  1. No disagreement. The site has not had any new development or enhancements work in several years. The only development that has been done is to fix some of the problems that have been caused by changes to geocaching site which also were also underlying Waymarking site thus breaking functionality and not all those breaks have been fixed.
  2. For one this idea is such an edge case of a virtual that is not near typical of virtual caches (I have a fair amount experience with them over 500 finds on virtuals). Have you attempted to submit this to Best Kept Secret category? Best Kept Secrets is there for those who want to create the "true" virtual cache experience (whatever that means) and it is fairly open category for creating experiences and does not have photo requirements. If you have not attempted or asked the leader of that category if your idea would be accepted then don't say it does not fit. I understand your niche category would have problems on the Waymarking site. Not with the actual structure of the site but more with the criteria that are applied to category creation namely the global criteria and the prevalence criteria. A few years back I had proposed that a new type of categories be allowed for this type of niche category where they would not be included in the global game statistic etc but would be searchable on the site. However that idea was not supported by the community.
  3. I cannot think of one on Waymarking that does not end up with tons of compromises while the scenario works without any compromises on any site that allows virtual geocaches which in my opinion proves that virtual geocaching is not a subset of Waymarking. (By the way; locationless caches are also not a real subset of Waymarking as the most interesting aspect of locationless caches in my opinion was that one had to find an object not yet logged by someone else.) For someone that has done ZERO Waymarking you sure try to pass yourself out as an expert on the subject. A couple categories come to mind that probably would accomplish what is desired, Waytours and Best Kept Secrets are both fairly free form categories and there are probably other categories as well. As far as locationless caches, each time a new waymark is submitted/created it is the same (maybe a bit more work) as logging a locationless ie. "one had to find an object not yet logged by someone else"
  4. HHL move on and do not post further to this topic as you do not seem to have the ability to add anything of value. His question was about his category description and not his forum post.
  5. I think I go pretty close to your area. I go just north of Eugene, through Corvallis and just west of Salem.
  6. If your only entry is correct someone's choice of words please don't comment. It adds no value to the discussion.
  7. You accept the additional login here in the forums? Why? Easy answer though off-topic as the question: Even the separate login on Waymarking is acceptable to me too if I want to use the Waymarking site in its own right (I have logged into the site quite a number of times) but not when I quickly want to check whether a waymark is nearby a cache and I use the link on gc.com. (If I do so it's typically without genuine interest into Waymarking - it's just to see whether there might be an interesting location nearby when I'm in an unknown area). Easy solution. Put a check in the Remember me checkbox on the Waymarking login page. Problem solved.
  8. Again you are incorrect in your assumption but we are getting used to that. If you have set up categories or even complete sets of categories (such as businesses) to be ignored waymarks in those categories will not show when you do a search of nearby waymarks from a cache page on gc.com.
  9. There are already historical marker categories for all 50 US states and 6 Canadian provinces. The precedent has already been set. Agreed, however this would be an extension to that precedence as this is for site/buildings on state registers thus could result in a new category for each state, not something I would want to see.
  10. I think the idea is good but my concern is precedence it may set. In the U.S. like the Dutch we have many state that have state registers and some do not. They are all administered differently, in many cases they overlap the National Register with some on state registers also on the national. As each state's register is administered differently it would be unwieldy to have one inclusive category and I would not like to see 50 separate state categories either. When it comes to municipal registers/list they are countless and diverse thus difficult to administer well as a category. I am sure other countries have similar situations. My concern is that it could lead to a proliferation of region specific categories.
  11. The review of my categories took less time than I expected. I have done several promotions and was able to do so from existing regular members. One more check mark on my ever growing to do list
  12. Over the next few weeks I am going through the categories I lead or do most reviewing and will be promoting officers to insure there are sufficient officers. I will be posting in this thread categories I do not have sufficient active regular members to promote. Note I am doing this NOT because I am quitting Waymarking but due to my limited access and time during my planned 3-4 month or more tricycle tour across the United States along with more intense preparation in the couple months before my tour begins. I am riding from Yorktown, Virginia to Astoria, Oregon following the Adventure Cycling's TransAmericaroute. I have not decided what I will do once I get to Oregon. For those interested I plan on posting to a blog (address will be released later).
  13. There is a Worldwide Cemeteries category which accepts all cemeteries without regard to their status. One of the "variables" for a waymark in this category is Status and for the cemetery you are referencing it would be classed as Inactive- Maintained.
  14. The only partially abandoned cemetery that I remember coming across is the Greenwood Cemetery in suburban St. Louis. One of twelve African-American cemeteries in the St. Louis metro area. For many years it would have been considered abandoned but now I would say it is partially restored though only a small portion of its 30 plus acres is maintained.
  15. I think there are problems with "boarded up" buildings. In many small towns much of the old downtown area is "boarded up". Also whole sections of larger cities may be in that status. They may be in that status for an extended period of time and some may only be in that status for a short period while they are being renovated. In the U.S. in many places these buildings may be either listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places or they may be contributing buildings in Historic Districts.
  16. Why? Ask the leaders of Town Clock category, for example. Usually climbing on or going inside town clocks is forbidden, it still makes sense for many people to waymark and 'visit' them. Your answer is not relevant. You can enjoy a clock and tower without entering as they are clearly visible. How do you enjoy a visit to a nature area that you can not enter? It is bad form to use other categories to "justify" your category, if your category can't stand on its own then don't try to raise questions about a category that has around for nearly 10 years.
  17. The search is working for me. Enter complete waymark code including the WM in the find waymarks box. Use all capital letters.
  18. You can strip the orientation from the photos using a program called exifcleaner, then when you rotate the photo the correct orientation will get saved when you rotate the photo.
  19. Try clearing your browser cache and delete Groundspeak cookies and see if that fixes issue. Also try logging into the geocaching site as both sites use same log in procedures.
  20. The category and waymark searches are now working.
  21. Unfortunately not. The best you can do is download 25 at a time from page. Search from the center point of the desired area and then do multiple page downloads.
  22. It is back working. Groundspeak has been working on the search function for both categories and waymarks. The search now works for new categories and waymarks.
