  1. My Jeep's not been stuck either, although some people will tell you that means I'm just not trying hard enough - and they're right! So here's an obligatory pic of my baby when it's not covered with mud or dust for a change: There's been a few times when I've been out looking for a cache in my car (which has no ground clearance and I try very hard to keep it in nice condition) and suddenly I hit a dirt road or something and think "dadgum, wish I had brought the Jeep..." - Dave '98 Sahara with 4.5" RE Superflex lift, etc. (offroad fun) '97 BMW M3 (onroad fun)
  2. Check shipping prices too, some places charge a lot more than others.
  3. There's an additional "cost" that makes a much bigger difference to me: 50% longer battery life on the units without compass/barometer. Financially I'd get the 60cs over the 60c but battery life is important to me in the field.
  4. Thanks very much for the pointers. I've actually been to both of those sites but completely missed the fact that Hike America is in Redwood City. Doh! That's one more lead, but ideally I'd like to find a staff that was multiple colors and/or carved... So It would be great to find a place that had some sort of selection, something like these:
  5. I'm looking to buy a wood hiking staff, something nice-looking and sturdy to have when I'm out hiking and caching. REI has all kinds of aluminum/collapsible/etc. ones but I'm looking for a solid wood one. I'd prefer to buy one locally so I could examine the height, diameter, and so on. I know of a few seasonal places where you can get one but those are months away. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm in San Jose. TIA, Dave
  6. You could try to contact someone at www.openspace.org, that's their website. Good luck, they have a reputation for being very bureacratic in some circles, don't know how they are with geocaching... Maybe call it a "scent article" and say it's for CARDA training.... Ha ha, just kidding...
  7. That's a great page... Unique little items related to geocaching are my favorite trade items by far.
  8. Hey all, I'm a newbie here but thought I'd chime in since I have a lifted TJ. It actually came in really handy today, in an urban setting of all places. The cache was very exposed so I parked my Jeep in front of where I suspected the cache was and used it to block the view of prying eyes. My other car (an M3) is my preferred on-road ride, and it's lower-profile, but somehow geocaching just seems more appropriate in a Jeep... - Dave
