  1. I just got a garmin etrex (yellow) It didn't come with the PC cable (I got it on ebay). So if anyone has one they want to sell, let me know. Or if you know where I can pick one up in the Cleveland Ohio area, please let me know. Thanks RedJada
  2. Thanks Mod. Look here for more photos and info. Im open to any ideas. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...421&st=2850
  3. Most definitely!!! I don't think this is going to an easy find. Going to have to work for this one. Its definitely going to off the beaten path. I like the idea about the combo lock. I'm going to give it some thought.
  4. We came across this treasure chest yesterday. It was sitting by the street if front of some ones house. So we stopped and knocked on the door to see if they put it out for trash, sure enough. Bingo, its a nice wood chest covered by thin sheet metal. Its going to take a little work, but were going to fix this up for a nice hide. It needs a new bottom and the sheet metal around the bottom is rusted pretty good. But I happen to work at a place that deals with sheet metal all day. So, that will be an easy fix for me. Putting in a new bottom will be simple too. The way the lid closes, I think it will be easy to put a nice weather seal around the lid. I am open to suggestions on how to water proof this chest. Any ideas will be appreciated. I will add new photos as the project moves along. Being dog/cat people, that's going to be the theme for this hide. Going to load this treasure chest full of dog and cat toys. Take one leave one. Also open to ideas on how to hide something this big. I'm thinking its going to have to be a hard find do to its size. So any ideas on how to hide will be appreciated. Thanks RedJada
  5. Well, if I did this right. Here is a photo. Ill put a few more in the CCC forum.
  6. Very cool, I want to plant a treasure chest as the final for a pirate themed cache...have the chest, but my plan was to find a rubbermaid or loc n loc tub big enough to hold the chest...figuring no matter where I place it I'll have to protect it from the rain & snow. Are you planning to do that? Yes, some how I'm going to water proof it and make it water tight. Team black-cat has a good idea. A nice camo tarp would help to keep it dry and help hide it as well. After I Finnish my morning coffee, Ill put up some photos of what it looks like know.
  7. Well, logged 2 more finds today. Had 8 loaded but just got too cold. We did manage to get our first hide put out and waiting for the review. On our way home we came across a treasure chest sitting out for trash. Its about 2 feet wide 18 inches tall and 14 inches deep and looks just like a treasure chest. It needs a little work but its going to be worth it. When I get it ready, Ill post some photos. So here's the plan. Being we are dog/cat people. Were going to load it with dog/cat toys. Take one/leave one. Due to the size, its going to be hard to hide. But were in NE Ohio, Ill find a place. But it won't be easy. What do you think? Redjada
  8. I agree, I'm new at this game to. I went for the smalls and the regulars to start. If there is a micro in the area, Ill look for it. Think I have one or two out of my 18 finds, and my better half found those. So, look for the easy smalls/regulars to start. Smalls are around the size of a peanut butter jar. Regulars, ammo box size. But usually well camouflaged. If you can find the easy ones, then you will learn how the game is played and what to look for. We logged two today, but the snow makes it hard. Here's what you have to do. You need to re-train your eyes to look for something they don't see. Goto http://www.fedex.com/us/ and see if you can see the arrow in "FEDEX" logo in the upper left corner. If you see it, that's Geo Caching
  9. Is it possible to have just a couple coins made? I have been looking around and it seems there are minims of 100-250. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  10. Well, this hide is only .2 miles from my house. So maintenance wont be a problem. As of now, its been temporarily archived. So I'm watching along with 2 other Geo searchers. I kinda wanted to get out this weekend to hide my first one. But with new snow on the ground and another 3" coming tomorrow. I think Ill wait. But Ill probably go look for a few.
  11. Sometimes yes sometimes no. Actualy I have one like this. The old one had so many complaints about it that the out of town cacher who placed it (they moved after placing it) got a number of dnfs in a row they archived it. I was really pleased as I had already checked out a (imo) better location about 30 feet away from the original. On the other hand a long running cache in a near by city was about to be archived because it had gone missing again and the owner no longer lived close enough to look after it. This was adopted by another local and is still going strong. How much history does the cache have, is it one that everyone recomends to others to find, if so I would just replace it and look after it even without the adoption. If it is just another cache get it archived and then decide if it is worth placing a new one there. The cache was placed Dec. of 2004. and it has 145 logs, 2 DNF, 1 needs maint. and 1 needs archived. So I think I will replace it if it get archived.
  12. Thats me. Too bad someone has already beat me to it.
  13. Crap!!! Why didn't I think of that? I just put in the request to have it archived
  14. There are two cache's by my house. One I have located and it was in poor shape. Wet and soggy inside. One is GCM7W8 the other GC133MR. it appers the owner of these has not loged into geocaching.com since June of 2007. I have sent emails to the owner asking if I could adopt but have no replys. So I was wondering if there is a way I could adopt them? Any one have any ideas? Thanks
  15. I can get a good deal on one of these. $60 new. Just wondering if it would work as well as my street piolet.

    Forum Trafic

The past couple days I have been having a heck of a time getting into the forums. I usually use Firefox, but have the same problem with IE. One minute its fine, the next it will time out. Is it me or is it there are too many people trying to get on the forums?
  17. I agree, start with the easy ones. Some hiders can be clever. Were new at this as well and we found/logged 15 the past weekend. One thing I can tell you, your going to have to re-train your eyes. When your eyes tells your brain "that's just a pile of logs" Whats that saying? Oh yea, "there's more than what meets the eye" We have been using our garmin streetpiolet c340. So far, its working great. A couple of times, I found my self dang near standing on the cache. And even then, had to look for it. Focus Once you find your first one. Well, you'll see
  18. Thanks for all the feed back. I was curios to what everyone thought about the idea. And seeing by the reply's, I don't think Ill try it. I'm going to attempt to hide my first cache this weekend, as long as the snow holds off. Thanks for the help. RedJada
  19. I didn't mean Geo coins. I was talking hiding a cache. And in the description include something like. "For the metal detector people out there, I have also hidden a 1964 silver dollar with in 30ft of this cache. Finders keepers." Anyone think this is feasible?
  20. I was wondering if anyone has hidden a cache and at the same time hidden some coins (or something) in the area to be found with a metal detector? Something I'm thinking about doing. Just wondering if its allowed?
  21. Just found our first geo coin. Going to log it when Im done here. So, correct me if Im wrong. Here in a little bit (after we warm up) were going to go out again. I plan dropping this coin in another cache. Is this the proper thing to do?

    Geo Coins

Sorry everyone. But. How would I (just in case) log in a coin? And would there be any reason not to activate a coin.
