  1. eMap - 2000? Legend - 2002 GPSMAP 76 - 2002 60C - 2004 Geko 201 - 2004 I love my 60C but an ext ant makes it all that much better. My next purchase with be a rino 120 or 130. Baston
  2. This weekend past my 60C started to shut down after running for 4 min. The unit was connected to the cig light for power. I thought there was a problem with the power connector. I disconnected the external power and ran the unit on battery power. It still shut down after 4 min. After thinking about it for a few mins I had my wife delete the track log. The track log was over 3000 Km in size. After that the unit started working fine. It looks like the unit had a issue with the size of the track log. Baston
  3. In the Kitchener / Waterloo area of Ontario there are a lot of mennonites and there has been a problem with the kids drag racing the horse and buggys. Baston
  4. A black bear in this area is unusual in that Halton Hill is located 17 km west of Brampton and 60 km from Toronto. Bears are very rare in this area. I have seen evidence of a bear hunting for grubs/ants in a large log near The Falls Tour: Snow Falls North, Snow Falls West cache just north of Georgetown. As to running it to a black bear. If you get between it and its escape route or you startle it, the bear may attack. Just a warning. If you see it please call the MNR @ 1-866-514-2327 Baston
  5. Geocachers in the Halton Hills area be aware that a black bear has been sighted in Limehouse and Ballinafad area over the past week. So be aware of your surroundings. Baston

Greetings I have a palm. But I like the fact that I can load full topo maps to my Ipaq. But I use my palm with cachemate, which I love. Baston
  7. Greetings All Provided the cache is respectful. I have no issues with cemeteries. If you think about, cemeteries are one of the most important ways that we can keep in touch with our past, be a family member you knew or one you didn't. It could be someone from the past who had a great influence on the surrounding area or the country. I find that a cemetery can brings the past to life (in a way.). It is the closest you can get to some of the greatest people in history. Baston
  8. I have used the Gekos for geocaching and hiking with my scouts. And they work great for cache hunting. they are a little ify (sp) under heavy tree cover, but not bad. Baston

Hi Renegade Knight I have check in the HP forums, Microsoft, eBay, etc. I have only come across one company reselling previously owned copies at $50.00 USD. I am still looking but as part of my search I am asking here as well. Thanks Baston
  10. I still have my Map Guide Pro that I logged 54 caches on and I still use it on caches with a lot of tree cover and or deep valleys. But I now use my 60c for alot of the caching that I do. But the wife thinks I bought the 60 for road navigation, so we could get rid of all the maps in the car. (Married, no kids, so we do ALOT of road trips.) Collecting GPSr sort of became an obsession. You can never have to many. But now the wife says I have to give up some. Any one need a GPS? 1-Nav12 (available) 1-NAV200 (sold) 1-GM100 (sold) 1-Map Guide Pro (available) 1-eMap (available) 1-Legend (available) 1-GPSMAP76 2-60C (1 is available)(NEW) 4-Geko 201 (For the scouts to use) Baston (I feel lost with out my toys.)

Greetings all. Happy, soon to be, Canada Day. Last week I picked up a Compaq Ipaq 3630 pocket pc and have been trying to install GPXSonar and the sort. But I have hit a bit of a road block, in that my Ipaq only has pocket pc 2000 and I need to upgrade to 2002. I have been looking to buy the software but Compaq/HP not longer sell it. Is there anyone out there that has a copy that they would be willing to part with? Thanks Baston I still have my NEO but I really like the colour and the ability to download full topo maps to my Pocket PC.

  13. Greetings. We use the Geko 201 with our scouts. It is easy to use, light and waterproof. The Scouts, aged 11-15, find it easy to add waypoints and to navigate with, plus the games are a bonus. Yours in Scouting Baston - 4th Georgetown Scouts.
  14. In my hand. Baston From 60 deg to vertical.
  15. I used an eMap for my first 45 caches. It worked great. I put it through a lot of abuse and the unit just keeps on going. It has seen rain and snow and was never a problem. I think the eMap is great unit. Baston
  16. I use geko 201 with my scout troop. (age 11-15) The scouts have no problems using the units for navigating and geocaching. Just my 2 cents worth. Baston
  17. Our scouts have played a game like manhunt with a gps. Each patrol get a gps and frs radio and a leader heads off into the forest with a frs radio and gps as well. The leader will then radio his location to the scouts and give them 3 min before he moves to a new location. The leader keeps repeating the process until the scouts find him or the game time is up. 18. Fair enough Couparangus But CT would be wise to compare their price to other Canadian Garmin dealers and set their price in line with the other dealers. I am quite sure that CT gets the units a volume discounted price. But then again I am not privy to the innerworking of the great CT gods. Baston
  19. I have been using a Lowe camera carrying system for two years now. And I love it. I can add pouches or remove pouches according to my needs. Most pouches have a foul weather cover to protect the enclosed items. You can add padding or remove padding. And the weight is carried on my hips not my shoulders. I don't know how much my wife payed for it but I think she bought it at Ponds camera shop in Guelph. The model is Lowepro Street and Field system. Baston
  20. This reply is to igsonline. This is not meant as a flame but a statement of MY views on CT and price matching. I have no issues with my moral standards in reference to taking advantage of an offer to price match. Canadian Tire has stated in plain writing that they will price match on any item provided it is the EXACT same item and the price that you are asking them to match on is not from a wholesale warehouse ie Costco etc or a bankrupt sale. That I consider a fair request. So some of us have taken advantage of the offer. But some CT stores have decided to not play by their own rules. And that is morally wrong as well as legally wrong. Had Walmart carried the same unit I would hold them to there price matching policy as well. In my opinion, CT is price gouging on the the unit. If I remember correctly the unit cost is around $350.00 US, even with exchange and shipping. $700.00 CND is too high when most other retailers are selling it for 529.00 to 600.00. Baston AKA John
  21. At present time I have 8. Garmin Map60c eMap eTrex Legend Map76 Eagle Map Guide Pro (My first unit) Globenav 12 Lowrance GM100 Globenav 200 And I am looking to get 6 Geko 201 (For my scouts to use.) Baston
  22. I had the same sort of problem with Trinity Common CT. Refused to price match until manager could verify that radioworld was real place, all but said that I was scamming them. Georgetown was 1000% better to deal with, no issue with price matching. I called the corp head office and complained. Baston

I just bought a 60c at the Georgetown CT. Great service and not problem with price matching on a online printout. But the CT at Trinity Common in Brampton are very price matching unfriendly. I was told the the flyer from RadioWorld was a fake and I was tring to rip them off. I will be talking to the Corp Head Office on Monday.
  24. I found a chop shop dump area while searching for a cache in Mississauga, Ont. There were fenders and frames for 4 Hondas. Funny, no serial numbers to be found. (scratched off or the vin removed) This area is now being watched by the Peel police. Baston
  25. Greetings All In December I bought a Garmin Etrex Legend for $189.00 (Included the GPS, Manual and Data Cable) from Busters in Brampton. And this weekend passed I bought a Garmin GPSmap 76 for $299.00 (Included the GPS, Manual, Quick Ref Guide and Data Cable) at the HockShop in Orillia. I have found that if you visit the different cash converters / hock shops you can find very good deals on GPS units. And most will do layaway and offer a 30 day warranty. So far I have been very happy with both units. John
