  1. That worked. I should have looked at the 'Interface' setting on my 400t. It is set to spanner. I've had the 400t for 6 years, I guess the settings aren't fresh in my mind anymore. Thanks very much for the refresher.
  2. I am using the USB cable supplied with my 400t. I will try the cable that came with the 600 but I would think they would be the same. Also, The auto cable is Garmin. I will put it into 'spanner' and see what happens. Thanks guys. Ron
  3. Okay, I have my new Oregon 600. Upgrading from the 400t. Took it outside and loaded the satellites and did some basic setup. Now I bring it in and hook it up to my computer and it goes into Mass Storage. How do I get it into GPS mode? My 400t says 'Cable detected. Do you want to go into Mass Storage Yes/No'. If the 600 won't work in GPS mode from my automobile cable it is no good too me. Thanks.
  4. Anyone have an idea how much a Garmin Oregon 400t in good condition is worth? I may be putting it up for sale soon.
  5. Yeah, I already have it set to the brightest setting. It just doesn't seem as bright as it used to. I have had it for 5 years.
  6. Does anyone know if the backlight gets dimmer as the GPS gets older? It just doesn't seem as bright when I use it in the car while hunting caches.
  7. I don't get it. I upgraded to 3.6 yesterday. All went well. Today I went out and found 15 caches. Most were within a few feet of zero. The purple line was always there pointing to the cache. The unit was stable, and the new geocaching dashboard is awesome. Goldbug Ron
  8. The Topo 2008 and Topo US 24k maps on DVD are not locked. Install them on you computer and send map segments to your GPS. The 24k maps on DVD have more states then the MicroSD card. I.E. 24k West has four states versus 2 states on the MicroSD. Hope that explains it. Ron

  10. Thanks Mtn Biker. I selected about 120 Mb of 24K maps and did just like I do for the Etrex Vista C. It worked great. Now in the map setup I have 2008 and 24K to chose from.
  11. I have an Oregon 400t which is loaded with full US topo maps. I just aquired Topo Us 24K West. Can I load the 24K maps into my Oregon or do I need to buy the micro SD version for the Oregon? If it can be loaded, how do I do it? I know how to do it for my Vista C, but it doesn't have any preloaded topos. Thanks for the help. Goldbug Ron
  12. Go to Wal Mart and get a pack of Write-Right protectors. They work great. They are with the Ipod accessories as I recall.
  13. Like everyone one else, I had concerns about being able to see the screen in bright sunlight. At first, I put on the protector that came on the Oregon 400. It was almost impossible to see the screen outside. Then I put on a 'WriteRight' protector and it makes the screen very easy to see in sunlight without backlighting. I love the unit and have stopped taking my Etrex Vista C along as backup. Give it a try. Goldbug Ron
