  1. Call me stupid but the solution to this debate would be create a new category of caches that requires an ALR. Find them if you want, don’t find them if you don’t want to. For crying out loud, as an example, in my small state of CT we are approaching 4000 caches. There s a better chance of paying off the national debt before I’d find them all! The icon could be a Frog jumping through a hoop or something similar. I’m sure when Geocaching began there was only one type of cache. Go to posted coords, find cache. Then someone came up with the idea, go to posted coords, find container with another set of coords, go to that, find another and so on. Thus the multi was born. Then someone came up with the idea, figure out this cipher and it will reveal the coords to the cache. Thus the puzzle cache was born. So why not a new category? Why deprive the hiders and finders of these type of caches, whether it be dressing up like a pirate or emailing a code word to verify a find. (And I don’t buy the argument about requesting vs. forcing as the ALR is a feature of the cache itself.) The only restrictions would be not requiring the finders to do anything illegal or immoral. That should be obvious to the reviewers during the approval process.
  2. Under the new rules, no. It wouldn't be approved. You can ask them to email you, but they can just laugh at you, and you can't do anything about it. You can't require them to. Thank you for that! There's been a comment on a cache page of now their previous "requirement" being a "request" at this point. But they also mention that any finders may get an e-mail from them for some reason. My thought was to ignore the e-mail. You're not required to give them any information other than what's posted on the cache page (your log) when you log the find. Don't thank me (if that was directed at me). I don't agree with this decision at all. And no, I don't have any ALR caches, so it doesn't affect any of my caches... but I think TPTB should at least allow codeword ALRs. I'm thinking of Vinny's caches in particular - now every time he has to check for a bogus log, he has to charter a helicopter, for at least one of his caches. My point exactly!
  3. Or, you can check your logbook for signatures during your regular maintenance visits to your challenging cache. I look forward to those trips far more so than replacing the logsheet in one of my "tourist micros." I hide my challenging caches in places where I like to return frequently. The loss of a codeword ALR does nothing to my rights to monitor against bogus finds, except for making me get up off my couch. But isn't my understanding that you can not delete "Found It" logs? Correct me if I'm wrong.
  4. Under the new rules, no. It wouldn't be approved. You can ask them to email you, but they can just laugh at you, and you can't do anything about it. You can't require them to. Well then I guess all the complaints about "Lame Roadside Hides" are a mute point. Looks like creative hides are a thing of the past.
  5. Ok, I’ve been reading all these posts and I am still confused about this new guideline. Forgive me, I’m just a dog with an intelligence somewhere between a cat and a pig so bare with me. Let’s suppose I hide a cache that takes a 2 mile hike to get to. When the cacher arrives at the posted coords the cache can be spotted from 50 yards away. However, the cache is positioned in such a way that some ingenious ingenuity is required to retrieve it, open it and sign the log. As the cache owner I have put a code word on the cache log and have requested the finder to email me this code word before he posts his find in order to prove that he had in fact figured out a way to retrieve the cache. Also, it keeps me from visiting the cache and checking on every “Found It” post. Under these new guidelines, would this cache be approved?
  6. Oh my, Ginger . The mistress used to live in Diego long ago in OB -- I'll have to tell her about the Cheweez and get out there to meet you. But don't want to derail the thread too much. I'm at Camp Alphadog while the master and mistress are making their way around the lake. I understand that the mile marker series is driving them crazy with all that dinging on the Nuvii. Me thinks they loaded way too many caches! Thanks again for the input everyone! Reports say they made it to a balancing rock and a dead man's lair today without killing each other .
  7. Thanks for all for your suggestions. The waypoints are loaded along with 300 others. We'll see how many we can knock off in 6 days!
  8. Thanks, guys! Shameless Plugs good--the more the merrier--keep 'em coming, please! I mean really! Even a bit outside the Tahoe area plugs are welcome .
  9. Hey All, This dog's going to the lake in Sept. for four days. Looking at the map there are a gazillion caches in and around Tahoe, a lot more than we can find during our short stay. So what are some of the must do caches in the area? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Yodadog
  10. One of my Geocaching pet peeves is when I find myself in a group hunt and the cacher who finds it first (especially a cleverly hidden micro) pulls the cache out of its hidey hole, holds it in his hand for all to see and yells “I found it!” So what are the rest of us supposed to do now? It’s not really a find for the others and it isn’t a DNF either. I know of at least a half a dozen caches I’ve been to where this has happened and have not signed the log because I really didn’t find it. I now have no problem asking the others, “If you spot it don’t say anything and pretend you are still searching, walk away, and then at some point announce you found it.” This allows the others to find the cache legitimately.
  11. Thanks, Raine!! (PS -- the pages are shaping up nicely now! )
  12. Kinda enjoyed knowing how many were watching a cache. Is it hiden somewhere?
  13. I usually shoot them and hide the body at least .01m away.
  14. I too got this answer from AOL tech support. 'Please ask the sender of the e-mail to ask their system administrator or Internet Service Provider to call the AOL® Postmaster Hotline at 1-888-212-5537." BTW don't email your answer to me directly, I WON'T GET IT!
  15. Well that isn't helping us out at the moment. What I want to know is, Has anyone from GC.com contacted AOL to see what the problem is and can it be fixed? I would like to hear directly from them on this matter instead of reading the theories of others.
  16. Yup! Haven't received 2 I've created.
  17. Thanks for the response. I must have misinterpreted the original post in that I thought Jamz was indicating you could "delete or an encrypt the picture." Thought I was missing something. In my case, the log was fun and fine, and the majority of the pictures are fine -- but two of the pictures, although great pictures, help to defeat the fun of the cache for those that follow. Fortunately, I am friends with the cacher, so I think it will rectify itself...I hope. It would be good to be able to tag or delete, though, so I'll continue to follow the thread in case the option does become available. Yoda
  18. I must be a dummy--can anyone tell me, as a cache owner, how I can delete a logged spoiler picture from a cache page -- or even label it as a spoiler? (Yes, I have emailed the cacher already but want to know for knowledge's sake.) Hope I am not off-topic. Thanks! Yoda
  19. 572 Caches found with "Old Maggie" 315 and still counting!
  20. Redwood canoe--I can lie on my back too...and juggle
  21. I feel compelled to say one more "Thank You," DH! You are awesome! (Finally got myself uploaded.)
