  1. I have to say that nothing really irks me - I go out, I have fun with my kids. If we find a cache we log it and try to add a little bit about the journey there, if we don't we log a DNF and look at it as a challenge for next time. We don't get the chance to go a lot, but we enjoy every minute of the time we do. It's even more enjoyable because I don't really worry about how others play. ;-)
  2. It was just the opposite for me - my subscription expired and I didn't realize it until I hit up against the API limits. The horror! I renewed ASAP, and turned on auto-renew so that it never happens again.
  3. I've always felt that way as well. While it would be great if everyone "played" fair, who does it hurt if they don't? Honestly I couldn't care less about how many smileys someone has - even myself! We use them more as goals for the day than any sort of score. For us, it's all about the hunt. For others it's all about the smileys. Some people will feel the need to "work the system". I choose not to worry about it, and have fun with the adventure.
  4. Thanks everyone! I love wearing the shirt when I go out - I get asked a lot about Geocaching when wearing it, so it's a good way to strike up a conversation! We're pretty much "recreational" cachers, but it's one thing that we all really enjoy doing together, so spending a few dollars on some shirts was a fun investment. I usually tell people that the best part is that we just have fun spending time together, even if we only are able to find a couple in an afternoon.
  5. My son and I have been wearing our "Geocaching Shirts" for some time now. My five year old daughter occasionally comes with us, so she asked for a shirt. Of course, it just HAD to be pink!
  6. The great thing about the Interwebs? It's a great equalizer! If you don't like GS making money, or your unhappy with its feature set, there is nothing stopping you from trying to launch a competitor and take them down. Sure it won't be easy, but Facebook did it to MySpace and Google did it to Yahoo. Myself? I agree with everyone else that says that $30 is a fantastic bargain, and if they're getting rich off of me, then good on 'em! Buy the premium sub or don't. You have a choice. Me? I'd rather pay GS to maintain the sites and the apps than try to do it myself. I'm more than happy to pay the money to make sure that the work continues. Money provides a great incentive to get things done. If things truly get bad, revenue drops, customers walk, and they have some very viable reasons to improve.
  7. I just sent you a message with all the details. Thanks!
  8. For sale: Geomate Jr. in good condition with programming cable. **NOTE** As discussed elsewhere on this site, Apisphere has discontinued production and support of the Geomate Jr. However, they continue to update the caches for the device, and they have software that will allow you to download GPX files. This GPSr is fantastic for kids - my son loves his, though it's time for him to move up to something a little more powerful. $50.00 includes shipping. Paypal only.
  9. I have a Garmin Dakota 10 touchscreen GPS for sale. It's in great condition - I use it all the time for Geocaching, but I decided it was time to move up to the Dakota 20, which has a few more features. It's in good condition, and has been updated to the latest firmware. $150 and I'll ship it for free anywhere in the US. I prefer PayPal.
  10. This isn't about a particular cache, but caching in general. My son and I have been caching for a year or two, but really picked up the pace in the last few months, and have been having a blast! Anyway, we're driving home after a day trip (and a little cache hunting!) when we stop for a bathroom break. While he's in, I break out the GPSr, to *ahem* see where we are. I notice there are a couple of micro's nearby. My son sees this and we start talking - we should be heading home, but he says (using his 9 year-old wisdom) "If we don't kill some time, we'll hit rush hour traffic at home. I think we should look for a cache or two." So we did! We are so addicted...
  11. Thank you! Got it fast, and in excellent condition. Works great!
  12. Great to know. While we both really enjoy our "adventures" together, I'm sure he'll branch off on his own when he gets older. It's good to know he can count them later on if he wants. Thanks for the reply!
  13. Quick question: My son and I generally cache as a "team" and we use one account here. However, he really enjoys signing his name on the paper logs. Is there any problem with us both signing them when we find them? I want to make sure we're using proper etiquette!
  14. My 9 year-old son is a challenge, in a good way. He's very smart but quirky, he's been diagnosed in the past on the autism spectrum, though I've questioned that since while he's quirky he has a great sense of humor! Anyway, it's been hard to find something outside that interests him...that is until geocaching. I got him a GeoMate Jr. and while we're relatively new at this, we've been trying to sneak out when we can to find caches. He's already written an "Introduction to Geocaching" that he plans to put in the first cache we find. I've never seen him as into something as this. It makes sense though, since it involves technology and puzzles - both things he enjoys very much. I am so happy that we've found something to do together!
