  1. Well, this about kills my caching for the moment. I used Mobipocket on both my and my girlfriends PDA's, an M500 and a Z22. This will take me a while to find a new system to use. Anyone have any suggestions for a program to use? I just got a Blackberry and I have been using that but if there is no signal I need to have the Palm loaded.
  2. That site won't work for me on my Samsung x427m. It used to work but now just gives me "internal error" when I submit my lat/lon or zip.
  3. I have a 60csx and it works fine for me. But I can't use a dash mount as it is too far away for me to see it well, as someone else was saying. So I hold it. Gets a little tiring but I haven't come up with a better way yet.
  4. I use an m500 and it works fine for me. Others that have better units can use Windows style searching and sorting. I can only use it as an e-book and its much slower to search though I got used to it and don't mind. My next one will be a few steps up but this thing is still going strong after several years. Make sure you check the seller's feedback. If they have 100% positive feedback, or close to that, you should be okay making your purchase. Another thing I often do is ask a question of the seller, like the condition of the screen (any scratches, use of screen protector, etc.) before the auction ends. If I get a prompt reply, I am even more assured the seller will be prompt in taking care of the auction details and shipping. I know someone who got a new Palm M500 for only $30, including the shipping. If you can afford a little bit more for a PDA, check out the Palm Zire 72 (silver edition). That is a nice PDA that even has a built in camera.
  5. Yup, mine was the closest to where I worked at the time. I couldn't believe I had worked across the street from it for so long.
  6. I've had a 60csx for about 6 months now and never had this problem. My previous unit, a Legend, used to do this though. Best I could figure out was when I had the map detail set to "most" it must have overloaded the unit and it would shut down. I used the 60csx on the "most" setting and have no trouble at all. I am running the Mapsource software and I used the same for both units.
  7. Just bring a friend along, a slow one. Same theme as for a bear. "I don't have to outrun the bear/cougar, I only have to outrun you. "
  8. Oh no. I am so sorry to hear that.
  9. About 4 of us so far are planning a day of caching for this day. So far we haven't nailed down a specific starting point but It'll probably be somewhere near to the pine barrens. Its very informal so if you are interested just drop me a note.
  10. Problem for me is I have to work that day. If you are going to do Canby Park and you don't get a better offer let me know. I have a pickup and we can do a little cleanup until about noon. I work night shift that week and get off at 7am. And I am only a mile or so from Canby Park.
  11. It was good to meet you for the 30 seconds I got to see you. Hope you ride home was "Trenton free".
  12. I'm planning a camping trip in the Pine Barrens for June 10th weekend. I have a GC number I can't remember at the moment. I guess maybe Parvin SP isn't the Pine Barrens but I am a Delaware boy so I am allowed to make those kinds of mistakes. I'll find that number later and post it.
  13. Good for you. It was good meeting you also today at the event. Here's to another happy hundred.
  14. I'm already paid for March too but I'll give it a shot.
  15. I bought the GPSr cause it was a neat gizmo. After that I found a little blurb in Scientific American. That was last March. I just passed 200 caches not long ago. I'm addicted.
  16. WooHoo! Good job Chris for keeping up with all of this. And for keeping us up to date.
  17. I'm in Delaware but I work in New Jersey and got in with the South Jersey Geocachers. I consider myself an quasi-official New Jersey geocacher. But its an awesome group and I am learning about the pines, which before this was just some trees to drive through to get to Cape May. I have learned its so much more than that. Bring on the chiggers!
  18. I haven't tried yet to hide one in Lums pond SP. I did place one recently in White Clay Creek SP. I decided to go and hide it and then tell the rangers where it was and remove it if they wanted. The asst. superintendent returned my message as he wasn't in when I stopped by. He wasn't thrilled but as I talked to him it was the fact that hunting goes on out there that turned him off of it. That and the fact that he didn't seem to know much about it. A few caches had been placed in historic ruins and he didn't like that. He warmed considerable when I explained that geocachers are mostly like any other outdoor group with good and bad participants and that hunting safety was a frequent topic. I had also recently been to one of his talks on whitetail deer. I think that helped a lot toward putting down the "bad sport" feeling. As I did at Lums Pond I offered to run a program for staff and/or public on geocaching. I'm hoping someone there takes me up on it.
  19. If you hide the cache. Someone will try to find it. GPSr or not.
  20. I did the printing pages for a long time and it worked out just fine. I printed some close to home, some close to work, etc etc. After reading all the posts and looking into it I got a PDA and now I go that way. My GPSr holds 500 waypoints and my PDA can hold plenty more than that. Its like carrying 500 pages with you so you can cache from anywhere. You'll pick up the tech you want or need as you go along. Just enjoy.
  21. You might do better getting the caches by inputting your home coordinates rather than the zip code.
  22. Depending on your scedule I'd be happy to go with you. I'm mostly a weekday off person. I'm about 45 minutes from Philly so all those caches would be new to me too.
