  1. When you're packing getting ready to fly, and the one thing on your MUST NOT FORGET postit is not your passport, or wallet, it's the usb cable for your gps - so you can download caches when you get to your sisters house :-)
  2. We've never been stopped by the police yet, but would have no problem explaining geocaching to them if we were. We were however once stopped by private security guards and questioned. I made a formal complain about them, which I believe has resulted in a review of their procedures - because we were on public property not private property when they surrounded me in an attempt to make themselves look intimidating, and blocking off my passage past them. Because I had my littlest one with me, I didnt want any fuss, so answered their questions politely, and moved past them. They clearly were no wiser after I explained geocaching but didnt try to stop me passing them. I then studiously ignored them and carried on searching, while they hung about for another 20 minutes before getting bored and moving on. My complaint centred around the fact these guys have absolutley no legal powers what so ever and have zero right or entitlement to question a member of the public in a public space. They effectively carried out what in law (here) is refered to as a stop and account. Only uniformed police offices can do this, or a PCSO in full uniform, or a plainclothes officer who shows you his ID. Noone else in law (here) can carry out a stop and account. There is also procedures set down as to the records they must keep and my access to such records. These security buffoons broke the law on several accounts and failed to keep any record. I also asked for a copy of the claimed cctv footage which Im entitled to, and was informed no cctv footage was recorded, despite cctv cameras everywhere. I further questioned why there was cctv cameras there if they werent recording, and why, if I was recorded in a public place, was the number for me to contact to view such cctv footage, not prominantly displayed, as is also required by law. I have no problem what so ever with lawfully appointed police officers allaying their suspicions by questioning, but I despise these security buffoons who think they are a law onto themselves, most exspecially when they are questioning me, a member of the public, when they have no lawfull right to do so. I gather from reading logs in the area, numerous other geocachers have been harassed by these guys too. One even logged they won't be back to the area again because of these buffoons. I won't put up with it.

  4. Did I get that right? You mean you DON'T want it in the school holidays? I think it would be difficult to persuade lots of people to go to Ireland if the kids are at school Whilst I do appreciate that many people who cache are retired etc. , there are a large number of us who have kids. I'd say 50/50. 'Caching is certainly a family sport (as we find when we go to the many events that we do). I agree families also make the numbers up more than single cachers. One family username can have several people that all count towards the official number. Yes we have 4 to count with our username, and if an event with travel is outside of the hols, we would not be able to get there...sorry Sorry everyone - I meant to say so long as it was IN school holidays and we had notice we would definately be there. It would be impossible for us to go outside of school holidays as our leave is tied in with the schools. Note to self - when the rum comes out, put the keyboard away
  5. If a member of your team could meet us in London to hand over the cache, why can't the member of your team hide the cache themselves? We're conflustered
  6. So long as it wasnt in school holidays and we had enough notice to plan our hols around it, we would definately be there.
  7. Lovejoy's response was pretty much what we were going to type. Report everything. You can also use online reporting with some forces so not even civilian staffs time is taken up on the end of a phone - ok, someone still has to process it. Also, apart from helping forces develop full stats for budget begging bowl time, you never know, the actual intelligence itself could be useful. As for the moderation - you cant do right for doing wrong as a mod. Stick with it buddy. Finally, as to the issue of police actually deploying resources to investigate these thefts, fine so long as they can, but I've had my car stolen, police actually told me to go to a station they wouldnt even take details over the phone, and when we were burgled, the police never even attended and actually stated they would deal with it by phone! If I found out the reason there was no officers available to come to our house and collect evidence (SOCCO turned up 3 days later and said due to the time lapse it was a waste of their time but they went through the motions!) was because officers were staking out a cache, I'd go freekin beserk!!!!! I could hardly contain myself as it was!!!!
  8. Another vote here from us. Brillant and simple instructions so we now have our TB's on our ptofile page. Thanks.
