  1. I am very sorry about letting this event slide but life got in the way. I will try and set something up for August. I have some time off over the summer (10 weeks ) Stay tuned. John
  2. I just looked at my profile and relized that I am just two months away from two years in the game. I think I need a life. Baston
  3. I have not had problems with my user name but I am missing logs and finds from caches I have done already. Has anyone seen this yet? Baston (I think)
  4. Has anyone noticed that caches that you have found are disappearing? I have about 7 caches that I have found, now listed as me never having found them. And my cache that I placed a couple of weeks ago was made unavailable. What gives??? I have email the system admin but I have not heard back yet.

    Scout Cachers!

I am looking forward to having my scouts hunt the caches. We had thought of one near snorkle island. Maybe 12 or 15 feet down.
  6. It has been a bad start to the New Year for me. I will be posting the details of the meeting in the next day or two. So please watch this space for information on the SOG Geofunday. John
  7. When: Sat., Jan. 11, 2003 Where: Mayfield S.S., 5000 Mayfield Road, Brampton. Intersection of Mayfield Road and Bramalea Road. Time: 10:00am till Noon (That way the afternoon is free for caching.) This will be a planning meeting for a Geo Conference in the summer of 2003. Please let me know if you plan on being there. Thanks John rothwelj@peelsb.com Happy Holidays everyone
  8. This weekend past I was out caching Sat and Sunday. I use 1600 mA LEAP batteries and normally they will last 12 to 15 hours in my eMap. But this weekend I found that I was going to through batteries every two to three hours because of the cold weather. I guess it is time to get lithium batteries for cold weather caching. Baston

    Scout Cache

This weekend myself (Baston) and another leader (Flying Quacker) took two patrols out cache hunting. We found a total of 13 out of 14 caches. 5 out of 6 on Sat. and 8 out of 8 on Sunday. Killed two birds with one stone. Got the kids out and go some geocaching in. The best of both worlds. Baston

    Scout Cache

Greetings fellow Leaders Have you had your scouts out caching lately? This weekend I am taking two patrols out caching and we will be planting 2 caches as well. Baston
  11. The meeting that I am taking about is the planning meeting for the conference. A meeting to establish what we want to do and how we are going to do it. John
  12. Most weekends work for me. The only location I can get on weekends is Mayfield S.S. How about on a saturday around 10:00am til 12:00pm, so that the afternoon can be spend hunting. John
  13. What day and time works for most people. Mondays are a no go for me. Most other days and evenings are fine. John
  14. I have an Eagle Map Guide Pro (GM100) and a eMap. By far the best for me has been the Map Guide Pro. Very rarely do I lose lock and when it does, it regains it quickly. The eMap is a cool toy that I got at a great price.
  15. After reading the posts here. I am going to start moving slowly forward with the conference planning. A number of you have expressed an interest in helping with the planning, so our next step is to get together and start putting down the ground work. I am looking for suggestions of a central meeting location that we all can get to easily. I live in the Halton Hills area. But I do have access to a meeting location at Matheson Blvd and Hurontario Street (Hwy 10) in Mississauga or another location in the Mayfield Road and Bramalea Road area in North Brampton. But I am open to all other suggestions. John
  16. Thank you all for your response. I noticed that 124 people have viewed this topic. I guess what we need to know is how many of the passive viewers would be interested to going to a conference. So please post a yea or nay on attending a conference. Thanks John
  17. This is a testing of the waters (geocachers). To see if there is the interest. If the response is positive then we will start the planning. I have a venue, located in the Brampton/Caledon area, that I can access at a minimal cost. Depending on how big this gets may require a different venue. I have organized a number of different events for 25 to 600 people. I would like to see the conference take place in late spring / early summer of 2003. Anyone who would like to be involved in the planning, is more that welcome. Baston aka John rothwelj@peelsb.com
  18. Each person can have a different idea as to what a conference is, so I did not state what type of conference. And that was to encourage other users would put forth their ideas. Personally, I would like to see reps from the different gps and mapping companies, speakers, workshops, seminars and vendors. In general, a well rounded conference. Baston aka John rothwelj@peelsb.com
  19. I have been toying with the idea of a Geocaching Conference. A simple one day event, located at a inexpensive location. ie. a school or community centre. My goal is to keep the cost as low as possible. I am saving my pennies for a new unit. If there is an interest in this idea; then I will start the ball rolling, or if you would like to help; then let me know. Baston aka John rothwelj@peelsb.com
  20. Has anyone tried it with an eMap? Nevermind, I just read the FAQ. It will not work on the eMap. Baston [This message was edited by Baston on October 24, 2002 at 11:19 AM.]

    GPS Units

I got both of my GPSs (eMap and Eagle Map Guide Pro) from Walmart. Their price is good and if you watch you can get some great deals when they clearout stock.
  22. Because we have too much time on our hands. Baston
  23. Thank you for the comment, Cache Canucks. But, I am not using any 'privileged information'. I am working on the information that has been made available in the logs and forum. 1. Due to the fact that this cache is being used for a class then it is very possible that he is in a GIS/Geography class. 2. Due to the location of the cache and the location of TLK and the past TLK caches that were being placed. There is a very good chance that the cache owner is a TLK student. But my reasoning could be for not. Who knows. But I think it is time we moved on to more important things. Snow ball caches. 24. Team O.P.P. If your logs are deleted again then let me know. I will see if I can contact his teacher. I think I know were he goes to school but I will confirm it tomorrow. If he is in the peel system then I can find him. Baston
  25. If this person is using the cache as part of their grade, then I feel they should have left the logs as they were, to present they project in a true light. But since they are deleting logs then I would suggest the we bypass this cache or have it removed.
