  1. As has been said by many in response to the questions asked by the OP I think that from the statement made that this is a bad place for a cache. I have 3 hides in the local area on my ignore list that fit close to this caches description as my GPSr was pointing me toward the playground equipment and I never found a time in 4 or 5 tries that there were no families in the area, having looked in the early morning hours and late evening into dark times. I then decided that I would no longer search for these. My reasoning behind this is my appearance and the way society has gone today. I am a middle aged man with a full "Santa" beard and hair that is down to the bottom of my shoulder blades (see my profile I have a picture of me there.) One of the first thoughts that comes to many peoples minds when talking to them later is "darn hippy" or "greasy biker." I despise those that think that way, but many do. There has been way to much abuse of children by adults and an adult male alone in an area where children play raises suspicion. I have no problem with police questioning me, but in the area of child abuse todays society has an attitude of guilty till proven innocent and I want no part of it being brought on me when enjoying my sport. I am ready when out caching as I have some of the fliers from Geocacher U that I am willing to provide to any one who asks about what I am doing when out hunting caches alone, which is most of the time. I have heard back from some muggles that I had given the fliers to when out caching while on a business trip and am not sure if they ever became cachers, but I hope so. So my bottom line is that unless this would be a fairly quick cache find without having children playing I would try a few times to find the playground are empty, but if it looked like I have to go out of my way to do so it would go into my ignore list.
  2. And with these attitudes we will have to make some marks in the BAD kids column
  3. I look at the idea if I was where my GPSr told me it was and I searched I log the DNF. If I was on the way but did not actually search I will write a note. Some examples: DNF: My DNF Yes I did cuss the cache owner as he is known as one of the EVIL hiders in the area. note: my note on a hunt
  4. Clyde has added some wonderful macro capabilities to GSAK. On his site there is a macro to run that will run the cachemate pdb into a gpx pull the found log and go to the GC.com page to log the find. I have not yet had the time to play and get this working for me, but am looking forward to the automationof logging my finds.
  5. Clyde, I am wondering if there can be another feature added to give capability to do the getmail through a proxy. Doing all the other functions which utilize a browser for access work fine as the browser has the proxy info however, the getmail fails when the proxy is there on the work system. Thanks again for the wonderful program and all the awesome updates!!!!
  6. This is a big question that I have. If the contact was made to GC.com or not or was it other poor attempts to contact the cache owners. I can see this flowing out to other areas of the country and I would hate to see my home state (although i've moved this is still home) become one to stop many of the cache types that I have enjoyed.
  7. Looking for just about anything. I have enjoyed hikes and good nano/micros hides. Not sure of the vehicle that I will have access to and when during the day I will be going. Hope to get the SIL and family especially the Niece out with me as she seemed to enjoy the couple we did last summer and hope to get her on some this coming summer when she is out visiting. Since it will be a one day thing it can't the running to much through the beautiful countryside out there however, I do look forward to doing some of the hikes/drives in the area as we get a chance to spend some time there on another trip.
  8. I will be driving my Father-In-Law up to Rapid next week and should have a day where I can do some caching. Am looking for any recomendations on Must caches in the area. I am somewhat familiar with the area and should have access to a vehicle while there from my SIL. Would also love to meet any cachers if possible. I am heading out from Winter Haven, FL on Sunday and expect a 4 day trip, so should be there on Wed and I fly out on Fri. Looking forward to the feedback.
  9. Mine is a contraction of one that I got way back when from my Brothers girlfriend when she looked in my room and said it looked like a tornado had swept through. I replied no just a small whirlwind that dropped everything in the place they stayed. I started using it as my CB handle and online found having it fully spelled out to normally being taken so I shortened to the current wrlwnd and use it almost exclusively online. wrlwnd

    Quote

Here's what works for me. on the code buttons select guided mode. click the quote button nd a box comes up with a place to paste the text. Paste thge text click OK and you get the text quoted in the box. I haven't yet figured out how others put the name and date/time on the quote line yet, but am learning slowly. As was pointed out to me earlier today in a PM about a post I tried html and that doesn't work. You ned to use UBB code. wrlwnd

    A Bug Idea

Here is a bug out there that u can see that has a different twist on the idea. I would move yours and would be happy to help this one with its goal. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=15877
  14. I have taken my wife and a niece(11) that visits during the summers. and those 2 plus my brother in law, his wife their son(15) and 2 nephews(5 and 7)(my sisters). The wife talks about it to a lot of family, but isn't real enthused, the niece thought it was ok the BIL and family enjoyed and am waiting to hear that they are doing more. The biggest fun was the 2 nephews on the caches we did and watching their eyes as they looked at all the swag and had to trade. waiting to see if any of them go with again as the niece is back home in SD the nephews are back home in SC the BIL and family are back in the DC area and I am here in the triangle area of NC.
  15. I have used mine on several airlines as I also use mine when on my out of town work trips to find my way around hotel, hospital, restaurants etc. I have had several flight attendants ask me what it was and when answered they never said any more. The comment about initializing at destination is true it does take less time. My condolences also on the loss of a family member.
  16. The way I look at it is this using a situation that I had: I looked for a micro near work and didn't find it. I looked 3 different times over a 2 week period. I looked back at the hint to check if I was correct and had looked at where it was. I saw that the cache had gone missing and had been replaced. I went back for a fourth time and the owner was doing a maintenance check and as he was leaving he told me it was there and in it's place. I found it mostly by the hint, but also by where he had stood while checking the cache, and looked at the place I had looked at before and found it. Looking back on it now I should have logged the DNF and notes for the time period i tried to find it to try to help the owner note the problem, which he did by the DNF's of others. Now with the situation involved here I don't think I would claim a find as I did not find the cache, but if it was replaced and I went back and found it i would then log the find. If it get archived I would look at the experience of the hunt and enjoy that in itself.
  17. As a relative noob here, I think that on the Geocoin that I grabbed and did just that it ws to help with the mission of the bug see Spy Geo Coin 2. unfortunatly the cacher who grabbed it after has not dropped it since. I think for one that only wants to travel this is good, but if there is a specific destination in mind I would only move it in the direction it is wanted. wrlwnd
  18. Yes. and brought out some interesting ideas in the story line. Looking forward to #8 this fall. wrlwnd
