I'm indeed grateful for the loophole. I'm a PM and use the facilities that gives me. But this past week I've had my young son staying with me and we've been out caching - he was sorely disapointed not to be able to log one of the caches we'd found as he isn't a PM himself.
Thanks for bumping this thread, since I was similarly disapointed after finding a cache at an event last summer, and not being able to view the cache.
This loophole is good, but not really the best solution in my mind. It still creates two classes of geocachers, and hence the game is not equal for free .vs. paid members.
I appreciate these instructions all, and GC.com for not closing the loophole !

I wold like to have my Avitar cleaned up, and also maybe have a 76csx in the hand instead of the peice of cheese. Then mabye just the words Ratjumper arched over the top. If anyone can help me I would appriciate it. Or if someone has any other idea that might jaz up my logo would help me out. If it turns out I would like to turn this avitar into part of my signature item. aka a wooden coin or brass coin, or rubber stamp. (that is if it can be proprotioned to a coin?)
Maybe like this ? - Took some liberties with rotation etc. for a better fit @ 75 pixels.

You guys are really great
My Wild Thing vehicle is a "VW Thing" built in 1973...
This was an attempt to illustrate your Class A motorhome. Would you like the VW instead ?
Like this ?

Dino, what if you did some creative cropping to buy yourself a little more height? Then Wild Thing could still use the full graphic on things like calling cards or what-not.
Not a bad plan - also I tried this. Just stretched the vertical and unstretched the horizontal a bit.
I don't think the overall concept is too changed.

I have been trying to find an adequate avatar, then I read this topic....WOW...When you have time: i am a retired Navy Pilot, travel in a Class A motorhome, cache along the way with eTrex legend cx...many thanks for any consideration. Guy & Daphine
For Wild Thing....
I'm afraid it looks better bigger....

This is an absolutely true story.
When I was working as a lifeguard at a public pool, I had a young boy walk up to me and ask me what time it was. I responded with "it's a quarter to three".
The boy says "can you tell me that in metric ?"
I reply sure - "two forty-five"
With a "Thanks" the boy walks away fully knowing what time it is in metric !

That metal detector guy really should trash out those aluminum pull tabs instead of tossing them aside!
As one of those "metal detector guys" I can tell you that I and many more do trash out those pull tabs. We also trash out sharp nails, and rusty stuff from beaches etc. If nothing else we don't want to find the same darn pull tab again if we return to a site!

Any one up for a challenge? Our handle is "wewalkthewoods". How about a Bigfoot in or around some trees w/ a garmin gps 60 cs? This would truly make my day.

You can export wmf files from OpenOffice Draw, a free vector based graphics program. Download from OpenOffice.org
In addition there is a project underway to create a public domain collection of vector based clipart and make it available to all. The filetype that is getting collected there is SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) which is somewhat of an open standard file type. Some browsers can now view SVG in web pages.
SVG can be converted to WMF.
The collection is called "Open Clipart" and can be found at Open Clipart.
You can place requests for specific graphic too. Since it's all done by volunteers etc. response may vary on requests.
Another editing program that is open source is called Inkscape

Hi!
We'd be really grateful if you could help us with your logo or avatar. Unfortunately we're not really artistic when it comes to graphic software etc.
A bit of help would be brilliant!
We're called * The Gerbils *, we are a couple and we love geocaching and have got gerbils as pets. They are really interessting creatures and it's always fun watching them. We'd love to have a logo/avatar with one or two gerbils on it and maybe the geocaching logo?
Thanks to anyone who can come up with an idea.

Hi gordonparsons...
I don't think anyone has responded to this request yet, so I gave it a shot.
I tried to work in some elements here. The obvious hairdressing icons, the colours mimic the Labrador flag, and the overall layout is meant to mimic a layout that might be done by a scrapbooker.
I hope your daughter likes this effort.
I wonder if anyone could make one for my daughter
suzibub
she is a BBW and a hairstylist at Sears
born Labradorian, Canadian and scrapbooking addict.
She has been with me on my first and close to 100 finds,
only just recently got an account and logged a couple of her own

Hi, what a fantastic thread.
Can anyone help us with tidying up our avatar - the 4 colours seem jaggedy and I cant figure out what is going on. Any help on this will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Hows this ?

Very cool Dino Hunters! I like it ! Even looks a bit like me....the hair and *duh* expression anyways.
Is there a way to add eyeglasses to him ?
And is there a larger picture as well ? (larger in size) also since I'm very illiterate in computers I'd also like an image under 10k to upload as my avatar for my local caching group.
I know it's a lot to ask for something that's free, but please know I appreciate it.
Again, thanks very much
OK Here's the guy with glasses ....
Here he is at less than 10k, but looses some quality...
Here he is bigger....
and while we are at it... how about a line art black and white version.....
Enjoy !

I got an idea forming in my head on this one.... :-) wait for it.

I'd love a new avatar, if someone has the time that is.
I'm open to other ideas or interpretations of my geo-nick as well.
Many thanks to anyone who may be willing to give this a try.
Since you said you were open to other suggestions.....
how about something like this?

Tonights challenge reminded me of my second motorcycle which I brought home in a number of boxes in the back of my truck ? Having another GPSr related challenge would be fun to watch. Not the whole show being GPS driven though.

For now, I'm heading off for my #2 pencil, Big Chief tablet and my crayola box.
Thanks for any ideas and help.
This is actually not a bad idea folks. If you can make a sketch with crayons, scan and post it, there are folks on here who can turn that into a spiffy graphic too.
Sometimes it's the ideas I am at a loss for, but I can turn a napkin sketch into a reasonable image usually.

Hi Jeremy,
I have a request for you . . .
I'm using JohnTee as a handle . . . how about some kind of stylish toilet with a 'T' coming out of the bowl?
Thanks much for you offer of help. The art side of my brain is definitely underdeveloped and I have been wondering who I might get to help me with this idea for an avatar.

Are you still doing this?
We would be interested in a different one.
I lack the creativity and talent to do this type of thing.
Is there an application?
This one inspired an image today - - I hope I have the who's who correct....

I am working on a sig item and I need a line drawing of an ammo box. Since this will be imprinted fancy graphics are out. Just a simple line drawing is all I need. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated. Once I get the sig item done, I can send you a sample. The final size will be 3/4 inch and the people doing the item will shrink the image as needed, of course.
Thanks in advance.
I drew this one for an open source clipart project that I am involved with. Public domain!
You can e-mail me for the source line drawing files if you like it.

Helen Keller - "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing."
Wanted to confirm this quote so I googled it. Came to quotationspage dot com and then did some searches.
Louis L'Amour - "The trail is the thing, not the end of the trail."
Horace - "Remember when life's path is steep to keep your mind even."
Frank A Clark - "If you can find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn't lead anywhere."
Hosea Ballou - "Weary the path that does not challenge."
There are likely more available as well.
Hope this helps. DH

I've never really understood why a transparent background won't work for this but it doesn't appear to do so.
Is it due to the forum changing the image to a .jpg and the transparent background is a .gif thing? (I'm horribly graphically challenged.)
Yup, as I understand it, JPG does not support transparant backgrounds. Perhaps TPTB would enable GIF avatars, or really move forward to SVG if the software supprts it :-)
Here's the worm on the opposite BG...
-
The background color of the forums has changed slightly in this new version, although only on alternating posts. I've changed the color and re-uploaded the avs I've created, if the owners would like to go back and download again.
Miz
One thing I did with my avatar on another forum that has every second message in a different background was to have a gradient background on my avatar so that either the top faded into the background or did the bottom depending on if I posted an "even" or "odd" background colour post.
This worked OK, for the most part my avatar appeared to blend out of the background quite nicely.
BTW the current two BG colours are ... RGB 238-242-247 and RGB 245-249-253
The effect can be seen with this worm graphic....

Okay, you master avatar makers! I've got one for ya.
I'm going to make up some sig cards as a thank you gift for another cacher. Only problem is, I can't find what I'm looking for. I need a cartoon type worm with a magic wand or better yet, coming out of a magic hat. Can anyone help me on this one?!!?
Oh, and you guys and gals rock!!!! You don't know how much you're helping us computer illiterate folks!!! LOL!

Like this maybe ? ...
P.S. for those still waiting for a request in this thread, might I suggest adding some ideas to the request. I can't speak for anyone else in here who has created an avatar, but I need a little more to go on. Concept ideas, sketches (no matter how rough), examples etc. will be very useful for myself (and perhaps others creating avatars) to help us get started on your request.
