  1. Since the accused perpetrator is a military member, he will no doubt be more than embarrassed. The Military in general frowns on their members causing bad PR. --JETSchmidt
  2. Concerning PQ's, I suspect that the limit on PQ's has less to do with GPSr capabilities, and more to do with database performance. With nearly a million active caches and however many premium members querying that database (not just a text DB, but one with photos, etc, etc), can you imagine the complaints ("I checked my PQ to run on monday and didn't get it until Tuesday, what gives?!? ") if the queries were expanded very much? Is 500 cache listings REALLY that much of a limitation ? Did someone say they had to delete PQ's? You can have 40. You can only RUN five a day. With 5 queries, 500 caches a query, that's a potential 2500 cache listings A DAY. I guess one thing I would like to see is the ability to Query for ARCHIVED caches in an area. Yesterday I spent a lunch hour looking for an archived cache. Yea, I know, why didn't I check the listing before I left for lunch? Dunno, I was on the road when I looked at the GPSr, and there was the icon, checked my palm for the listing, it was there, read the discription, went searching. When I went to post my DNF, I the cache was archived. Silly me. Last night I spent about a half hour updating my own GSAK database, deleting archived caches, and deleting them off of my GPSr. Personally, I think my 8 cents a day for MEMBERSHIP is going a long way toward this hobby/sport/game/obsession. Just my 2 cents (about 6 hours ) --JETSchmidt
  3. Don't know if this is related to the update, but until a couple of days ago, I could pull up the geocaching maps page on my computer at work, now I no longer can. I get the map, the icons for some of the caches (others are blank, with no symbol, but when clicked still bring up the cache listing), but no map behind the cache icons. Terry(JETSchmidt)

  5. I just thought I'd chime in on this thread. My Palm m515 runs CacheMate wonderfully, with a cable attached to my eTrex. If Wherigo comes to Palm OS, my area is going to see a bunch of Wherigo's published by yours truely. I've published one so far, and have sort of "played" the other two in this area (I cheated , using the emulator to "walk through" the cartriges, then made a guess on the coordinates of the final cache, which turned out to be close enough to find the container ). I've got one that I'm cooking up right now, but I need a player for my Palm OS in order to really test the cartrige when it's done. Looking forward to Playing more Wherigo's.
  6. I'll second that. I like my palm. It works great with cachemate and I also have other GPSr following apps on it for soaring.
  7. I had a travel bug in one of my caches when it was muggled. On the cache listing, I clicked the travel bug, and on the travel bug page, there is a "mark bug missing" link. When I did that, the bug was removed from the cache's inventory. JETSchmidt
  8. This problem should be related to the user's account. Just because you can download a cartridge does not mean the problem is fixed. No word from Groundspeak yet (I asked as a favor to be notified when this is fixed). All I can do is nudge the issue; I have no power to push it. Hi There! Just to add to this issue, I also cannot download GC1PJBB, A Nebraskacache Mystery. I've emailed Wherigo, they've responded requesting more information (I didn't include the cache code). I'll let you know what happens.
  9. False--I don't hate to admit it. I do use the hints, when I can remember them, but sometimes I go "blind-caching," only the name on the gps, no clue as to what it is. That's when it's the best! True or False - The next cacher to post has had to build a make-shift ladder out of items in their vehicle to get a cache more than 8 feet off of the ground (and worried that then neighbors were calling the cops!)
  10. I like to read all of the logs on my very few caches. On one of them, they noted "thought it was the peanut can and was about to leave, but decided to open the can and look inside..." Do many people do that? Ignore caches if they don't feel they are "quality"? If they do, they're going to miss some of my future caches, because I'm enjoying the reaction to my decoy (which is what the "peanut can" was), and intend to hide some more! I have only been contacted once about a log that I posted. The owner of the cache was "Over There" on deployment (and caching in the desert, btw) and read my post and laughed out loud, waking his bunk-mate. It made my day to receive that email.
  11. My own favorite find are small, plastic ninjas or army men. I also like pins or coins that are unique and rubber balls that have faces on them (smiley faces, etc). I like to leave toy airplanes, key chains, evil micros, and picture frames. Metal toy airplanes are becoming my signature. My kid likes any toy that he finds. Sometimes he leaves them after checking them out. I've made him choose what to leave when he takes a toy, so he has to leave something "equal or better." It's our only rule for swag.
  12. This last February, shortly after I started Geocaching, I started looking for Caches during lunch. I thought it might be a good way to lose some weight. I was looking for a multi-cache called The Mummy. it was noted for having a 3.5 terrain, and being a 2.5 difficulty. The first day that I looked the weather was warmer than normal, so the ground was soft and slippery. I found the first two parts of the cache, but ran out of time for the final, so I returned two days later for it. The weather was much colder, the ground frozen. I found the cache after a short search, then signed the log, did some trading and then stepped back to take a picture. There was nothing for my foot to land on. I stepped back off of the small cliff that was at the hide site. The hint for the third stage of the hide read "Beware the Plunge" My wife loves to tell about my find of nicks hide. The hint was "If you're short, bring a friend for a boost" or some such comment. By short, they must have meant under nine feet tall, because the hiding spot was two things. 1) the ONLY place it could be 2) WAY out of reach for anyone not wearing stilts. Well, I didn't have stilts in my Jeep, but I did have something that I could use to boost my shortness to the hide. I had several 2X8 boards, a couple of shelves, and several cans of tomatoe juice. Making several trips to my Jeep, I built myself a makeshift platform and retrieved the cache. I've since put a small step in my Jeep in case any more of these "tall" hides cross my path. Here's an image of my "ladder" (if I can figure out how to post it)
