  1. The original poster has said he didn’t want to run Windows, though. So Boot Camp, VMWare, and Parallels are out. Crossover might be a possibility, it doesn’t require Windows to run Windows programs. I haven’t tried it, as I use Parallels.
  2. Because they have practically no querying capabilities. Even the simplest of queries such as list all the caches north of my location within 5 miles can't be done on either Geojournal or MacCaching and sent to a GPSr. They have very limited utility. I finally found an old copy of Windows 2000 in a box around the house and installed it on my MacBook and use GSAK for finding and sending stuff to the eTrex. BTW, I own a copy of MacCaching, and have used the demo of Geojournal.
  3. Doesn't Garmin's Road Trip for the Mac have the functionality of Map Source for Windows? MacCaching on the Mac can sort and send waypoints to your Garmin handheld and the Palm. It's a very barebones program, though. I used both these alternatives for a while, so I can attest that they do work in a limited sort of way.. picky mode/ And Mac isn't capitalized when referring to the Mac computer. /picky mode off
  4. My goal this year was to have fun and not get killed doing it. Achieved both so far. But there's still a month to go!
  5. No. If I were going for that cache, I'd appreciate the heads up. I went for one recently where a previous log mentioned that a scorpion had taken up residence in the hole where the container was. The little devil was still there, and I was glad I'd come equipped with tongs.
  6. There's a nice little iPhone/iPod Touch app called Geocaching Toolkit that does circle intersections and much more. I’ve used it to solve quite a few puzzle caches.
  7. I went over to Home Depot (or maybe it was Lowe's) and bought a 1.125" diameter wooden dowel about 6 feet long and took it home, sanded it, cut a bit off one end and sprayed it with lacquer. Then I wound some leather trips near one end and tacked them, drilled a hole close to that end, and put a 2 foot piece of nylon rope through it as a lanyard. I now have a nice hiking stick, and the entire thing cost something like $10 and is quite serviceable.
  8. And there is GCG822 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...0e-4488a098105d
  9. Yeah, this caught me by surprise until I figured it out. You have to go to search by name to find things farther then the 50 that show in 'nearest.'
  10. What software are you using and are you using Garmin protocol or GPX files?
  11. I have no idea what that means. What's a TOTT?
  12. I take pictures of every cache I find (except LPCs). I wouldn't think of posting a picture that would show the location of a cache, or a picture of a unique cache. I just don't want to spoil it for anyone else just so I can show what a great photographer I am.
  13. I have a fanny pack and backpack duo also. I pick which is suitable for the operation and go.
  14. I don't mind caching in a light rain, but here in Texas it has been 100F-106F for the last two months every day, and I won’t go on a long hike to a location, I stick to things I can get to within a few minutes. I hope the temperature moderates around about Oct, so I can start back on long hikes. Just about the only thing that affects my eTrex is very heavy tree cover.
  15. A few months ago my Volvo was totaled on the way to a cache when a lady made an illegal turn right in front of me. Minor injuries. Two months later, I slipped on some leaves and ended up with part of a tree stump through my calf (it took 19 stitches). Oh. yeah, and I fell in January and broke my camera, bent my glasses and abraded my wrist. I don't go on steep trails alone anymore. Or maybe I need a keeper.
  16. A nuisance of muggles? An interference of muggles?
  17. Doesn’t having your dog find the cache take all the fun out of it?
  18. I use GeoSphere, also. The only problem I've had with it involved downloading the GPX files from my iDisk. I'm now thinking that the fie names are case-sensitive. If I type the filenames in GeoSphere in all lower case and the file name on the iDisk is upper and lower, the app just hangs until I quit and restart.
  19. I got this several months ago. I was on my way to a cache site when a young lady hit me and totalled my 1997 Volvo, so I looked for something that got better mileage and ended up with this. It's a blast to drive.
  20. Yeah, but that doesn't do much good if you aren't connected to WiFi, which is why I do the capture routine. Mike jmd65
