  1. Would you take $10.00 for it. I just don't know how the coupon code works. I'll look at the web site and check it out.
  2. How does the coupon code work? I'd take it if you want $10.00 for it. Will it work on my Magellan Explorist 210?
  3. Pocket Topo! works with a GPS attached either by cable (dongle) or with an inserted GPS receiver. I mainly use it for profiles and the awesome maps NG Topo! puts out. Only problem is that you can't bring Waypoints from Geocaches over onto it. You can bring Notes (converted from Geocaching Waypoints) but it's just not as nice as something like Mapopolis or OziExplorer! NG Pocket Topo! is great with profiles and other navigational things though!
  4. I got NG Pocket Topo and NG Topo! for Christmas and have found that they both work great if used for what they were designed for. Pocket Topo is great at shooting profiles and figuring distances and elevations. Nothing better out there. I use it a lot. NG Topo! has the best maps and software available in my opinion. I have Mapopolis and it works great too. They all have their advantages. It's great being able to do profiles in Pocket Topo though. Just my opinion!! My setup is Ipaq 3950 with dongle to Garmin Etrex. I also have a Magellan Explorist 210 my son uses!
  5. I just ordered the Topo! and the Pocket Topo! by NG. Why is it that bad. Looks like it would work great for biking, hiking and caching. I may have to send it back.
  6. Downloaded latest 210 firmware 12/05/06! It may just be me but the acquisition time seems quicker. I'm getting more satellites with a more accurate EPE. This may all be based on something else but I've used this unit a lot and all of a sudden I'm getting 7 to 13' EPE (compared to 20 to 23') and 2 or 3 more satellites along with 2 Waas bars! I had an old MAP330 and loved all the different screens, well now my 210 has them all + projection. Love it. I wish you could add more than 200 geocaches though. I'll continue to add my caches into the Points of Interest and use my PDA until they up the caches to 500.
  7. I had to deal with Magellan Customer Support on several occasions and they did a great job. Just my 2 cents. Very happy with my Explorist 210.
  8. Thanks for the reply! I use a Magellan Explorist 210 for caching and I got my son a Garmin etrex (friend sold it to me for cheap). I want to use the etrex for in car navigation and I kind of figured someone sold a cable to connect to a Ipaq. Thanks for your help.
  9. How can I connect a etrex to a Ipaq 3950 so I have a GPS to power my maps and mapopolis programs. Is it possible. Is there a cable made to do this? Thanks!
  10. I use a Magellan Explorist 210 and it works great under heavy tree cover if you have any of that where you live. It also is very easy to use and has a great Geocaching database screen. I've been very happy with mine. I've known others that use Lowrance ifinders and they like them a lot also. The Legend is very simple to use (used one for a while) but is tends to lose satellite locks under tree cover.
  11. I've been using an Ipaq Pocket PC for paperless caching for about 3 months and I've tried GPXsonar, GPXview and Cachemate. For ME, I used Cachemate a lot more than the others. I also use Mapopolis for my mapping. It allows caches to be read in and plotted on the maps. Just touch them with the stylus and up comes a lot of the cache information. I also go to Geocaching.com and use the Google Maps for caches I want to find and do a screen copy and bring it up later on the Pocket PC. Works great finding paths and creeks on an aerial view.
  12. My Explorist 210 click stick cover came off and I had to send it in for repairs and I had no problem at all with getting someone on the phone. The repair was extremely quick (about 9 days from sending the unit to returned fixed). I had to call them another time recently and again the phone was answered in about 15 seconds by someone with a deep accent but still easy to understand. I'm very satisfied with Magellan and their Customer Service
  13. I have a Compaq Ipaq 3950 and I use Cachemate and Mapopolis. I used to use GPXSonar (which I liked a lot) but I just ended up using Cachemate all the time. I also use the Google Map viewer on Geocaching.com to do a screen capture (with aerial photography on) so I can view the tree cover, creeks, paths, etc. in the area while caching. Just capture the image and save it in Paint or Imaging and load it into your Pocket PC.
  14. I've had to return an Explorist for a rubber click stick cover breakage and from the time I sent it to the time I received the fixed unit was 9 days. Very good if you ask me. I have had to call the company on 4 occasions and each time the phone was answered in under a minute. I'm very happy with Magellans customer support. Hope this is a sign of things to come from them.
  15. I downloaded GPXSonar, GPXView and Cachemate. I tried all three and Cachemate is the only one still on my PDA. Love it even though it's not quite as graphical as Sonar. Just one opinion though.
  16. The Compaq Ipaq 3950 has a docking port on the bottom that is not a USB size but some other kind of adapter. This docking port fits into a cradle that does have USB though. While on it's cradle, there is a cord that has a USB blade on it. The docking cradle is for powering the unit and for transfers. This is how I sync with Outlook and Autosync. My Explorist can send out NEMA signals and I would think the Pocket PC could receive them I just don't know how to make the connection. I may be fighting an uphill battle but I would think this would work.
  17. I recently acquired an Ipaq 3950 Pocket PC running Pocket Windows 2003. I also have an Explorist 210 which uses USB for uploads and downloads. Is there any way to sync these two together so I have the Exporist as the reciever and the Ipaq as the display unit. The Ipaq has a much higher res screen and would be a great combination for both geocaching and direct routing on the road. I know this combination isn't the best for geocaching since the Ipaq is fragile but I just want to try it out. Sorry, if this has been mentioned on these forums before. Thanks!
  18. Downloaded cachemate last night and paid the $8.00. Works fantastic on this Ipaq 3950 machine. I also downloaded GPXSonar from the Archived files for the Pocket PC 2002 and it works great. This setup will help so much on caching. Thanks for the cachemate suggestion. I thought it was just for Palms.
  19. I got on the GPXSonar site and it said Pocket Windows 2003 or later. I have Pocket Windows 2002. Is there a way to upgrade the OS on this. I also recently downloaded GPXview and it seems to work pretty good on this machine. I'll look into the GPXSonar and see if there is an old version that will run. GPXview will probably work though. It's nice having the voice recorder on this machine. I can log them in and play it back when I get home. Thanks for the reply!
  20. Just got an Compaq Ipaq 3950 and and was wondering what a good setup for geocaching would be. What Programs exist? If I can download webpages into it? Photos? I'm not familiar with these handheld Pocket PCs at all. Seems neat to learn though.
  21. Just wondering what these logs look like on a PDA. Does it look like the geocaching web page information? Does it give previous cachers finds? Can maps be included? I'm probably going to get a used tungsten e or something similar. Thanks again for all the info on these pda's.
  22. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll check out the m500 on ebay. I here people talk about zire 71 and tungstens and get confused on what will work. I have a Explorist 210 and it would be neet to be able to hook it up to a Palm and see yourself on the Palm with topo or aerials on the background. It would also be neat to store your found and not found caches on the Palm with the topo backgrounds. I think it would be helpful to have a color screen and some kind of USB or Serial connectivity. Do the palms have these or am I dreaming?
  23. I figured it is about time to get a PDA for caching. I was out the other day and had put about 5 caches to my GPS to find and when I got out I had forgotten which ones were easy and which ones were multi's. I would like to be able to have GSAK or something (I don't know much about the programs associated with these) store the Geocaching page info so I could read it. I have gone the paper route and it is such a pain to print the caches out and I hate carrying loads of paper in my pocket. It would also be nice to have some aerials or topo maps showing the cache locations. I don't want to spend too much (maybe $100 at the most). I would probably use the PDA for some other things besides geocaching. It would probably be nice to have Internet and an .mp3 or video player. I guess the bottom line is, what type (Palm or Pocket PC) and what programs can be run in conjunction with geocaching.
  24. Thanks alot for your help. Hope my dad loves this geocaching as much as I do!
  25. I bought my dad an Ifinder Pro for Fathers Day and he mentioned he doesn't know how to store a waypoint at a geocache location. In fact his first cache find he did by not using a waypoing but watching the coordinates. I have an Explorist 210 and I just hit the MARK button and key in the information. I don't have the user manual with me nor the unit but I'm sure it's something fairly simple. Could someone help on this? I don't think he is to the point of using the SD card yet so I'm sure it's individual waypoints we need help with. Also, are these units pretty good at holding locks under heavy tree cover?
