  1. #1 - 2 #2 - 10 #3 - 3 All were nicely designed! Good luck to all of the designers!
  2. I have no desire to hide my logs - if folks want to read 'em, great! But I would be extremely happy if I could hide the find count next to the log so others couldn't see it. Caching and cachers shouldn't be defined by numbers, but it seems like that is what so many folks do. I would opt out of numbers in a heartbeat if given the choice. I know I could go back and change 700+ "Found it" to "Note" but it's not worth the effort at this point. I have considered logging finds as notes from here on, but I do like knowing how many I have found and I am admittedly lazy in that I don't want to have to create a system to keep a count of my notes.
  3. Congrats ! Water tower view looks awesome!
  4. Ditto! It was definitely an awesome experience all the way around the horn. It was very cool to meet so many folks that we knew only by name here in the forums as well as getting to hang out with many of our friends from home. GW6 is probably not in the cards for us because of the location, but I am sure that many from the West Coast will be happy to have an event in their neck of the woods! Next time it swings back to the East Coast, we'll be there! ~ Mother Hen of Evil Chicken
  5. Thought it would be nice to add some spring photos to the mix! Today at Mission Impossible 2 - Audrey's Awesome Adventure
  6. Hmmmm - never saw or received that one!
  7. I just wanted to add in my thanks to the women for organizing such a fun event! Honestly, after some major issues last summer (health and otherwise), I had lost my desire for collecting coins, didn't find joy in it anymore and had basically stopped buying, trading and selling. Going to the party and meeting some wonderful folks reminded me how much I missed it all. It was such a pleasure to sit and chat with many of you and trade for personals and other coins. I may even go forward with a new signature coin that has been banging in the back of my brain for a year. Thanks again, ladies! ~ Mother Hen of Evil Chicken
  8. This was a really fun project - thanks to all who had a part in organizing it! I had 50 made in gold marked "EC5" (which is how we sign log books since there are 5 in the family) and 50 made in dark blue that say "3CHKS" as we have referred to them as our 3 chicks or 3 chicklets since we started caching. I ended up with 18 different chicks with a few doubles and I took pictures of them in groups of 4 and uploaded them to my cointracking list. I don't have enough peeps left to make trades of all of mine, but if someone is seriously trying to collect all 40 colors and needs either of mine, please let me know. Thanks again ~ Mother Hen
  9. Congrats, Laura! Onward to the next 100!
  10. Kind of a neat set of statistics As Briansnat mentioned - NJ has 159 pages We started caching on page 133 Our oldest hide was an event which would have fallen on page 121 if still active. The oldest caches we ever found are on page 157 & we've been considering attempting 2 on page 159 for awhile now. Not sure if that makes us part of the OG, but it was interesting to look up!
  11. So. Jersey has 'em by the bucket load and in all varieties. That picture of ticks on tape was from a .1 hike towards a cache! They have a mosquito control comission down here and really need a tick control commission, too!
  12. We usually just scrape them out with our fingers and on rare occasions use tweezers. The last time we had to pull out tweezers was when our nine year old had one embedded in her lower eyelid at the lash line. We had been camping and one attached while we were asleep. She was a cool customer and didn't freak out at all. When we are in the field and pull them off, we usually attach them to tape. As soon as we get to a trash can, we roll the tape up and dispose of it.
  13. Ditto from one of the world's biggest lurkers! (Although, I must admit, I have been surprised by some of the information I have read. For instance, FTF claims. I would have never guessed that some folks actually just spot a cache, but for whatever reason do not retrieve it to sign the log book, or just photograph blank log book pages and never sign the log book, then log in to gc, use the Found It smilie and proclaim themselves FTF. How can you prove that 5 other cachers haven't spotted it before you and just didn't get home in time to log it first?)
  14. Another offshoot of "Smiley Hunt" is how impersonal it makes geocaching. It used to be that you could click on a person's profile and actually learn a little something about them - hobbies, etc. Recently, I've seen noobs with less than a month of caching under their belt with their "its not about the numbers" stats filling up the page and nothing else. I'd rather learn that someone likes Kurt Vonnegut's stories, for example, rather than how many FTFs they have, counties they've cached in, states they've cached in, % of difficulty, etc. I'd actually prefer to see a blank profile page rather than scrolling through a page of stats. I am not saying that keeping stats isn't fun - or berating folks for having that information on their profile page - but I think showing a page and a half of stats and nothing else just reinforces the "numbers" aspect of the game and micro-spew. It has had a deleterious effect on the game in terms of cache placements, quantity over quality, etc. Maybe it's just a "chick thing" - but I like learning about people when I email them or read their posts. The community may have grown, but it's hard to relate to profiles of pure numbers. I'd rather learn about the people behind them. ~ Mother Hen

  16. Ditto! We'd like to purchase a few and put them in the NJ cache.
  17. New Jersey is in the reviewers' queue! Keep your eyes peeled for it.
  18. Looks awesome -- thanks so much for letting us participate! Evil Chicken & Mother Hen
  19. It's been nearly 2 1/2 years since we've had any pinned thread about geocaching organizations in this forum. Many of us are very happy that we again have a central place to post them again! Why the nasty critique, pgh? Granted, it would be great to have all groups listed in the top post - but Keystone never said that wouldn't occur. Maybe when there are more links in the thread or when he has the time or if someone asks NICELY, he would consider granting that request. Even if he doesn't want to put them all in one post, so what?! Folks can't scroll through the posts to see what's around? I would like to add my thanks to Keystone for getting whatever issue resolved that allows us to have a pinned thread that provides folks with information on how to get in touch with local geocaching groups. Our group certainly appreciates your efforts. ~ Mother Hen
  20. South Jersey Geocaching From the website: "The South Jersey Geocaching Organization exists to promote the sport of geocaching within Southern New Jersey. We are a group of active geocachers who use the resources of the South Jersey Geocaching Organization to socialize with other members, work cooperatively with land managers and to promote responsible geocaching in our area. We invite all interested geocachers living, actively caching or interested in caching in Southern New Jersey to join us!" Edit: (typo)
