  1. Being new to the game, we have no FTFs. Personally, I don't see any reason to rush out and get one. We get enough time-pressure in our jobs, so any hobby we partake in will not include pressure that we do something on someone else's timing. If we want to sleep in late on saturday and then take a drive and stroll, that's what we do. Just because someone gets up earlier or stays up later doesn't, in my book, mean they are better than we are- they just have different priorities in life. That being said, I understand others have a different perspective on the idea and I will be the last person to criticize them. If some view it as a competition to be won or lost based on the number of FTFs they log, more power to them- they're playing a differnt game than we are. I think the only FTF that would have any value to me is a cache that already has multiple DNFs logged.
  2. This is where I think caching will be in a few years. And when the finders take a token from the owner, they leave a token in return- for the cache owner. The trade should be between the owner and the finder. The exceptions: 1. travel bugs and such 2. kids trading toys When somebody takes the time to make a cache, I'd like to be able to leave them a token of my appreciation. I'd also like to be able to take a memento specific to that cache.
  3. Thanks for the lesson. Being brand new to the game I've been to a couple sites where I couldn't find the cache. One of them was listed as being difficult and devious, so it didn't suprise me that I couldn't find it- especially because the keen-eyed part of our team wasn't with me. I didn't even expect to find it when I went there, was mainly scouting around and checking out the terrain. When I left, I didn't consider the hunt over. In my mind we're still looking- the first place we're going this weekend is to find it. So I didn't log it as DNF. After reading this thread, though, I looks like I should have logged it as a DNF. I thought that was only after you've given up looking for it. Sorry.
  4. Reading another thread about deer stands and such got me to thinking. Deer are not in season so we don't need to think about deer hunters for awhile. But turkey season is getting close. Turkey hunters don't have to wear orange in some states and they camo up pretty good. You may not see them until you're practically on top of them. Anytime hunters may be in the field, it is a good idea to wear orange so they can see you.
  5. I don't know about other states, but here in Indiana we have urban hunting zones where a limited amount of bow hunting is allowed in or near certain cities. The number of areas are limited and are only approved when there are too many deer for the area to safely support. I've never seen a city park used, but if the deer are creating a danger to traffic flow then I wouldn't be suprised if there is some type of limited harvest in the area. My guess is the beer bottles aren't from the same people who erected the tree stands but instead from some local kids.
  6. Being brand new to this game (first weekend) and finding a few caches, all full of junk, it occured to the missus and me that it would be really cool to have something worth collecting. Maybe an inexpensive pin or button or something that uniquely identifies the players. When a player visits a cache they would exchange pins with the cache owner. The cache owner would get something they could display from each visitor, while the visitors would also get something they could display as a memento of a succesful find. I mean, what value does an old golfball or a computer chip or hair clip have? Imagine after playing the game for awhile that you'd have a collection of pins, one for each find? I know it would cost a little money, but I'm sure there are many people who would like to share something that has a little meaning.
