  1. How about we just stick to the woods? Who's going to plant a bomb in the woods?
  2. Glitter, SpaceFace, MyBook, YourBook......phhhht. I just go to the bars if I want to converse with people. Which doesn't happen very often.
  3. Geocaching at a restaurant? LOL I don't think so. Well, maybe Hooters.......
  4. Congrats. I don't think you'll be sorry. I've only had mine less than a month, but I love it already. The big thing is I have come to trust it. I don't find the software that tough to use. There are some good threads on here about that. I like the controls much better than the Garmin. Very happy with mine.
  5. Sorry, I can't resist......is the next picture of you lying on the ground with a big pile of logs on top of you? What is that thing? Don't you worry about it falling on top of someone?
  6. Is it too late to ask what the heck an OP is? I tried to read all the jargon-specific faq's I could find but I guess I missed that one.
  7. Thanks StarBrand, I've been trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. It would appear I was not getting results as I was putting in "from home coordinates". BTW, your link was dead....I hunted this one down: http://www.markwell.us/pq.htm Thanks Markwell!!!! I got me a pocket query!!
  8. You're on, but just one more thing.....I'm gonna need a couple of airline tickets too.
  9. Yep. I haven't had time to research my process though, I figured I was doing something wrong. I keep getting the message "Your Pocket Query had no results. If you believe you should have received a result to your query, please review your Pocket Query for errors."
  10. I can't believe people make such a fuss over $3 a month.
  11. I don't get the idea of putting a cache in a parking lot of a busy metro area. I thought the idea was to get a little exercise via a walk in the woods. I'm not saying they all have to be buried three miles into the underbrush. But a parking lot??
  12. Thanks guys. Take a look at this one: Green Bean
  13. I have a Nikon D40 that I love, but it ain't getting dragged through the briars and the bramble. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive (less than $100). tough, small digital camera for caching?

    First find

Second find today, I am hooked for good now. I think I get it.
  15. It is a great site. And thanks for not using the term "newbie"! For some reason that has always offended me. you can call me an a**, but I would prefer not "newbie". Thanks Markwell! As you know I just joined recently too and found my first cache yesterday. On the first try too. Ok, I lied on the last part. I hope you don't mind a redundant question now and then. There is a ton of reading to do about this and after a while my mind turns to mush....so I resort to the old standard of asking a question. Thanks all.
  16. Still waiting to hear where you got your previously mention figures from.... Do you dispute them? The only way you could is if you know another number, so if you dispute it, offer up your number. They are accurate, I got the number accurately, and it hasn't been seriously disputed. 2
  17. Ah, the taste of success is sweet indeed. I'm hooked, there's a new sheriff in town.

    First find

First find, thanks to Mayberryman in Minnesota, fourth attempt overall, second at this cache. My first GPS unit took me to the middle of a highway. The DeLorme PN-20 did much better. And thanks to all who offered advice and encouragement!!
  19. Hey!! No stealing my "poor me" thread with a find.
  20. Did much better today, although the "easy child's cache" eludes me. Maybe I need a child along to help me!! I was right on top of it, but lots of snow on the ground and hints say it is in the roots of a tree. Will go back and dig another time. I dropped a red stocking cap, marked it and then walked to the other side of a pond. Coming back to it gave me a real good idea of how this thing operates. I like it. Now I just have to find my first cache.
  21. Awwwww come on that adds the danger factor, you could add 2 stars to difficulty. Well put, coming from someone with a handle of "ghettomedic".
  22. On the commercial comment......a lot of people don't realize what it takes to host an online forum, especially a popular one. Tons of people-hours donated, good software, and when it gets busy....some hefty hardware. I once owned a very popular forum for the Saltwater Aquarium hobby. I finally sold it as it became a huge pain in the neck. People complaining about the speed of the server, the intent of the moderators, the fact that there were ads on the site.....on and on. And we didn't charge any kind of fee, but relied on ad revenue and donations. They rarely covered the true costs of operation. It's sad that as a society we have come to expect product and services for free. The internet is a great medium, but this service is not free to the people providing it. $3 a month for this? I'm all over that. JMO, no offense intended.
  23. Does anyone GC at night? It would seem to add a fun element to the search. Unless you are in a metro crime-ridden area of course.
  24. I prefer to think of it as "an opportunity" to register.
  25. Hi, new to this. Started with a Garmin Venture CX, didn't like the controls, etc so I returned it and got a Delorme PN-20. I am liking this much better, but being new to Geocaching I am finding that there is a lot to learn. That's ok, but if anyone would be willing to meet me for coffee and offer some pointers, that would be great!! My treat, of course. I live in Burnsville but drive for my work and am frequently in the Richfield, Bloomington, Edina and Northfield areas.
