  1. I don't look at the McD category, and I find that it doesn't bother me much anymore... I started a group... Starbucks Group Jamie
  2. Lake Placid, NY just got a Starbucks...I'm excited...I like Starbucks...we have a great independent coffee place in Saranac Lake, but it's not the same... Would anyone be interested in working on a group and category for Starbucks locations? Jamie
  3. The Evil Zombie Bog of Despair...and Slugs!!! The 2nd Annual NNYGeo Halloween Event will be held on the night of October 28th (Saturday), in Lake Clear, NY. It's open to everyone, and is a 2-stage multi... The first stage is a night hike that lead you to a container with coordinates/directions/passes/tickets to the actual event, which will have fun and games and food and drinks and fire and geo-chit-chat in vast quantities... We hope that you will be able to attend! Jamie

are there any left...anyone have any to trade? Jamie - NFA
  5. You might not have noticed, but there are millions of webpages that do not have a white background, many of them are great... But I get your drift...I really do...and I get the argument about embedded sound players on the cache-listing pages too...but html-nanny programs (and TPTB) assume that we'll do the bad design thing, and limits our ability to be creative in a number of ways; and, of necessity, they prevent numerous cool cache-listings from coming into being... I had some cool ideas in mind, but the html-nanny crunched a number of them, such that I am preemptively judged and punished for the actions of people who abused the feature in the past... too bad... 6. I'm specifically looking for how to put a backgroundon the cache listing...not in the cache listing form, but through html, so that is is everywhere on the page... Jamie
  7. Howdy, I'm putting together a halloween cache, and wanted to dress up the listing a bit...can someone markwell a site with detail about putting html into geocache listings... Thanks, Jamie
  8. I came across the same thing in the woods up here awhile ago...the powder tastes like flour...
  9. If it ends up being at the beginning of April, I'm in, and would love to attend!!! Jamie - NFA {{{although I likely shouldn't vote, as I live in the Northeast...}}}
  10. Thanks everyone!!! gc forums rock! Jamie
  11. Hi, The other day, somebody posted a link to a website that helps people generate graphics that can be used for making tokens and the like...for free...can somebody post the link again, I looked, but cannot find it. Thanks, Jamie
  12. I've been stopped and questioned twice... The first time, I drove up to a homeland security checkpoint after a full day of caching...my jeep was covered in mud, my car was loaded with electronics and maps, and the guys with gun couldn't have been less interested...they asked me what I was doing, one of them knew about geocaching and waved me through...there was a group of college kids who were hassling the people manning the stop who did get waved over while we were talking, and they may still be there. The second time, I was looking for boundary markers up at the border, and crossed the line into Canada and back a bunch of times in the hinterlands of Northern NY...some body must have called it in, because homeland security was waiting by my jeep as I returned from one of the markers...the woman was a little freaked to see me coming out of the woods, and asked me to remain where I was while she, with my permission, looked through the windows of my jeep...after she evaluated the crap/gear/garbage in my jeep...she thought my explanation was nerdy but believable, and I went on my way... 13. geko 201 sold...still have the geko 101...$50 cheap for a nice backup unit... Jamie
  14. I have 1 each of the Geko 101 and the Geko 201 GPS receivers for sale. They are brand new, although they are not in their boxes. I would like to get $50 for the 101, and $75 for the 201...plus $3 to ship either or both. Please email me at: jsheffield@gmail.com if you want to buy one or both. Thanks, Jamie - NFA
  15. thanks for the markwell...but any news on the social find development process? jamie
  16. A while ago there was a thread discussing a possible site enhancement allowing cachers to "log" other cachers that they meet at events or on the trail...has anything come of that, or has it gone away? Jamie
  17. My record for most found is 13... my record for most found with my 4 year old son is 6... my record for most found on a work-day is 2 (record for most found on a work day when I was playing hookey is 5)... my record for most found on a day when I tipped a canoe over in a snowstorm and later got lost and hiked 15-20 miles up and down mountains in the high peaks wilderness is 2... My record for most caches found on a perfect day to drink umbrella drinks and swim occasionally in a perfect-blue sea by a snow white beach in Anguilla is 1... I enjoyed all of them... Jamie - NFA
  18. I always mark a waypoint at my car before heading out, always bring a flashlight, and always have a bug-out bearing in mind (a compass bearing along which I could travel using my compass, if the GPS breaks, that would without fail bring me to a road or powerline)... Jamie - NFA
  19. With the right time, funds, and lack of family/work commitments we would love to do a multi like yours. We wholeheartedly agree that as long as there are people who can do it there's no reason not to have them on here, if you can't do it, just ignore or dream from your armchair. It's been done in as little as a weekend, although 3-5 days probably makes more sense...it takes you to some of my favorite hidden spots in the Adirondacks...if you ever get a chance, come on up and try your luck with The Adirondack Murder Mystery...I love hearing the stories after people finish the thing... Jamie - NFA
  20. I'm glad that your story had a happy-ish ending, but I bet you won't ever go into the woods without a flashlight again...mine is always attached to my caching bag, no matter what...
  21. I have a 21 stage multi that requires driving all over my area of the Adks, hiking about 20 miles, bush-whacking a couple of mountains, paddling and portages, and a few night-only stages...I think that people do it because it's a bit of a pain... People who don't want the hassle should, and do, just ignore this one... Jamie - NFA
  22. I was leery of it at first, and wish that virtual caches hadn't gone the way of the Dodo (although I see the issues with them, I enjoy them and would like them to still be a part of geocaching), but I find that I like Waymarking... I created and manage a couple of categories...Free Campsites and Canoe & Kayak Trips... I enjoy monitoring and adding to a couple of categories...Bloggers and Public Playgrounds and Classic BBQ & Sandwich Joints... Categories I'm not into don't even smudge my radar screen, and it just seems like a fun and cool tech-weenie way of sharing information and building community...nothing noteworthy or insightful to point out here, just a warm and fuzzy Sunday morning thought... I'd love to read about your positive experiences with Waymarking, and about the categories that you have created and contribute to... Thanks, Jamie - NFA
  23. If it turns out to be true, this is a big mistake, as well as being a seeming reversal of the stated goals of gc.com in getting rid of container-less caches... I'd like virts and web-cams back too please... Jamie - NFA
