  1. Add me to the waitlist, my wife has been very involved with this.. shelineclan@yahoo.com
  2. Thank You...Geneoristy should be part of everyone's daily list.
  3. Cachemate works very well for me, download from GSAK right on to the SD card; then I open it from there.
  4. Pelican 1020 Micro Case. Waterproof, crushproof for the pack, carry a small notebook with pencil, and a small piece of foam.
  5. Currently deployed to Okinawa, all the Caches here are WGS 84, and there are absolutely no problems with any GPS, I use a 60csx, some of my guys have Explorist, Etrexs, etc. There are no maps in my GPS, but if you have it programed or have software your square. I download to GSAK and then pull it into my GPS and PDA.
  6. I have found alot of things without using a GPS...by my terms and my job's terms it's called "Terrain Association," Using a map and maybe a compass you read the terrain features, contour lines, etc, to bring you to that vicinty. If you incorporate a compass into the equation, and you can identify terrain features on the map and on what you see, you can resection yourself on that map to give you an approximate location, and depending what map your using, you can read the coordinates using UTM, Lat Long, MGRS. There is a sport called Orienteering, where you race at your ability level, pretty fun. But find a dead-on container does make it difficult. Keep racing Eric "NeedtheTShirt"
  7. I thought the two legged animals were dangerous...must be hunting the wrong animal.
  8. Thanks for the reply Eric. One ? re your 60csx. In one of the other forums there have been a few complaints re the compass on this mdl being very eratic and in some cases not even working. They have contacted Garmin but are not satisfied with their replys on having to reboot or something like that. Some have even sent their units back but still get the same problem. What say you Eric? Phil, To be honest..have not used the compass, have a Suunto writst compass, I only use the GPS for getting into a approximate location, and reconfirming with my map where I think I am, I will test out the compass and drop you a line.
  9. I like the energizer lithuium's...use them in my headlamp, and I also have the AA and AAA energizer rechargeables, pricey in the begining for them and the charger...but a very wise long term investment.
  10. aaah the almighty GPS, I have owned all sorts, garmin 12, foretrex, etrex, magellan, and have recently upgraded to the 60csx. My conclusion was compatibility with my laptop, mapping, durability (i.e weather, snow, rain) and I really like the 60csx for it's enhanced antenna. I've recently used it in the jungle, and was very pleased, having picked up 5 satellites, and my buddy was standing 5 feet away and using a etrex vista cx, and had no reception. but it boils down to pocketbook...and like I tell my students, what is the best compass and gps in the world..."the one your most proficient in." best of luck Eric
  11. how rugged are the IQUE and Explorist, and how compatiable with your software are all them, Garmin's are in my opinion very good, I've owned a few different ones, and the 60csx is no doubt to me...so far...King, that special antenna works really good.
  12. Trying not to violate any rules, if anyone has a TB they would like planted in the Far East I am in Okianawa, Japan and would gladly plant it for you. I plan on put in a couple myself here, and taking a couple back to the U.S. later on. Is this okay to do. If so...I will give you my mailing address. Semper Fi Eric US Marines
