  1. Wow. Have them go to ITIL training? Seriously? Wow. While we're at it, let's put the extreme SOX lockdown on everything(cache containers cost money, right? So anything that touches a cache needs to adhere to SOX). Then we'll never get any site changes, and I'll never get to use DeLorme's Cache Register.
  2. Any chance that one of the "many infrastructure tweaks" could be to add support for DeLorme's Cache Register?
  3. I wonder if I could pick up their current TBs cheap in bankruptcy court. In exchange for my lifetime powertrain warranty, I would like three transmissions, two of each of the other 800+ parts covered by the warranty(including engine), and ownership rights to all Jeep TBs.
  4. $269 for a PN-40 is a great price. I passed on the PN-20, a $160 60csx, and went for a $320 PN-40 back in January. I'm still glad I went with the PN-40. I don't really use the altimeter and the magnetic compass is often more trouble than it's worth, so if the PN-30 had been available and the price had been right, I may have gone with it.
  5. Well, here's your thread, sir. Have fun playing YOUR game. That's crazy. You would think the owner would enjoy seeing DNFs since that's a testament to how hard it is to find. Then they could post a note saying they've checked and it's still there so others would know. I saw a cache listing recently for a cache that has never been found. The owner posted a note that said something like "I checked on the cache on 10/17, 10/24, 10/31, 11/7... and it's still there."
  6. After looking at the cache page, it sounds like an awesome place. Too bad it's over 3800 miles away from me. I see the OP's log is gone again. My advice would be to log something like "Thanks for the hide. Note to other seekers: be sure to read the beginning of the description about how to approach this one. Being hit in the head with a shovel might hurt."
  7. Thanks to this thread I now know what the Great Vandalia Dragon is. It showed up in a PQ along my route to St. Louis last week. I'll have to go after that one next time. My only exposure to Vandalia is the Wal Mart and maybe one other place with a gas station, so I was expecting it to be a Chinese restaurant or something.
  8. Sounds like one of the curses of having an old PQ. Until this morning most of the caches on my PN-40 came from a PQ I ran 2 months ago. So while I had the full description and logs... they were two months old. There are some archived or disabled caches in my area I'd still see as good to go. I'm sure that's a common scenario.
  9. I almost didn't attempt that one because I couldn't find a good place to park. I ended up parking off the side of the road a ways from it and hiking to it because I thought the neighbor might be an a-hole. It's funny that I thought that before seeing this post.
  10. I've always got a Fenix E01 on my keychain. Makes for a good hidey hole light.
  11. There's no rules against taking a trackable without leaving one. People are encouraged to take them and move them along. I do understand the draw, when I started caching I picked caches based on if they contained trackable items or not. After visiting a couple of caches that no longer had the listed trackables, I gave up that practice.
  12. Oooh, GSAK can export to TomTom? I need to check that out. I'd like to use my TomTom for road navigating to caches because my handheld sometimes gets creative and does things like tell me to turn down a road that isn't there or to turn the wrong way on a One Way street. Although, my TomTom has sent me on creative routes before as well. One time it had me exit a highway, take a nice scenic loop around back to the same highway, and then it told me to head back the direction I came. As soon as I got to the point where it had first told me to leave the highway, it said "You have reached your destination". Say what?
  13. If you're happy with it, stick with it. A friend of mine had a PN-20, and the screen refresh seemed slow, satellite aquisition seemed slow, and it seemed to have some accuracy issues. I ended up buying a PN-40. After a couple of times caching with it, my friend sold his PN-20 and bought a PN-40 too. The 2.5 firmware that adds all the neat geocaching features is only available for the PN-40(so far).
  14. I used a Tom Tom One 125 for my first two solo finds. I wrote the coordinates down and used the Where Am I? feature to give current coords. The first cache was near the start of a trail, and it did a great job. The second was off a trail in a woods a bit, and it wasn't as accurate with that. After that I bought a DeLorme PN-40, being able to go paperless rocks. You might want to look into it or the PN-20. They come with three DVDs worth of maps that cover the US.
  15. I wish I would have ran across a wire nut that would work to splice two 10 gauge wires together. That would have saved me from having to buy a whole package of them when I just needed one. Hey, that gives me an idea... I could use the rest as trade items for caches.
  16. Most are well known fact. In the automotive industry, there are a few carmakers that require their suppliers to not use I or O in traceability serial numbers to not confuse them with 1 and 0. I know of one that doesn't allow U. I've made the mistake of seeing an S as a 5 before in some fonts.
  17. Weatherproof doesn't necessarily mean waterproof Just because a creek doesn't look deep doesn't mean it isn't deep
  18. I was in Cub Scouts. We didn't have a Webelos troop to go into, and I didn't want to skip to Boy Scouts, so I didn't go any further.
  19. If you'd be willing to rent me a condo there, I'd be happy to maintain it for you. I went there on vacation last summer. What a beautiful place. Good luck.
  20. I have a feeling I'll end up with a Premium Membership once my PN-40 comes in.
  21. Is there a way to search for the locations of a specific series of Geocoins? For example, I can use the "Search for a Trackable Item by Name" and put in eartha to find records for all of the DeLorme Eartha coins, but I would then have to click on the cache name for each record to find where they are? Is there a way to search for them by zip code to see where the nearest one in the series is, or to pull up a Google Map that shows their locations? Is this something I'd be able to do if I get a Premium Membership? Thanks.
  22. Since all of my caching has been in the winter so far, I always have my coat with me. I carry a small Cross Ion pen in my coat pocket, so I've been using that a lot. I'm not sure what I'll do once the weather gets warm.
