  1. Tacky? Really? absolutely!! i find it rather anoying when i open a cache and find a huge ziplock bag with some tb and a huge laminated card attached. and yes its tacky!! as far as im concerned ALL bugs/tb's missions are to travel, either in local caches or elsewhere, but travel. so grab what ya want, take it home and read up on it.
  2. bummer, i work friday nights untill after 11pm. oh and escondido is far away from el cajon.
  3. yes, i was looking for a cache with my 2 boys as i usually do, and on the way up the trail saw someone walking down with a gps, we started talking and such, he was a geocacher, and while we were talking my oldest son nailed my youngest son in the head with a rock!! blood everywhere, screaming kid and the whole works.. luckily the other cacher i was with had a first aid kit close at hand, mine was rather bare (just a few bandaids, i have since restocked) and we cleaned him up, i took him to the hospital and after 4 hours! he needed 2 stiches. the cache is called My Happy Day, it wasnt real happy for my youngest son. we did however go back after the hospital visit and score the cache... My Happy Day Cache My log Entry Log Entry of other cacher.
  4. i dont know about a "program" for phones to list caches, but theres a cool wap site for data capable phones you can look them up and such... rtr.ca/geo its a lifesaver for me!! also makes looking up travelbug info while at a cachhe instead of getting one with no info on it..
  5. u currently have 18 dogtags and 2 geocoins out there.... all have been active within the last month, so far so good. 7 have moved within the last week...
  6. i place stash notes in mine and also put the website address on the container somewhere usually.
  7. I have to agree that the original poster was being kinda ridiculous for getting mad about not being able to post a cache less than 500 feet away, but Mopar, you really are an a**! gc.com does have some stupid rules, and i find alot of the moderators to be just plain jerks. but i like the sport and i like the site in general.. in closing i think this topic needs to be locked/closed.
  8. thanks for the update! looking forward to them.
  9. darn!! i also coulda used that coupon! i even looked for coupons on dealcoupon.com before i ordered and found none yesterday.. mine says it will be delivered on the 10th, looking forward to it.. sooo, anyone wana buy a etrex Legend?
  10. so....... did the order get placed? how long does the minting take and when should we expect delivery...?
  11. i personally have 3 usa geocoins traveling around, i think they are really cool! when i find a coin in a cache i love it, or if i see a coin is in a cache i will go out of my way to visit that cache. i also have 7 geocachetreasure.com joy of geocaching coins i attached dog tags to traveling around, people seem to like them and with a hole drille din the coin and a tag attached i think they dont seem as collectible so people move them. my 2 usa geocoins once gold and one silver are in plastic coin capsules, so im hoping they dont get "collected", i have 1 more silver toned one i havent registered or released yet, saving that one for a special cache. and i also have a antique usa geocoin i personally carry with me everywhere whether im caching or not, was in a capsule, but i dropped it and it broke, so now its just bare coin, i log it into and out of all the caches i visit to just log mileage a keep track of where ive been. i really love geocaching since my first cache and travel bugs just enhance the fun of the game for me, thats why i have i think 17 tags out there now and 2 geocoins, and 8 more tags on my desk not made into anything yet..
  12. I dont see a problem with it at all. if the container is clearly marked which its suppose to be then if its found there should not be an issue, at most the police may ask it to be removed.. we have a similar cache a few blocks from me that is near our city's local jail/courthouse thats been pretty active for a while. GCHYJ7 plus, who ever sees a cop at a police station?? all the stations ive ever been past you dont see anyone in sight, they are all out patroling. (yes im sure theres staff inside, but...)
  13. I'm a HAM Radio Operator and i originally bought mine for APRS. which is basiclaly a system where your transmitting your position over the radio and people can map your position and see where you are.. heres an example...Where Am I? and while looking up info on gps' and such found a map page that said find geocaches near here. which peaked my curosity and here i am..
  14. i dont know, like someone esle said i cant see spending as much on a flashlight as a cheap gps!! not for caching that is, maybe if you are cop/security/paramedic and such i could see it, but not for caching.. i have several 2 AA mini mags i use alot, and when im night caching, i like to carryt my 6 D cell maglight. nice and bright and has some nice weight to it in case you need to club someone! not that id ever want to have to do that, but never know what you may come up against night caching in odd places..
  15. Ne too! i dont want extra crap hanging from my TB's or them put in bags!! that totally annoys me! if i had wanted that i would have done so to begin with. i want them the way they are so they travel, when you add big tags and bags they are bigger and bulkier and means they will travel less!!!! personally i rarely ever pick up a bug unless it will fit in a micro, because i dont regularly hunt for amo boxes or big caches. thats my 2 cents.
  16. I like it! i too collect shot glases, although i have not bought any in a while i usually get them from any place i travel, states, zoo/amusement parks etc... i saw one in a cache i did today, but didnt grab it, seemed pretty solid.
  17. maybe this weekend at the picnic more people who havent already ordered some will.
  18. good time to release? how about in october when hockey season starts again!
  19. awesome! i have unlimited gprs/data so this will be great in the field!
  20. I would have to agree, the goal of a bug or coin is to travel. they should not be taken out oif circulation for more than a month. I could only understand this if its an unusually large item attached to a tag. however being the owner of Johnathon's geocoin mentioned above, i would like to see it move on its way, but i can be patient. maybe this person is on vacation and unable to log it for now.
  21. awesome bug idea! i love hockey myself also. however we have no NHL arenas here in San Diego, so i could only take it to an ECHL game and see the San Diego Gulls.
  22. I would shoot video beheading the bug(cutting the tag off) and then burning it in a ritualistic manner and posting a link to it here so we all can see. I would say thats pretty rude, if it was one of my bugs and i didnt want it there i would just ask the person who dropped it there to get it and place it in another cache, or write a note on the cache listing asking for it to be retrieved.
  23. how about this one It's Alive
  24. hey thats one of my caches! good i hate dogs!, it doesnt say anything abiout cats does it? i'll see you all there.
  25. there was a link to it in another thread and i wasnt around originally to add my 2 cents.
