  1. Please add the tb logging functionality that is on the website to the app. Especially being able to drop or visit a tb to the cacahe im currently logging. It is annoying to have to make a draft and remember to go back and edit it on a browser.
  2. I just called about the power button on my 60cs. it doesn't like to work in the heat of a car, and i had forgotten that and today the rubber over it cracked. so i called about the cracked rubber piece and the power button that is a pain to use generally after a few hot cars. the guy told me that 125 is flat rate but he would do mine for 70 since it seemed hat was the only problem i am having. seems reasonable, but i wonder if there is a glue or something i can use to seal it back up. I don't want to be without for 2 weeks (even though i had lost it for a month or more recently) and still think 70 is a bit high for a piece of rubber and a switch. almost wish i could get the parts and do it myself. on another note has anyone successfully taken one apart and repaired any problems themselves? I have been searching for power button issues but apparently i stink at searching these forums...
  3. Well I have used GPXsonar for a few years now on my HP, and a year or so ago i got cachemate to see what all the fuss was about. I really like gpxsonar, and use it mainly. I am using the latest version, and like how quickly me PQ loads. it is easy to switch between 2 or 3 when needed. also, its memory of notes goes from one gpz to another, so i f you found a cache already in another file it will show up that way in the new one. but at the same time i wish you could export all the notes from several files if you are out one day and go between a few of them to make logging easier later. So the reason I got cachemate was i liked the cachenav feature to use my bluetooth GPS to find it. I am trying to not have to switch back and forth between the two, or make it less bulky for a quickie while out and about. However I just recently got this to actually work somewhat. and wish they had a map feature (like smache)... But I find the switching between screens to get all the info annoying although it almost feels like there is more info (but not needed for the cache). Loading gpxs are a LOT slower (but i also keep it on a memory card) and unbearable. I am not sure how to get rid of cache's that weren't updated either so i get a lot of old cache's in the database. Did I mention it hooks up to my bluetooth gps ? one bonus of that is super easy figuring out which caches are closest to find descriptions easily. To its benefit, I was talking to a local cacher recently to get a tutorial on this program, and he is an avid hider (I am not), So i see this program as a great benefit for hiders, easy switch between databases, and also it is set up to make new cache pages on the spot. All told, I still like GPXsonar better, but am playing with cachemate more and more. Sonar is simpler I felt, and looks like GSAK in many ways. dougtape
  4. I love my eneloops. Especially as someone who is rather sporadic about using my camera and my gps, they are always ready to go. Also I use the case as a way to tell what is charged. I write charges at the hinge and point the little nub there if charges and towards the opening if not....
  5. So then why do they show up in GSAK for caches when i am not connected to the interet??? and it is not a cache that i have gone to the page for?
  6. It shows jpegs fine. what is puzzling me is that when I use GSAK they show up in the window of cache information. but when I am using cachemate or gpxsonar they do not. and I don't usually have internet connection when i use gsak so to me that says that they are part of the gpx file. but mabe i am wrong about that.
  7. Ok so I have been researching and scratching my head about his for a while now, and have found one answer but not the other. I am using a PPC and both gpx sonar and cachemate. I like gpxsonar beter so far but was getting frustrated about not being able to see pictures, when they were really important to the cache. so I got cachemate since i heard it can. But nnooooooooooo I was wrong it doesn't show me pictures eitehr unless i have looked at the online page on my ppc lately. and i have found that in the documentation after i bought it, oh well it was cheap... so that answers one question. so my other one is is gpxsonar the same way or am i supposed to be able to see them offline on my pda also? if not how can i do this. I am experimenting with exporting an html from gsak but man thats gonna be a pain in te but if i have to do it that way.... I guess doing recon on caches ahead of time is a good idea too huh? but i usually just see whats close and go for it. dougtape
  8. It's actually been a week or two now. I don't understand why, since she's always been quick to reply in the past. vacation???
  9. This is the greatest PPC program i have! Caching is so much easier now. those palm people don't know what they are missing... I would love to help beta. I have a HP ipaq rx3115 running windows mobile 2003 SE 4.21.1088 dougtape
  10. Batteries are available online. they have ads in popular science and various other magazines. lookig at the company info, a GREAT new technology. I hope everyone switches to these batteries. Amazon 4 AA and charger 4 AA $25 and $15 respectively dougtape
  11. I am heading to cincinnati to visit the family. While i have done a few cache's there 9its where i was introduced actually) I was wonderign if there are any recomendations of good cache's for me and my brother to accomplish while we are both in town (something of a miracle in its own right!) thanks! dougtape
  12. Well after reading a _lot_ of opinions and comparing several diferent models i decided to go with the Gpsmap 60CS especially after playing with one in the store recently and seeing the potential of the compass feature while zeroing in on caches (I only have two hands and it is hard to hold gpsr, regular compass, and sometimes PDA or printout while trying to figure out where the hiding spot is) That and being in the mountains and enjoying hiking in them i have been interested in my altitude changes for a while now and not have had a way o keep track/chart them easily. That and the deal i found came with quite a few acessories that i would probably had to spend extra money on otherwise and it still came out cheaper than an X series! Thank you a for your imput and help, it is greatly appreciated! dougtape
  13. Well I have a tusty old Legend, that i am getting ready to trage for a PDA. i just got a bit carried away on ebay and purchased 2 60CS's but one is going to be sold (hopefully to another geocacher) shortly after i get them both. dougtape
  14. Alright so here goes. I have been reading everything i can these last 3 days about the new units out there. I have decised to stick with Garmin for now since i Love my Legend to death. But i have been made an offer wich requires the aquisition of a new (to me) GPSr. I have been loking at the 60 series pretty heavily, mostly the 60cs and the 60csx I have also looked at the legend C and vista C . I want color in my new unit but afte that i am confused. After playing with a 60Cs the other day I am leaning towards a unit with an altimiter and a compass in it, but after taht i am unsure about getting the X series or not. After reading all of the issues that seem to be not worked out i am wondering if i should save some money now and just get a vista C or 60CS. It sounds that with the SiRFIII there is not much accuracy gained, but reception indoors (which i don't need) is improved, which may come in handy for my tree covered mountains i will be using it in. And then the 60CSX seems to have altimiter issues. I guess what i am trying to ask is does anyone that has used any combnation of the 3 units what is your opinion? I am rather leaning towards the 60cs at the moment. another thing i am unsure about is I am used to holding my GPSr flat due to my patch antenna, how is the 60 series supposed to be oriented up and down or horizontal? also besides andtenna what is the major difference between the vista C and the 60 CS? i can't seem to find many differences anymore. As for mapping the only maps i may forsee using in the near future is the topo maps so the minSD is not a major selling point to me at the moment since i have not loaded any maps in my legend. so any advice is greatly appreciated. sorry if this post is so erratic i am extremely confused right now!!!!! dougtape
  15. Ok so i get a new laptop, and yes i try to get one with a serial port for my gpsr, and a few othr items i use but the one i ended up getting doesn't have it. So i need a USB to serial adaptor. or atleast a good source of one. I tried to search the forums, but the search feature seems to be broken at the moment. any help would be greatly appreciaed. thanks! happy caching dougtape
  16. you find a new boyfriend who would want to cuddle with you while you read the posts on gc.com together. i wonder if we can say "couples that gc.com together stay together"????? dougtape
  17. ahh to enjoy being SINGLE and UNEMPLOYED, there is nothing to get in the way of chaching, except not having your own gpsr. But on a happy not that was remedied the other day, now if i can only await the torture for it to arrive in the mail!!! and then i had to go and get a job, so there goes all my time. So i guess that just leaves me free to be single, and enjoy caching on my way home since the Blue ridge parkway has quite a few cache's on it. wow sometimes it feels good to remind yourself that being single does have its advantages, even if the only person you hve to talk to while chaching is yourself! dougtape
  18. allright aboutt he rebate, i have 2 in my pocket, AND amazon.com put it as a link on the page when I was buying rebate link this is the link it gave me and it is basically a scan of the form i have in my hand! but alas the garmin website did not mention it today. by the way, amazon had it for 159.99 then there is the $30 rebate so i said what the heck! dougtape
  19. Ok here is my question. I am looking at getting a legend. I am seeing the 30 dollar rebate and the fact that not many big retailers are having any in stock for a few months as a big sign that garmin is about to release somethign new. any ideas what, or how comparable it will be? or if the etrex line is just being phased out because of the 70 line and the 60??? i just can't decide to get a legend at a nice rebated price or to hold off. money is an issue though.... so thats why i may want to go ahead and get one now... dougtape
  20. pee with the wind, not into the wind.... and even more importantly, if it has 3 leaves, don't wipe with it!! dougtape
  21. umm, i can help you unload some of those if you want. all i need is one.... trying to borrow one all the time is a hassle so i need to buy a gpsr soon... maybe i should get a job first. nah that would impinge on my caching time. dougtape *wipes the puddle of drool off the desk*
  22. Allright i am posting this here because i want advice from people in this area. I am in the mountains of western north carolina, with lots of trees. just curious as to wether anyone has had any experiences with either a patch antenna or a quad helix antenna being superior in this terrain. It is rather mountinous and there is a high potential for tree cover here, which according to what i have learned aobut both may kind of balance out the advantages to each antenna. so any advice or experience would be appreciated. thanks dougtape
