  1. Hi PilotSnipes, Thanks for the tutorial. While it took me quite a bit longer than 20 minutes, I eventually got all 1654 waypoints loaded into my Garmin Nuvi 650, and I'm anxious to go try it. Prior to this I was loading the coordinates into my Nuvi, then into my GPSr once I got in the general vicinity. Hopefully this will speed up my geocaching experience. Thanks again, Pete of Camnpete
  2. 3. I like the looks of the statistics on geocaching.com profile pages that have been run using FindStatGen3. However, I have no idea how to get that application or how to run it. Does anyone have a set of instructions that I could use? The simpler the better. THANKS!
  4. Thanks. . . Seems like a waster of paper, but oh well. Pete
  5. When I print a cache page in preparation for searching only one of the two maps showing on the web page prints. The one that prints is the first map on the page, the one that shows a high level, general area where the cache is located. The second map on the web page, the one that shows the detailed map of where the cache is located, doesn't print. The only things that print in the area where that map should be are (1) an "i" in the upper right hand corner, (2) a "+" in the upper left hand corner, and (3) a "-" just below the "+". Can someone suggest how I can get this second map to print. Thanks. Camnpete
  6. Hi Peter and Gloria, Thanks for your reply with the link to the caches in Sydney. I've discovered that Australia (at least the large towns) are pretty easy to find maps of geocaches...you can search on the zip code, just like here in the US. I'm still having trouble finding caches in Alice Springs and Yulara. I'm also having trouble with New Zealand, as the zip code procedure does not work there. Any suggestions? Thanks, Pete
  7. I live in the US and will be visiting Australia and New Zealand next month, and I'd like to geocache while I'm there. Can someone please tell me how to get to a map that shows all of the geocaches in a specific area (say, downtown Sydney). Thanks
  8. What am I doing wrong? I'm having trouble getting the Yahoo Maps to load caches in the area being mapped. I "map it" to an area but it takes forever (sometimes never) for the list of caches in that area to load. Then if/when they do finally load and I select one that I'd lilke to look at, it also may take forever (or never) to load. Is there a way to get this to work more efficiently? Thanks. Camnpete
  9. Thanks to everyone for your great replies. I couldn't help but notice that two repliers mentioned the possibility of "critters" in Australia. Is this a problem? I'm generally a "stick my hand wherever I need to" kind of cacher. We are going to be on an organized tour so our time, and ability to get too far from the tour/hotel, will be very limited. Here's a quick look at where we'll be staying: Kingsgate Hotel Parnell in Auckland Kingsgate Hotel Rotorua Kingsgate Hotel Te Anau Kingsgate Hotel Terraces in Queenstown Novotel Century Hotel in Sydney Mercure Inn Oasis in Alice Springs Outback Pioneer Hotel & Lodge in Ayers Rock Oasis Resort in Cairns I don't really care about what type of caches I look for, although time will probably limit multi's that take a while to solve. Any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks, Pete of Camnpete
  10. I live in California and my wife and I are going to be visiting New Zealand and Australia on an Elderhostel tour in October. We'd like to do some caching while there, but I'm having trouble logging on to both the Australia and NZ Forums. I'm looking for some help in identifying caches for which we might search, given our itinerary and time constraints. Can anyone help with either identifying possible caches, or suggestions on how to log onto the local Forums. Thanks. Pete of Camnpete
  11. I ended up using http://douweosinga.com/projects/visitedstates. I continued to have the problem of the zip file sent by my Pocket Query appears to be saved in a folder. When I use the browse button on "Its' not aboutr the numbers" it goes to 'my documents' and shows the folder but forces me to open the folder and select either the xxxxxx or xxxxxx-wpts file before it will let me submit. So I've got what I was looking for, and again I appreciate all of the help. Pete of Camnpete
  12. Please, for the love of all that's sweet, please use capitalization and punctuation and spaces! I always have a hard time understanding you, and I want to hear what you have to say. I give up. When I browse on the "It's not about the numbers" web site I have to open the .zip file (because there are two files in that folder... xxxxxx and xxxxxx-wpts) and I select the xxxxxx file. That turns out to be a .gpx file that the web site can't load. If I simply change the suffix to .zip it appears to work, but none of the stats are valid...as if the successful download was empty. I'll keep trying. Thanks to everyone for your help. Pete
  13. Hi Leprechauns, I tried using "It's not about the numbers" but keep getting the following error message.."The file you tried to upload was not a zip file. Please upload the file you get from Groundspeak directly without uncompressing it first." I don't think I'm decompressing the file, but maybe I am. Any suggestions? Thanks, Pete Make sure that you just save the file directly to your computer. Don't even change the name. I get two files from my pocket query...893125 and 893125-wpts. Which one should I download. Also, do I need to log onto the "It's not about the numbers" website? It asks for an "INATN" password...I have no idea what that is. Thanks for all your help. Pete

  15. I've seen a map of the US on a lot of members profile page that shows the states where that member has found caches. How can I get that on my profile page? Thanks, Pete
  16. Is there a way to change my geocaching name without losing all of my current statistics? Thanks.
  17. Sorry...I have an eTrex VISTA and I can't find any comparable instructions in that manual. Any suggestions? Thanks, Camnpete On the Vista, find "nearest" waypoints. With the waypoints displayed, go to the menu (clickstick left from default top right corner). Choose "delete all" (or delete by name or symbol, which can also be useful). Confirm that's your intent. Ikim and Noj...that does it. THANKS!! Camnpete

  19. Is there a way to 'delete all waypoints' on my Garmin eTrex GPSr? Thanks. Camnpete
  20. Happy Gilmore, Thanks for the detailed instructions on how to download cache information to my PDA. It worked quickly and easily, so now I'm on my way to paperless caching. Pete of Camnpete
  21. Prior to purchasing the Palm Tungsten T5 I've been using 'EasyGPS' to download waypoints and coordinates to my GPSr. But that means I've still needed to PRINT the cache page in order to have the information on the cache, decrypted hints, previous logs, etc. My thought is that I'd like to be able to download the entire cache page to the Palm so I don't have to print anything. The ideal situation would be to have a copy of the cache page on the Palm. I believe I have successfully loaded Cachemate onto the Palm. If I understand the process correctly, I now need to find a way to download the cache page from my PC to the Palm, and then use Cachemate to read the cache page on the Palm. That's what I'm having trouble doing...downloading the cache page from my PC to the Palm. When I'm on the cache page on the PC, I click on the "GPS eXchange file (*.gpx)" link. It then asks me if I want to 'open' or 'save' the file. I assume I want to 'save' it to the Palm, but I can't find a link to the Palm when I browse for a place to 'save' the page. Does this make sense? Thanks, Pete
  22. I want to take the next geocaching step and upgrade from my etrex yellow to a better GPSr, plus 'paperless'. I think I've narrowed down my choices to either the Garmin iQue 3600 combination unit, OR the 60CS + a PDA for downloading cache info. The iQue 3600 sounds like it's a convenient combination but I can't find too much info on it on these threads. Anyone with experience with the iQue 3600, and how it compares to the 60CS + a PDA? Thanks
  23. I've officially gotten hooked on geocaching and would like to upgrade my GPS receiver. I've been using the Garmin etrex (12 channel) and it's worked well for me, but it's kind of a hassle loading all of the waypoints by hand. I'd like to get something good that I can keep for a while. I'd ideally like to be able to download not only coordinates but also hints, descriptions and recent logs...is that possible? I'd also like to be able to have some mapping capability, so that I have more than just an arrow to follow when I'm driving around looking for an urban cache. Also, what is WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) that I see in the ads? Is this something I should get? Is there any additional software that I need to acquire in order to make this new unit more effective? I'd appreciate any advice you can provide. THANKS. Camnpete
  24. Where can I get the Geocaching logs that fit into a 35mm film can micro? Camnpete
  25. I live in the US but will be traveling to Switzerland and France and would like to geocache while I'm there. Can someone give me the easiest way to get the listing of caches that are near a particular city or area. Is there perhaps a map that will give me the longitude and latitude of a city, which I can then load into the www.geocaching.com web site to find nearby caches? Thanks. Camnpete
