  1. I own a Gamin Nuvi 885T w/ lane assit and junction view. I bought this unit several years ago and it has served me quite well BUT in all my travels i've never seen either the lane assist of junction view available. I know when it was new it only worked in mega cities but ive been to Dallas and Memphis with no luck. My question is this a problem with my unit being out of date or will buying new maps solve it? My boss has a 1450 (I think) and his works just about everywhere theres 4 lanes of traffic.

  2. On your coin/TB item page look on the right side. In the "Trackable Item Option" box click the blue down arrow and select "Recalculate Distance" click go. Distances will update.

    That got it! Thanks!

  3. I recently purchased a travel bug with the intent on just dipping in every cache I visit, kindof to track my mileage.. I've "dipped" it several times now and the logs are showing up but no total miles... Whats going on here? Is there a minimun mileage before it starts keeping track? Thanks in advance, John

  4. Just read through this thread, and noticed no one has complained that their 60CSx now takes longer to acquire satellites when turned on, after "upgrading" to 3.90, but it sure seems to take a lot longer for me. Anyone else experience this?

Happened to me. I upgraded to 3.90 and immediately noticed that it took much longer to acquire, especially if I drove a few miles before powering the unit back on. Sometimes it wouldnt lock at all unless I stopped completely. It also seemed the compass pointer was useless once O got within 30 foot of GZ, always pointing wrong direction. I regressed to 3.70 and my fast acquistion returned as well as my accurate pointer

  5. so to hit on what Sgt. Pepper said...I just bought my Oregon today and it says it has version 2.42 on it...should I go to the latest beta version being discussed here or just try another earlier version? (thanks in advance for the help...I'm still new and trying to figure it all out!)

Personally i'd shy away from 2.95b. Theres lots of folks having good success with it but also quite a few that havent. I really liked the new features but I had a pretty bad time with the compass and accuracy in general so I rolled back to 2.86 then to 2.93. The 2.93 seems very stable... so far

  6. OK, i'm loading my "soon to be hunted" caches onto my GPSr with GSAK, all is well on this end. I'm also trying to load several other big PQs not in my immediate area onto the SD card as custom POIs thru GSAK and the 60csxpoi macro. That also is done. The problem lies when I try to update the list onto the SD with a new PQ, it keeps loading the same cache list as before. I've tried everything... New DB, deleted database and made new ones and just deleteing every cache on the list. What should I be doing differently? Thanks in advance, John

  7. Is it asking for "road" or "off road" when you select go to? Did you buy any maps for the GPS? I have a 60csx and haven't noticed this. Try this really quick to make sure your settings are ok.

    1) Go to Menu

    2) Select "setup"

    3) Select "routing"

    4) Look at "Guidance Method" and see what you have selected. If you have purchased Navigator than you would want the default to be "Prompted". If you do not have Navigator, than your default should be "off road".

I don't know if this will help but give it a try.

One last thing, have you calibrated the compass? Try that also and see if it helps.

The compass is on and calibrated, then turned off and on again. As far as the guidance method, ive tried them all

  8. I've been messing with it off and on all evening and have noticed that after I select a GC ( or any type waypoint for that matter) that the map page functions just as any other GPSr i've used... all the data fields are filled in and working properlyand the purple "straight line to GZ is there, BUT the compass page does not. Any data fields having to do with navigation (dist to dest ect) are blank although the others (accuracy, time of day) are alive and kicking. I was thinking possibly firmware issue so I updated it with no change. About to do a master reset to see if it helps otherwise i'll return it tomorrow

  9. I did that right away. I walked out of the store with it, put a pair of brand new batteries in, let it lock on my location, had laptop in my truck and plugged it in via usb. I loaded about 600 GCs with GSAK, selected the nearest on (in the same parking lot) clicked "GO TO" when the map page pulled up, I hit page till I got to compass and there was no arrow. The map page has the straight line to cache, but nothing on the compass page. Its got me stumped. Sorry about the double posts, at girlfriends house and her router fried so i'm borrowing the neighbors internet

  11. I had a pretty bad time with 2.95b. My compass was completely useless, accuracy ran from 90'-300' most of the time, even under ideal conditions. I rolled back to 2.86 then to 2.93. I really did like the added features tho and will likely give it another shot since ive been reading all the other good posts about it. Perhaps bad flash? It looked very promising at the start. Hopefully the bad expirences are very isolated

  12. The logs will most defiantly become outdated.

    What I do is:

I have GC send PQ's weekly (premium membership required/ $30 per year) and copy the latest PQ to the Oregon. I do that on a Thursday, so that I have the most current logs for the weekend.

The filtering isn't a flexiable as GSAK (more $$$) but good enough for me.

I can help you spend more $$$ if you want, just let me know :-)

The PQs will come in a zip folder containing either one or two files. All I do is plug in my GPSr. Once its in mass storage mode, open my computer and go to oregon/garmin/gpx and drag those 1 or 2 files in there. Then "safely remove" your unit and your good to go. Then the next time you update your PQ, just follow the same steps. The files will be the same name so just let it overwrite. Its about a 2 minute procedure. Hope this helps

  13. I'll go ahead and post a update of todays events. I had the entire day to kill with absolutely nothing to do so I figured i'd try it again to see if the situation improved (thought maybe the oregon fairy payed a visit last night) Well, set it on the dash of my truck and showed 22" of accuracy. I thought i can work with that and went caching. Made a few finds unit seemed pretty steady. Floating between 16-25 feet all day, locking on 4-5 birds. Then after about 5 hours it shot up to 90-125' and stayed in that range for over a hour, actually till I got home. Appears 2wheelin, maingray and I have a common problem. I'm calling Garmin first thing in the morning and i'll post with what they tell me

  14.

Think a master reset may solve things?

I have never done one but as long as you have no data to lose, it can't hurt.

Can't remember if I suggested re-installing the firmware upgrade as well.

I reinstalled it last night, I'm thinking theres another issue here. Its just not locking on to satelittes well at all. Getting 4 usually. Another thing I forgot to mention earlier was the last time I calibrated the compass it didnt seem to want to take. I had to turn it 3 times before the bar started moving, probably 6 full rotations before it said "sucessful". When Garmin customer service opens in the morning, i'll be one of their first customers

  15. Check to see if you have a DEBUG directory under /Garmin and if so is there a .xml file there.

If there is one, email that file along with a detailed problem description to OregonBeta@garmin.com.

    They might figure something out.

IMHO you can regress to 2.94 without too much problems. It does have a power off problem but you have to do specific actions to make it happen.

    Good luck.

I was thinking about rolling it back to either 2.94 or even 2.85 but cant seem to figure out how  Any advice? I left it out on my deck for over an hour and accuracy stuck around 150'. Kinda thinking its a hardware problem now but the way it was acting this morning makes me think the 2.95 BTW there is a file in the debug folder, i'll send it to garmin today

I would not regress to a previous firmware version. I don't think that is your problem. Others would be seeing the same bug.

I am curious to know if you get any feedback from Garmin.

  17. Yesterday I updated to v2.95 and was impressed with the bells and whistles...BUT i'm having issues with accuracy. Seems now the compass is pretty useless other than getting me going in the general direction of the cache. Once I get within 60 feet of GZ im on a drunken stagger all over creation. The compass pointer constantly flip-flops, I cached all morning and stopped using it all together. The sequence of events are as follows... Nearing GZ the "Dist to Dest" number slowly drops, 35'...28'...24'...18'...Then BAM!! arrow does a 180 and distance to dest says 50-60' in the other direction. All this happening with the GPSr showing 8' of accuracy. I cached hard this morning and came up with only 6 smileys, and I found those by chance, not by GPSr guidance  I have never had a DNF on a ammo can until today, and had 3 ;) , it was very frustrating. After I threw in the towel I had a pair of caches made up ready to hide, when i selected my location, it was showing accuracy over a hundred feet so I chose to just head home and sulk. Anyone else having such problems? If so, what version should I roll back to?

    Did you recalibrate the compass?

I cached all day Thursday and my 2.95 worked flawlessly. Recalibrated after battery changes and it worked great.

Yes I did, several times actually

  19. Ok, so what do i delete? I opened my folder filepath oregon/garmin/gpx and theres about 50 little files in gpx format. Theres also 2 folders named "current" and "Temp". I just dont want to delete my regular waypoints. And then what do I do with the new PQ? I clicked on the zip file and it was opened with winace, there were 2 files there. The seven digit PQ number XXXXXXX.gpx and the other was the same seven numbers then .wpts.gpx Do I simply drag one of those (or both) into the gpx folder on my unit? Thank you all for your help and patience.

  20. I am pretty new to all this, and am wondering how all of you do it. Right now when I receive a PQ I open it with GSAK and it saves all the caches, then I plug in my Oregon and "send to GPS" and thats really about it. Works pretty well, just wondering how i'm supposed to get all the "found" caches off my unit. It will eventually fill up and i'd kindof like to keep it cleaned out. Thanks in advance for any help, John
