  1. Im a little lost... I have a Garmin Montana 600. I know how to download individual caches but Ive created a pocket query from point a to point b for an event we are attending. The query came up with 107 caches and I know we wont find that many..hahhaa Here are my questions 1. Is there anyway to show only those that are on the route? Yes, I already entered within 1 mile of the route but the caches are more spread out then that.. 2. I do not know how to put the whole query into my gps without going to each one individually. Do I have to do each seperately or can I put the whole query in with one click? 3. The map shows where the caches are and the names of each in the list but in order to do to download them (if I have to do it one at a time) I would have to look at each individualy on the map to chose the ones I want...This seems to be a tedious way to get there and Im sure there is a different way to do it. Once I can get the entire query to download then I can pick and chose the ones I want as we are driving. 4. I have downloaded SAK but Im not sure why besides I was told it was a good thing to do... an no I would not jump off a bridge if someone told me to do it!!! Also, with SAK I have noticed it says the caches are like 8000 miles away, I am assuming in Japan. Can I reset this to a different point? If someone can please help with this asap, Id appreciate it. I still havent used my new Montana and Ive had it for over a month. All this new paperless stuff is mind boggeling... Thank you very much...
  2. WOW...I was so excited. My brand new 600 arrived and I was ready to start learning all the new stuff on it. I have read several topics here and knew there were updates already. Well, now Im reading that there is even a newer update (2.6) but there are tons of problems. I dont know what to do...Help!!!! Please My next question is about the maps. Im not sure what to put on it . My 600 will be used for geocaching exclusivly. It looks like birdeye may be the best. My problem with my old gps (etrax) was that I would be caching and walking over hills, up hills, through neighborhoods and finally find the cache is located right off another road. This happened several times since all it did was point in the direction..urrghh couldve saved a ton of time and found others instead of hiking for an hour. So, what is everyone else using?? What is suggested? I am not a computer geek and it is going to take awhile to get used to this. Half the stuff Im reading doesnt even make sense to me... reload, reboot, basecamp do this and that, WHAT????Like I said, it will be used for caching only... but I sure dont want to get out with my new equipment and my kids and have them be disappointed because "Moms new high tech expensive toy didnt work" Thanks for any suggestions
  3. I must say, I'm a little surprised (but not entirely so) at the speed of the price erosion on this one. The usual suspects will be taking their standard slim margins and putting pressure on everyone else. When a manufacturer will sign up nearly anyone as a reseller, it's pretty hard to keep the channel in line - legally, anyway. Still, in the first week of sales, you don't often see 26% off the MSRP like this. I wonder if the margin on these was higher to begin with? EMS is running a sale this weekend. 20% off almost everything. They list the Montana 650 as $549 and then it's 15% or 20% off of that. Looks like Garmin is excluded in the 20/15 Event. Just thought I would add this... They may be excluded in the 20% off but it does include the 15% and you get an additional $20 gearbucks card to spend if you plan to buy anything again in the next few days (see below): Gearbucks---Purchase $100 or more and receive a $20 Gearbucks card Purchase $100 or more online or in store thru 6/8/2011 to 7/5/2011 and receive a $20 Gearbucks Card. Gearbucks will be included with package for online orders or handed out at time of purchase in store. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Redemption of Gearbucks earned from 6/8/2011 thru 7/5/2011 One $20 Gear Bucks Card may be applied to one $75 or more merchandise purchase online or in store, per customer, per day from 7/6/11 to 7/19/11. Valid on in-stock merchandise and cannot be combined with other offers, sales, or coupons. Gear Bucks may not be used for taxes, shipping and handling, gift card purchases, online gift certificates, the repurchase of returned merchandise, or product rentals. Gear Bucks cards are for one-time use only and are not redeemable for cash, and no cash will be given back. Cards are not redeemable by Eastern Mountain Sports employees. Other restrictions may apply. Heres one more update... The link for the 600 thru ems is no longer available. They are sold out online (imagine that). I called customer service and requested the info. The rep contacted stores that showed it was available and they held it for me until I called back with my cc number. I still got free shipping and the $20 gear card... Yeah!!!!

  5. Thanks, found that after I posted this. I posted another question in there after reading about it...
  6. I posted a question on a different board then I found all this here. I dont want the camera on my gps so Im seriously thinking about the 600. Please let me know asap what you think as I plan to purchase in the next few days. Thanks The Montana is a winner. Depending on your uses. If the "rider" in your name implies motorcycle, then you will love the 600 (much better screen than the zumo). If the "rider" implies a pedal bike, you may want to wait until (if) a bike mount is available or modify the ATV/motorcycle mount to your bike. Well, I could go on but there are many posts by owners in here that say it all. Trust me, you'll love it. There are a few bugs, and yes it sucks to have to be patient until they're addressed but it will be sooner than later. OK....all I want it for is to geocache with the kids. Are these bugs going to effect it??
  7. I posted a question on a different board then I found all this here. I dont want the camera on my gps so Im seriously thinking about the 600. Please let me know asap what you think as I plan to purchase in the next few days. Also, is there any additionals that need to be purchased. I am completely new to this kind of technology. I dont know what version the 600 has that I am looking at but Im guessing it doesnt have the updates Ive been reading about. Please help!!! Thanks
  8. Has anyone had any experience yet with the Montana 600? I am in the market for a new gps after a long time of not caching. I want to go paperless. This particular device does not have a camera which I do not need since I HAVE to carry my phone anyway. Please, anyone with any information, please let me know. Ive been reading all kinds of reviews about the Oregon series but this is the next step up and just released. Thanks in advance
