registration problem and I helped him contact Groundspeak to fix that error. Two weeks later I moved his bugs almost 400 miles after first logging them in and out of a cache closer to home to give them the extra mileage they deserved.... I got home from my trip and opened a nasty email from the owner about me not fulfilling his two TBs diverse missions and for not posting pictures. About 9 months later I happened upon one of this same owner's bugs in a cache. I discovered it commenting on its condition and left it there. I got another nasty email from the owner about NOT moving his bug and how it was my responsibility as a "good geocacher" to accomodate his bug. I forwarded all the previous helpful email back to him (gotta love gmail) and told him off point by point. I got another email back telling me what a jerk I was for pointing out what a jerk he was. I've had about 2 dozen similar exchanges with helicoptor hovering owner's who have unrealistic expectations. I've also had about a dozen run-ins with creepy third parties who enquire on bugs that don't even belong to them. Those emails get forwarded directly to the owners. I learned my lesson after the first creepy third party I responded to. BTW- I like moving ALL tbs. Especially the BIIIIIG ones. How unprofessional!! That certainly was one RUDE owner!
  3. I highly recommend Ebay. I have noticed that the coins I'm usually interested in end up going above my price range, which is a good thing, if your the seller!
  4. I recently place a TB & Geocoin hotel (see GC1QKXY). In the desctiption I simply asked people to please not take all the trackables at once. So far it has only been visited once, mainly thanks to the TONS of rain we've been getting here in Oklahoma!!
  5. I have a TB (TB2APZC) with the goal to go to Liepzig and Stuttgart, Germany. I sure hope that it makes it there!
  6. Today I found a baseball cap with the words "Old West" on it. It looks like a hunting type cap. Also found a TB in the same cache. So far, the hat is the most valuable (and most useful) thing I've found in a cache. Stupid button looked so good I hit it twice!!!!!

  8. Seriously?? I would pounce on that! Where is it? (Kidding of course... I'm sure it's several thousand miles from me ) I'd pounce on that thing too! Maybe people think it's fake or something...
  9. I've heard of couples using caching as a way to propose, such as a guy hiding a special cache and have his girlfriend find it with a ring inside. Have any of ya'll out there heard of any stories like this? P.S. I'm NOT looking for ideas! I don't even have a girlfriend ~ yet!!!
  10. Here is a REALLY USLESS HINT!!! Short discription: Muggles, Muggles, Muggles Long discription: Muggles, Muggles, Muggles, Muggles, Muggles USELESS HINT!!!!: Stealth will be required. Did I mention Muggles? Totally useless! And no, I DIDN'T find it!
  11. I try to send the TB/geocoin on its way within the advised 2 week span. If you can't do that, you need to notify the owner that you intend to keep it longer than two weeks. Personally, I WOULD NOT recommend keeping it longer than 1 month. If you can't place it, pass it along to another geocacher who can .
  12. I considered this, but it may actually cause more confusion since some folks won't know which code to put in there. As a side note, we're considering only selling 1 tag instead of a tag and a copy tag. Since we will be able to print on demand we can always print a new tag number if the first one goes missing. This will also reduce the cost since we only need to manufacture one of them. Of course, you can still have a second tag if you wish, but it will be by request (and cost more). I know folks use the copy tags as keychains and such. I like the second tag as a keychain, but if the price is reduced, then, well, I can do without the extra tag!
  13. I say go ahead and do it. I am hoping to do something of a similar nature. Except I hope to release two TBs in the same cache (though probably at different times) and have them race the their destination.
  14. ...when I take my GPSr almost everywhere...when I wander the store weighing the pros and cons of every container I pass...when I keep a look out for a possible evil continer on a walk... all these thing I do, as well as others...
  15. We had to put our doq down this morning. He went with us on only one caching trip (he didn't like it!), but it got me thinking. How many people take their pets with them when geocaching? Do they enjoy it? Do they help or hinder you? Pet Pictures welcome, as well as stories!
  16. If I had one, I would take it with me. Whether or not I would use it to look for the cache, I doubt it. Unless, of course, it was a pesky micro or nano!
  17. Sorry pal, you ain't going to get any more hints on that cache from me! MY LIPS ARE SEALED!!!!!!!
  18. You've missed a major source of boatloads of revenue: trackable items. The sale of Travel Bug Dog Tags at $5.95 a pop, and they also make a couple of dollars on every single trackable at geocaching.com geocoin ever produced. This cost is of course hidden to you if you were to plop down $10 at oakcoins.com or any other website where you can buy geocoins. Anyone who ever went out to a vendor and had their own custom geocoins produced knows this though. Yes, of course I do realize there is the cost involved of the upkeep of a large, ever expanding tracking system on the website. I've never had a problem with people (and there are many) who bemoan the loss of "free geocaching". Geocaching was invented on the internet (usenet, more specifically) for free. There are two U.S. based alternative Geocaching websites who have pledged to be forever free (they both accept Pay Pal donations). But if you want the worlds largest database of caches, that makes those other two websites a pimple on this websites butt, you're going to have to get it from a privately owned for profit company (Groundspeak, Inc.) The point is that you do not HAVE to pay to use this site. The majority of caches are free to find. You can use the forums for free. You can still hide them for free. Yes, they sell products to enhance the experience. Yes, they have additional services for paying members. Yes people CAN make a chache they hide for premium members only. Yes they make a profit, who cares? Is there anything WRONG with someone making a profit off something that so many people seem to enjoy? The way it is now is people can choose how much they want to get into it and to what level they want to contribute. When people hide a cache, they contribute. When people become paying members, they contribute. When people post on the forums, they contribute. Free caching is not coming to an end, nobodoy is making anyone become a premium member. However, as a note, I AM and I think it is worth it. (My premium membership is on another account, Team V3). Well said, man! I agree with you 100%!
  19. Originally I only got a basic membership because I didn't want a Premium until I had tried out cachin'. I like caching so much though, that I decided to to go ahead and buy a Premium membership. I think its fair to pay $30/year for a few extra caches plus some other cool features.
  20. I'm writing a paper in school and I need ya'll's opinion. What cache type do you consider to be the hardest (Mystery, Multicache, Traditional, etc.)? Stories welcome as always!
  21. Generally I like wierd caches. The weirdest so far would be the "plate cache" which looks like an electric plate cover. Pretty neat I thought! I plan on placing some wierd caches myself!
  22. I have been considering placing a cache along my fenceline, and I was just wondering: How popular are "home caches" (i.e. putting one on or along your property)? Do ya'll out there have any? I know of a couple of caches in my area that are within sight of the owners home. (If you want to share experiences with home caches, feel free to do so!)
  23. Happened to me once. I just "grabbed it, but not from a cache," then sent it on its way.
