  1. I'm having this exact problem. I check coordinates for proposed new cache locations to make sure they are far enough away from nearby caches, install them, they get denied due to "hidden/secrete" waypoints and I have to go uninstall them. Why don't the waypoints show up on the search? What is a hidden waypoint anyway? The most recent conflicting one is a seven stage multicache. It had coordinates listed for each stage and they are all over 3,000' from my proposed cache location.
  2. I just started placing caches and have a couple of questions. I've had a few comments/complaints about inaccurate coordinates. I'm using an iPhone6 GPS to measure cords and then comparing to Google Maps. In some cases I'm right on, in other up to 15" +/- off. I'm reading/getting different opinions about the accuracy of both iPhones and Google Maps. Others have said just buy a "real GPS". I have a Garmin that is made for a car. Can it be used? I also recently found a cache for which the listed coordinates seemed to be quite far off from the actual location. Google maps clearly shows the location in the street while the actual location is about 20' away behind the parkway and sidewalk. I've noticed this same thing on other caches by this hider. I don't really want to call the hider out in the comments but is it considered rude to send them a PM asking them to check the coordinates? I've also seen some caches that allow cache finders to submit their own corrected coordinates. What is the purpose of this? If you think your coordinates are off, shouldn't you just fix them?
  3. Give 'em a day or two, to look into things and get back to you... You were right, they got 'round to it so now I have oodles of favorite points to bestow. Thanks for all the help.
  4. Did you try the "Log out, log back in" trick? That fixes a lot of things and might work on this too. Tried it, didn't work. But thanks for trying.
  5. You may be right Pup, my profile now shows I have earned one favorite point, which I understand you get when you upgrade to a premium membership. I've contacted Groundspeak but haven't heard back yet.
  6. Caching as a Basic Member 'Founds' count towards Favourite Points. However... IF you were a Premium Member, let it lapse, then rejoined as a Premium Member, the finds when lapsed don't count. I saw that. I had about 350 logged finds as a basic member and just upgraded yesterday so don't know what is happening.
  7. Maybe it worked that way at one time. No longer so. It worked that way for me just now. Thanks for the help guys. Doc
  8. I think I may have just figured out that the reason that I can't award any favorite points is because I don't have any to award. Since I have found 360 caches, I thot that would have translated to 36 points when I upgraded to premium membership. Is that right?
  9. I've searched trying to find out the answer without luck so am hoping somebody wiser can help me out. I recently upgraded to premium membership. My user profile status reflects this but the status that shows on forum threads still shows just "member". Do I need to change a profile setting? Thanks in advance for any help. Doc
  10. I may embarrass myself by asking this but I've looked and can't find it. Where exactly do I click to get the option to award a favorite point? I've clicked on the little box that shows the already awarded points total and it opens to some stats but I don't see a link to award my own point. Thanks for the help Link for reference: Favorites Thanks for the reply. Sorry to be dense. I've read all that. I've already found and logged the cache. I just cant find where I click to "Add to your Favorites" on the cache's webpage.

  12. Hey BP, Thankx for stealing my thread.
  13. I've been geocaching awhile but am new to trackables. I recently left two travel bugs in caches near my home. Since dropping them off, several fellow geocachers have found the caches, but so far nobody has taken the travel bugs with them or mentioned them. They still show in the cache inventory, although I don't know if they are really there or not. I can't help but wondering why someone hasn't picked them up and moved them to another cache. Am I missing something?
  14. Mrs. Doc and I just found out about geocaching from our daughter's family and found our first cache on Christmas Day. Looking forward to many more. Doc
  15. Me and Mrs. Doc just found out about geo-caching and found our first cache. Sounds like a real funny way to waste (er, I mean spend) a whole lotta time. Didn't know the first thing about GPS units until a few months ago when I got a Garmin for my car. We'll use it for a little while to see if the infatuation continues, althought I can't wait until we get to look for another. Doc
