  1. Thanks teamajk for the link. Cool site - bookmarked! I solved the first one using tineye.com. It's a handy resource.
  2. These puzzles came up recently in my area and I thought I'd share them. They're pretty cool. Civil War Vet CIA-FBI
  3. I feel lucky to live in an area with so many fun cache pages. I view them almost as an art form. Backgrounds can be GIFs, pics, drawings or color. Here are some from the Santa Cruz area: Blame Buckmeadows Blue Suede Shoes Little Bo Peep (I love this cache page!) Gallo Del Ciello Sorry, I don't know how to do them though.
  4. Yes, I do. It wasn't the sole reason but it was the main one.
  5. I'm one of those people. When I first started out I was treated rudely for some online logs I wrote so I gave it up for the most part. I think my profile shows about 45 or so online logs. The real number is closer to 400.
  6. That assumes the CO could place it with that degree of accuracy. I recently found a cache that was a couple of miles off. Miles?! Hmmm... I'm gonna have to call BS on this one.
  7. Preach it! In a similar vain, this past weekend a local cacher logged a multi in our area. This was a very well thought out multi that leads you to a lot of public art here. His comment (in part)? "If I were a teacher grading this cache... I would give it a C." The cache placer is very active in our community having placed nearly 150 caches in this area. Guess how many US hides this cacher finder has placed... that's right, none.
  8. Actually, in the previous thread about this cache (linked to in Post #17), there were many attempts to read the barcodes, by machine, by websites, and by brain power. Hmmm... I don't know. Since this thread was started I began working on this puzzle. It took me less that 5 minutes to determine the type of code and method needed to decipher it (hello Google!). If I had Photoshop I'm guessing I could break it.
  9. There are a couple of cachers in my area (DarkZen and Evil Cow Pie) that are really upping the bar on great cache pages (example: LogJam of Doom, Free Bird). But this is hilarious, a deliberately bad cache page!! Anyone else got a nominee for Ugliest Cache Page?
  10. I know there was a thread on this a while back, but I thought it might be time for another. This cache page gave me a laugh: Feed Me! Got any others you would like to share?
  11. Here's one that blew me away from the sheer stunning beauty at the cache site. From the logs: "Don't do this cache alone! Having said that, this cache is awesome! What a phenominal view! What a phenominal hike to the cache! I've always wondered where this famous bridge is, and have even driven over it. Now I've seen something other than the bridge deck. This cache has inspired me to establish another bookmark list: "rohrerboy's Top 10". This one will be there." Bixby Bridge Cache
  12. Non-logger here. I disagree with the following: But I don't take anything. Would you be equally annoyed if someone stopped by your desk and said, "what pretty doughnuts" and moved on? There is too much petty BS associated with logging. People deleting your posts, etc. I once had someone gripe me out for cut and pasting a (longish) log on their series caches! then deleted my logs. I appreciate that folks in my area hide but that's the end of it as far as I'm concerned regarding obligations. I will and have dried out caches, replaced missing logs, reported problem to CO's (missing cache, etc) and I will carry all trash I find in the area out with me but sorry, I'm not going to log my finds online.
  13. Ha ha, It will actually be doable for you I think. It will probably end up near Santa Cruz.
  14. Reading the logs and description on the cache in question, it's clear (to me, anyway) the CO doesn't care if people work together to solve the puzzle. The problem is you've posted an open spoiler and no one was asking. I've lurked here long enough to know it's bad form to ask for solutions. I didn't ask for, nor did I want hints in these forums. You are right, I stand corrected.
  15. That's pretty bad form, JohnE5. Especially given that Dinoprophet posted: "It's bad form in the forums because then there's a permanent record here..." Aren't you the same one that tried to archive another puzzle cache just because you couldn't solve it?
  16. Yes. He gave a hint but I still can't get anywhere. FYI, it's not considered good form to ask for hints in the forums. Just sayin'.... Where did I ask for a hint? I was just sharing. And I've gotten a lot more caches than my numbers reflect. I find them for my own pleasure and have stopped logging them.
  17. Yes. He gave a hint but I still can't get anywhere.
  18. Here. very frustrating... ETA: I'm not asking for help. I know there are those here who enjoy a good puzzle so I thought I'd share.
  19. Ohhhhh... canal caching... nevermind.
  20. Thanks, Kealia. I've seen your name on a 'few' logs. Maybe we'll run into each other at Wilder sometime (speaking of which, as soon as this rain lets up I'm going to try for TWIN OAKS OVERLOOK which as this writing is still unclaimed!). Maybe you could email me the name of the local pub you referenced, I'll get my coupon from him. And thanks briansnat for the support.
  21. Excellent idea! And one I will use. Regarding the 'kids can't get there' statement; yes, kids can go where most of us old fogies can get to but would never stumble upon the placement I was thinking of (it's 9 miles one way into the wilderness) and would have a hard time finding it on their own even if they were determined. I was assuming if children were there with parents, the parents could supervise. Sorry if I was unclear. It's mute at this point as I will not break the rules and the coupon idea is better. Thanks for all of the feedback so far!
  22. I am new to this sport so forgive my ignorance. There are some very physically hard caches in my area like The Aptos Creek Pools Challenge. I am a very active person myself (climber, backpacker, hiker) and would like to put out a cache like this. The current FTF thread got me to thinking, would it be OK to put one of those little bottles of my favorite whiskey as a FTF reward? I'm talking about a cache that no kid could ever get to.
  23. I've been to that cache! I haven't placed any caches myself but I do like the idea of a FTF prize and plan to include them in all of my placements.
