  1. With all the s/w being written, "It's the electronically enhanced hunt!" She said, "Give up caching, or don't come home." Dang I am gonna miss her!

    Pocket Queries

Watcher really is wonderful for state wide pocket queries. It will take the data and and then let you decide how to arrange it for your own personal viewing pleasure. Go get. And send a tip. She said, "Give up caching, or don't come home." Dang I am gonna miss her! ///
  4. I noticed that used 16meg Handspring Pro are going for between $50-100 on eBay. Plenty of memory and readable out of doors. With GPXSPINNER and GEOCLIPPING I am gonna be one paperless cacher/geek. Maybe I won't have to cash in the kids college bonds for Garmin's IQUE! She said, "Give up caching, or don't come home." Dang I am gonna miss her!
  5. Get yourself GEOCLIPPING (free) and it clips and converts to palmos for memo storage. Geoclipping is reported on the forums. She said, "Give up caching, or don't come home." Dang I am gonna miss her!
  6. This is a slick program for Mapsource users. She said, "Give up caching, or don't come home." Dang I am gonna miss her!
  7. We made the CITO pitch to our local open space land use managers. Indifference can actually be a group facial expression. She said, "Give up caching, or don't come home." Dang I am gonna miss her!
  8. Creating caches for others to find is the way to make it grow. Even if they are virtuals!
  9. still not automatic eventho I put stuff in signature of profile and checked the box when posting.
  10. I selected a url image only about 2k in size. then posted this with the sig box checked and inserted url in the drop down box it only works using the drop down box entry it is not automatic. What am I doing wrong?
  11. I used in the signature section of my profile and the box is checked in the post. Will this work? It did not!
  12. could someone show me the code for inserting what I guess is an "ani" file that makes tings dance on some wizard postings? Please. [This message was edited by geofred on April 01, 2003 at 11:02 PM.]
  13. I like using Geoclipper, a program that allows you to cut and paste pages into the memo section of the PDA. No more pages left in the car at the trailhead.
  14. If you bought the converter cable that slides into the USB port and then allows for the attachment of the serial device, then you will indeed need drivers for that cable. If all you have is the serial cable which attaches the gpsr and the computer, you don't have everything you need. You need the cable referred to above. Here is one possible source: http://www.usbgear.com/usa/item_288.html
  15. I have just noticed that some threads start with the oldest (original post) and you must scroll down for replys. Others start with the newest reply. Why is that?
  16. We die hards lanquish in the mists of nearly orphaned products. No upgrade for us.
  17. The Topo map is useful for backcountry caching because you see the surrounding topography and can plan accordingly. Garmin's s/w is still rudimentary and does not offer 3D or profile views which are both nice on a desktop preview of the location. Unfortunately the s/w that does provide that cannot be loaded into the Garmin. You can d/l the waypoints you mark for your route to the Garmin even if it is not a Garmin product, so..you can get a decent TOPO map, plan your route then stick with MG for the actual caching trip and follow your desired route.
  18. I frequent a discount store that specializes in the end of the line merchandise, (it did not sell anywhere else--you can have for cheap) and bought a couple of window mount cell phone holders. They come with adjustable walls that move in and out to accomodate different size phone/gpsr. Never had to pay more than $3.00. I have got to stop leaving them in rental cars.
  19. I attended a recent fund raiser for a Larimer County local club where many attending were thrilled from the top of there lib heads to the bottom of their lib toes about the millions of taxpayer dollars (mostly Rep. voters) recently dedicated to Larimer Parks land acquisition. The people think they have done a good thing by opening the checkbook for the acquisition of lands. Little do they know that use will be restricted to single file strolling on minimal trails. Attendance at public meetings with media attention is the only likely way access will be opened to our activity. The speaker at the event was a photog who showed pictures he had taken (and were for sale) by trespassing onto what he admitted was private property. He spoke against the private ownership of land. Hmmmmmmmmm. Check out the County regulations at this site: http://larimer.org/parks/Regs.pdf Prohibitions against unattended property and modification of "any...tree, shrub, or other plant or vegetation, or any other item of public property" pretty much exclude anything other than a virtual. And now virtuals are suspect. [This message was edited by geofred on January 27, 2003 at 05:52 AM.]
  20. It may be the problem is not with your writer's block but with the Editorial bias blocking the approval of VCs. There is a bias against what must be considered a blight on this activity. At least by the PTBs. At least in my recent experience.
  21. I contacted Belkin.com and bought their adapter cable with driver CD. It installed flawlessly and my eMap connected without trouble. Thanks to all.
  22. Hmm. Nearly a hundred people viewed my post and nary an email of ideas. Well I discovered the great Plucker folk have created a "desktop" converter that does not require squat code writing skill. They even have a wizard that completes the task step by step. Plucker be great Avantgo be history.
  23. I have read that Plucker would be better than Avantgo for reading gpxSpinner files on my pda. I did the Plucker download thing and the guide reads like a code writers dream. I don't write code. Don't plan on learning it. But I am darn good at editing. Has anyone figured out how to use Plucker for seeking out pages for d/l on the internet? Can you send me something simple I could edit so that I can d/l gpx spinner files?
  24. I have Xircom USB to 9 pin cable. The problem is there is no support for XP and the laptop will not allow complete installation of the drivers. It would "endanger" the system. To those of you who have responded--are you running XP?
