  1. I will be considering selling mine for $250
  2. I dont have a camera at all. Maybe I will get one of the camera cell phones next time I need to replace.
  3. I have the entire MD state loaded in my vista c with about half of the memory to spare. (I used mapsouce topo)... actually alot of WV and VA is covered too.
  4. I dont have pics of trade yet. All items from original purchase included in trade. (value about $350+)
  5. I use topo maps in my vista C. As far as I remember the choice of software is called city select for auto routing. The base map included in the vista C has worked well for me for routing. It is nice to be able to look up points of interest, etc included in the topo software.
  6. I have another question related to the zire 72. Would it be possible to connect this handheld with a Garmin Vista C? Would I then be able to add gps info to pictures that I was taking with the camera?
  7. I have a garmin gpsmap76s available. I need a little time to replace this unit. If you need the unit right away I guess I could send it more quickly though. At your request I could even load some mapsource topo for you. Price? $ 250
  8. I use the Garmin gps map76s but am thinking of "downgrading" to this geko for portability. Not sure if Ill keep the 76s as spare or "upgrade" it.
  9. I took a look at the quest specifications (I dont have one) ... it sounds like it may be worth a try. The lithium battery should keep charged if you can leave it connected to the solar. If you try it would be good to start with a fully charged battery at first>then you could monitor the battery situation and recharge with your supplied charger if needed. Please let us know if your idea works.
  10. Garmin has a program (CD) for a trip and waypoint manager that does not have maps. Would not having the maps make it easier or more simple to use? Has anyone used this? If so, have you found this to be helpful and/or easy to use? Thanks.
  11. Im glad I have now heard about this but I have to agree with you about the wifi. What sense did it make to build a unit that does not have wifi? In my opinion this unit would offer no advantage to a handheld gps. If the unit had wifi we could use it from our local coffee shop etc. to get some waypoints in that area. Then with the real time saved we could actually GO CACHING!
  12. Personally, I can't stand nextel at all ! I use one at work only as required by my employer. I have found that their service is unreliable and would never even DREAM of using something that has an unreliable reputation for navigation.
  13. I have found that I like to use gps for true north readings. I leave my compass turned off unless I need it. When I do turn my compass on (manually) ,it is important to remember that this is a MAGNETTIC reading. Using a compass is a good skill to have. I recommend occasional practice with them. At least I know that U or I can walk in a straight line using one even if our gps craps out for some reason!
  14. Wouldn't a saw have been more effective? No a tree would grow back ...not be actually killed
  15. ]It's a good idea to "trade up", leaving the cache filled with at least as good, or better items, than you . TeamSK The only cache I have placed was started with a single pez dispenser! Im still looking for someone to trade it up. I think logging is more fun anyway...the swag is mainly intended for kids.
  16. I can count myself in this group too. I use maps continuosly to a point of having most of the ones I need memorized! I still like to look at them alot.
  17. Hmmm... now I thought that's what lithium batteries were best for. Alkalines? I think not. A flashlight?!! 3 years!!!! go with lithium
  18. Megamid +'s 1) no floor (saves weight and I hate sleeping in a bathtub) ! 2)10 feet by 10 feet (huge) 3)can be suspended to avoid using the pole 4)EASY to set up (with or without pole)
  19. Sounds like you may be in some rough terrain sometimes... so I just thought I should say it would be a map/compass backup in case of cold or dead batteries.
  20. Not to be morbid here... but if you are out of cell phone range it is also a good idea to be able to use map/compass if batteries run out. The intro screen on my unit (and I assume others) disclaims total reliability.
