  1. I'm probably not much help but I remember reading about some type of "beacon" that was for tracking lost hikers, animals, kids, etc. Might be worth a google search.
  2. I'd love to do Colorado but since I don't live anywhere near there I could help out (Eric?) with the western part of NC. Could place one within 1 mile of I-40.
  3. When I was growing up I thought that was my last name & "Come here" my first. That Doc thing sounds pretty classy to me.
  4. I suspect what it might mean but I think I missed the memo.....
  5. I bought the 330 from Ed & he did me right! It was above & beyond the description. Good people to do business with.
  6. I really like the yearly gifts they send us. First year was a hiking stick, then a fleece jacket, backpack, etc. I'm pretty sure we get a new GPS for 10 years? Might be 12. All that's great but the $30 cost is a great donation to support the site. I'm gettin' my moneys worth.
  7. I remember when things were "different" but not better. We used to have to drive 60+ miles for a cache since we'd found the scarce few in the general area. I remember looking for Benchmarks just to get that "fix" I needed. I remember manually inputing coords in the GPS (No wait, I still do that) I remember caching with printouts (Nope, still do that too) I even remember some folks east of us thinking they could beat us in a caching competition! I guess change is only bad if you let it change you. What change I've seen was basicly for the better & it's just as much fun as it always was.
  8. Thats sad, those things are expensive! You know if he swallowed it whole you could possibly get it back. May have to hose it off a bit.
  9. All you would have to do is post a reviewer note of the elevation difference.
  10. I totally agree & appreciate anyone informing me about it. I like knowing of a deal be it an individual, retailer, ebay etc.
  11. This might be a good time for a poll as to what your customers prefer.
  12. I only had a chance to search out one on the mainland but all the ones on the island were pretty good especially while on a bike. There were quite a few interesting ones at Lovers Key but didn't have time to search them out.
  13. I've got a cache where someone complained about the trail being muddy when in the log they stated it rained the day before. (Doh! #1) On the same cache someone posted a note warning future finders that it would be a 2 mile round trip....the description says it's approx 1 mile to the cache. (Doh! #2) You can't please 'em all so no use worrying about it. Keep hiding them & have fun.
  14. Good question. Kinda like whats the point in knowing how to spell.
  15. Just registered & will keep a check on the sites progress. I sometimes travel in & around NC & upper SC. Good parking advice would come in handy!
  16. Got the same one just to have for a spare. Works great. It has a shock absorber, compass (that's pretty accurate) & is surprisingly strong. Now it's the only one I use. A rubber tip for my old one cost $5 so I figured I couldn't go wrong.
  17. I got one years ago & after the guy finished he said "it's guaranteed for 6 months.....after the day you die!
  18. My first thought was no but I guess you meant a "hard time". Yes she does.
  19. I sent them an email quoteing the guidelines & thanking them for mentioning us. FWIW
  20. You're correct, of course. However, there are many containers (and GPSrs) that are waterproof to acceptable limits. One such container is the trusty ammo box. This one eventually did leak when the barnacles fouled the seal. Any idea how long it would take for the barnacles to cover a container this size? That would make for unigue camo just by breaking up the shape of it.
  21. I realize you're not in the home office but can you guys not match ISP numbers to "unveil" someone with a sock puppet account?
  22. 30 cal are $1.50-$2.00 at flea markets & gun shows. 50's are usually $3-$4. At least around here. (NC)
  23. Back in my earlier caching days I did just this & you're right, it's pretty lame. The cache was actually gone & the empty hook on the tree proved that. I left a makeshift container with a puesdo logbook & a couple of trade items. Glad I did as it was found a short time later so at least I saved them the aggravation. It turned out the hider had quit & I later placed a cache in the same area cause it was a neat spot. Anyways, the other night I got to thinking about the fact I'd logged it as a find (and it truly wasn't) & never had went back to change it to a note. It's now updated & I'do believe I'm sleeping at least 12 minutes longer each night. Hopefully all wrong-doer's will right their ways in the future. You know who you are.
