  1. One very important thing to do when you run an event, is don't get too stressed about it, and most of all....enjoy it.
  2. Totally fair, the more unusual the better, go for it, and maybe even think about selling some of them on Ebay. Cachers are always looking for new containers and you would be selling them out of your area. Please PM me, cos I would be interested in buying something off you.
  3. I have decided not to send mine travelling, instead using it as a personal coin that visits the caches I go to instead. Will be ordering a couple more as pressies soon though.
  4. I have just emailed them on your behalf also, so hope things get moving. They are premium members so should be aware of the trackable etiquette.
  5. Skeg to Ness, well worth doing, have no where near completed it myself, but have friends who have and it comes high on their recommendations.
  6. I have emailed Collin but not had a reply as yet. Hopefully he hasn't been put off by the minority who gave him a hard time previously. He put a lot of hard work in to the podcast and I for one will miss it if he has decided to retire it.
  7. CHICKENS!!! We got some hens a couple of years ago, went on a forum to get some information and there was a thread on other hobbies. Someone said, "I go geocaching" No other information so I googled it and became hooked. Had an Etrex HC in hand within a couple of days and it has grown from there.
  8. Sadly they are pulling a lot of their caches due to an ongoing problem with certain other cachers, not naming names here but I think a lot of you will know who I mean? Their caches are constantly being saboutaged by these individuals, one of their Skeg to Ness series has even been superglued together so that cachers can't get in to it. Very sad as they are lovely people who put a lot of time, effort, thought and money in to their cache placements and I, for one, enjoy doing theirs.
  9. Hiya and welcome, believe us all when we say, it will intrude! YOu start driving around and thinking to yourself ~ I bet there's a cache there, and if there isn't there should be! Good luck.
  10. Having read, and reread this topic time and again, and now having been the victim of abuse, both what you could call non invasive and invasive and having involved the police, I can only say that the involvement of police is both important and necessary. I now, having previously stated that it was playing in to such a groups hand, now feel that it IS necessary to report any such incidence as far from being trivial can be a case of from "small acorns" I have now been the subject of major abuse, not only on public forums but to the extenct of having my GS forum hacked and renamed. It IS important to hilight abuse in any way case or form and the Police do take such things seriously.
  11. Or get it to someone in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
  12. Hi Brac20, Veering slightly on to another topic, as a new member, if you need any help or a caching buddy, let me know as I am only in Carlton, and can usually fit some caching in. Now back to topic.
  13. True, but there is a difference here. The cache owner will obviously have been informed by a reviewer that the cache was being archived. They had been given sufficient time to either maintain or archive the cache themselves and it would seem that they haven't done so. Stuey could always email the owner and explain that he has removed the cache as it has been archived, keep it for a while and see if he gets any response or not. That way he hasn't committed any crime and I am sure would have Groundspeaks backing.
  14. If you don't want to set up a cache in the same place, just visit once, remove the container and recycle what you can. That way everyone is happy. You have done your own bit of CITO and someone else has the opportunity to place a cache there. Everything has been done by the book, the cache owner was given the opporunity to either maintain or archive and obviously hasn't responded. At least you should feel good in the knowledge that you have done your bit in making sure that what is effectively geolitter isn't left in situ.
  15. Plus you have to seriously think about your hides and if you have the time to look after them, they are a commitment after all. I've placed all of mine so that if problems were reported I could go and at least see what the problem is the following weekend. I'm not sure how those with 100's of hides cope with this. It is fairly easy if you have a lot of hides. I have 83, a small amount are now archived having served their time. Although it isn't something to rely on, it is always worth having a network of local caching friends, so that if you can't get to one of your caches that there is a problem with, you can call on one of your caching friends to step in and do maintainance or check on it. Then at other times you can reciprocate. It works well around here. And yes, it does become addictive putting out new caches, just don't put them out for the sake of it.
  16. Nottingham city centre has a fair few, there is even an Earthcache http://coord.info/GC27063 Being such a small city they can easily be done in a few hours.
  17. Just wanted to let everyone know that the Summer's End camping event went really well. Despite heavy rain for most of it, it didn't stop anyone caching. The rain stopped on Saturday night to give us enough time for the barbeque and setting off of 10 chinese lanterns ~ our little tribute to 10 years of geocaching. A big thanks to all turned up and for all the best wishes posted in various places wishing the event luck. Roll on Summer's Coming 2011
  18. Just one final word on this topic from me. I would just like to say a big thankyou for all the support, both on the forum and by PM's and emails from everyone. It is good to know that geocaching is safe in the hands of a lot of good people out there.
  19. As you can see jacaru is back with only the subtlest of changes. Thanks again everyone.
  20. Thanks everyone. I have seen the police and they are very interested and are investigating. I have given them some names and copies of emails that I have received previously.
  21. I have tried changing the name back, but can't as it is already taken, (by me). When I log in as Jacaru I have basic membership, no finds and no hides. Just waiting for Groundspeak to get in touch and then off to the police. Thanks everyone for your support.
  22. Thanks for the support, we have two names to give to the police in the morning. From emails that I have kept that I have been sent in the past, the mincing word is one of their favourites. Hopefully yes, I am sure it will be sorted shortly.
  23. Just to warn people, as you will see from this forum post my user name has changed. This has not been done by myself. My account has been hacked and my name changed without authorisation. This is also a name aimed at my sexuality. I have informed my local reviewer and Groundspeak and it will be reported to the police in the morning. Please be aware as this could happen to you.
