  1. finding the right backpack is hard! Finding one that will fit the bigger lenses (like the 70-200mm or bigger) is even harder. By the time you find one that's big enough for the camera and lens as well as with a daypack portion, it's going to start getting good sized. You might want to check out the Thinktank line. I hear a lot of good things about them (and a friend loves hers) and am seriously considering one of their bags when I have to get a new one. I've been using Tamrac Evolution 9 for my main backpack. It's big but it'll carry my 5D with the 70-200 or the 100-400 on it plus additional lens(es). It also has a small daypack portion on top (and laptop compartment) that I can put snacks/cache stuff/whatever in it. Tarmac is still around but was bought out and not sure if the quality is still there or not. I have a smaller one that's older but won't hold the larger lenses.
  2. One of my favorite places we've gone is Ft. Bragg area. We camped but there seemed to be quite a few hotels in the area as well. You can enjoy: nice nature walks (and some history here and there) wildlife viewing (last time we saw a bunch of seals!) beaches parks historic cemetaries horse back riding with ocean views scenic drives up the coast A winery that I *think* had wine tasting (definitely has/had a cache) neat rock formations Not really sure what the shopping is like as that wasn't our thing. 3. Definitely gonna have to try for one of these! (or 2.... )
  4. RAM mounts here! I started with the first RAM mount for my Kawi 140 dirtbike and liked it so much I got one for in the truck and just got another base for the UTV. I love that once I had the arm and cradle for the GPS then all I need to get is a base for any additional vehicle. No good picts yet but hopefully once we start getting back out this spring.
  5. I have a Tamrac Adventure 7 backpack. It's a 2 parter with space for the DSLR on the bottom (and an extra lens, flash, or other accessories). A section in front of that to hold batteries, flashcards, cables, etc. and then on the top it has a compartment that you can put other stuff in. The top is large enough we can put snacks, water bottles or such in it or I've put an additional lens in it. We've really been pleased with it. I really wanted something that wouldn't be huge (I'm pretty small) but would handle the DSLR with a 5" lens, another lens, flash, and small accessories as well as lunch, drinks, and/or light jacket. As for cameras, most of the time we just have a little Nikon coolpix that lives in the geobag. It's great for the regular "grab some caches" days as I can't be without a camera but don't always want to take the big one. When it comes to trips with nice scenic hikes/places though, the backpack goes along!
  6. YAY! FINALLY! Managed to get in on these finally. Can't wait to see them in person. Will be interested to see the new ones you come up with too. Thank you!
  7. Bummer! I wasn't able to get to it in time. Hopefully I'll be able to get some if you remint!
  8. Cool! Now where do I find "the store" to order them?
  9. Sure! I will be doing a future run of these coins without the GCF logo on the front as well. I love these! I'll be hoping to get some somehow!
  10. That would be cool! I'd definitely be in line to buy one if a version was available afterwards! []
  11. ooooohh.... I love this one! I've always loved wolves as well. Unfortunately I won't get to geocoinfest.
  12. I must agree with this! I figured they'd be nice but these are bigger and nicer than expected! Even the little box helps set them off from other coins I've bought. My SO even said they're too nice to release! (normally I get 2 of something and send one off!) These are even more special to me as I was lucky as a kid and got to see the Enterprise debut as well as be there for it's "Approach and Landing Test". Later we got to witness a couple non-test landings at Edwards. I just wish I could have seen an actual take off but I guess that won't happen. At least now I have souvenirs from the beginning (a pendant) and the end (the coins). Thank you so much for doing these!
  13. Darn! I was all set to order this but I don't read novels at the computer. I'll be quick to buy if it comes out in paperback though! Guess I'll wait patiently and hope it happens.
  14. Got to my PO box today and the coins and earrings were waiting for me! Definitely glad I ordered the coin and the wolf earrings (which I had to put on ASAP!) Thank you for the cool coin and going through with the earrings!
  15. I had started off with a Garmin 76S. I originally wanted a versatile GPS that I could use for off roading and hiking. I liked the fact that it floated and that I could possibly load maps onto it. I didn't really know anything about GPS units at the time but from the research I did it sounded good. As I talked of getting one, one of my wheeling friends told me about geocaching. Once the unit arrived I figured geocaching would be a good way to learn how to use it before getting back into the boonies! Now the units get used more for geocaching! I have now have the upgraded 76CSX for most of our caching and travels but the 76S is still around and now goes on a RAM mount for dirtbiking/kawi-caching! Figure one of these days I'll get one that does paperless, like maybe that new 78 coming out.... hmmmm....... []
  16. New site design, updated url is now www.cacheaddict.com/reservations-4-1.php and there are earrings also at www.cacheaddict.com/reservations-4-2.php. Mike Woops! Never mind, Found another place to click and got reservations made! YEAH! Thank you!
  17. Now I *REALLY* can't wait! I'll definitely be wanting to reserve a couple!
  18. Finally got to the PO today to get mine and I love them! Thank you for the wonderful coin! The pathtags are cool too!
  19. There was one out near us that we did. The CO wanted everyone to post a recipe online instead of in the cache itself and almost everyone kept to simple recipes. An advantage to having them as part of the online log is that one can go and look at all the recipes at any time or easily print them out, and there's no paper recipe in the cache to get ruined with water.
  20. Ohhhh, I was thinking a set of the wolves as earrings would be cool! If only they were clip ons. I can't get my ears pierced. Gold or Silver studs through the hole in the feather should make them work. looks like I should make some earrings. That would be easy! And if the studs were removable then it would give the option of using other studs at times too. (basically an earring jacket type deal!) Or a french hook should be *really* easy to add if there's a hole at the top like it looks! Howling Moon, bummer on having to go with clips only. (though I think there may be a way to do a conversion. I may have to check!) I didn't get my ears pierced until I was like 22. I saw a pair I wanted *really* bad for a wedding so broke down and took the chance. (use to have some skin issues so wasn't fun for the first few years!)
  21. Ohhhh, I was thinking a set of the wolves as earrings would be cool!
  22. Hi there! Hope someone might be able to help out. We got my dad a Garmin Nuvi 855 for Christmas and he's already gone and did an update on it. While he was doing that he also downloaded the updated map to his computer. Ever since the download he says his computer is running a LOT slower than it had before. He's running Windows XP: Home version service pack 3 downloaded: Garmin City Navigator North America NT2010.30 He's scanned for viruses and such and says he's clear. He also says that the computer has slowed down in general despite the map program running or not. I'm thinking there might be an incompatibility issue but not sure. He doesn't live near me so I can't just go over and see what's happening myself. You guys here are the only ones (other than calling Garmin direct) that I know who know anything about the GPS and computer stuff so figured it was worth a shot in asking! Question 2: He was using MS Streets for his travels since he didn't have a GPS and still has it on his computer but I'm not sure if he can do stuff with that and then out put to the Nuvi. (I'm a machead and use handheld Garmins for hiking, wheeling, and caching - not a Nuvi! ) Any help/suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you!
  23. I'm anxiously awaiting this coin along with everyone else! I also like the idea of the individual feathers being done! (and yeah, add me to the list of wolf fans! ) Hope I don't miss out on this one! I started with geocoins *after* the dreamcatcher ones and am still bummed on that one!
  24. I don't have many coins but I do like to release them! I generally buy 2 of each coin that I like and will keep one and send the other out. Right now I've got a few activated and am waiting to get to the right caches to release them (some to start out according to their goals). I love watching them travel and know each is traveling at a risk of disappearing. It's a risk I'm willing to take and the ones that survive have made up for the ones lost. If one ever does make it back to me then it will stay home and the twin will then be released. I've also got a couple that are activated and attached to my keys. I do have a few that were gifts and I only have 1 of that I'm holding onto at the moment. Don't know if they'll ever get released or not.
  25. I just got these a couple days ago and love them! Haven't had a chance to look at them in the dark after lots of light but will have to soon! Thanks!
