  1. If you don't keep a list somewhere, how do you remember what you have? And even with a list
  2. As for GPS's there the 4 garmin 60s with at least one of them being a 60CSx. I'm the odd man out with a Magellan but they do tend to work better under heavy tree cover than a Garmin with the exception of the 60CSx. Team Sand Dollar
  3. The real question is who has the most coins to different designs. Different designs would be coins that use at least one different mold such as the MIGO TravelTag trackable coins and MIGO GC.Com trackable coins. This would exclude multiple finishes, paint combinations, for special engraving. As a starting point I would put my dads (Buffalo Wings) collection at over 1400 different coins. Team Sand Dollar
  4. Information from the owner to others in our group whom have spoken to him including one person in our group that is a reviewer. Team Sand Dollar
  5. We put together a group of 5 cachers to go out there knowing it would be a pain. Needless to say that we all gave up after a little bit and went for another cache in the area. We went with an 8 foot step ladder and now have been told is probably wasn't tall enough. Didn't even bother to post a DNF on it. To claim a DNF on a cache I feel there should be at least some reasonable expectation that I should have been able to find it. Since there is no reasonable expectation this one was not worthy of a DNF. Of course the owner knows we were there since the other cache was one of his too. Team Sand Dollar
  6. First we believe it to be just stuck in the side of a tree. A better GPS wouldn't help since the hider used a handheld to place it and his other placements that we have found have been a bit off lately too. Team Sand Dollar
  7. I have been seeing a trend lately where a couple of hiders are trying to create caches that are very hard to impossible to find. These range from puzzle that can't be broken without inside information to hides that just are not worth going after. What is the fun in hiding caches that are not meant to be found? And yes I know there is an ignore function. And I know that this latest trend will blow over and these cachers will eventually stop trying to out do each other but in the mean time you end up with caches that just are just not meant to be found. As an example we have a cache in the area that starts with a moderately hard puzzle. But the real problem comes in when you go after the caches. 1) It is 3/4 miles back in a park 2) It is hidden in an area with lots of trees and heavy leaf coverage so satellite coverage is poor. 3) It is a sub-nano type hide. 4) It is way up in a tree. So in summary it requires carrying a large ladder 3/4 mile back in a wooded area with bad coverage to look for a sub-nano that may be up somewhere very high in one of the many tree that are within the search area. 14. My original estimates where based on producing at least 250 sets of these coins. Based on requests (<30) I do not think this is going to happen. As it stands right now the estimated cost for this set will be $35 US, $36 Canada, $40 all others. The difference between the US cost and others reflect the additional 1% paypal fee plus additional postage costs. The postage is based on an 8oz package so if the weight does come in less I will reflect this in the price. This especially holds true non US and Canada packages since the cost $.90 per oz. If you have previously expressed interest in this set but are no longer interested because of cost that is not a problem. Please let me know so I can update my list. I will continue to accept requests for this set up until one week after I receive the proof coins at which time I will put in the order for this coin. Team Sand Dollar
  15. I would generally agree with this and was going with brass when the coins were to be 3mm. When the coins wnet to 5mm the extra cost and weight per coin made going to a zinc-alloy coin the simple choice. Team Sand Dollar
  16. Mistakes do happen. I actually have a coin with 2 different tracking numbers on it. Somehow the mint engraved one on top of the others. You have to turn the coin just right to see each of the engravings. Team Sand Dollar
  17. Most memorable cache for me one for me is the one I was cheated out of. Extremely hard puzzle that had been out for months. Went after it late at night which is out of character for me. In a snow storm. And found it around 12 midnight. Next day the owner archives the cache, deletes my log, and tells me that I found a new cache that he was planning for the exact same location and that he replaced the contained at 12:30AM. He knew I had the coords before I went after it and figured he could tell me he traded out the cache before I found it. Problem is that I found the cache before he claims to have switch it. So he changes his story to say he switched it out the night before. Truth is this cache was never meant to be found anyone other than his girlfriend. Team Sand Dollar
  18. Well there have been a few changes required for this one which will increase its cost. First the main coin will need to be 5mm thick due to the indenting required for the doves and magnet. I will be going with a zinc alloy on the main coin to keep both the cost and weight down since a brass core would cost more and weigh a lot more on such a thick coin. This change is adding additional mold fees, per coin cost due to thickness, and postage increased due to weight. Additionally my estimates were optimistic since I figured I would produce at least 200-300 sets and spread the fixed cost across more coins. I do not have exact cost now but based on only 100 set produced it will but quite higher. I am also looking at putting 5 smaller doves around the magnet instead of the one large dove. This would be in keeping with the story and give it a better appearance. Team Sand Dollar
  19. See that this coin is still selling on EBay for way much more than I am asking I am bumping this thread. I still have some of these available, for trade or purchase, in all 4 finishes. Contact me for trades or multiple purchases. US orders can use the following links for purchase of a single metal finish. MISTY SILVER MISTY GOLD BLACK NICKEL ANTIQUE COPPER Team Sand Dollar
  20. Need some input on this one. I am being told that the coins cannot be made in 3.5mm as originally quoted and will have to be 5mm thick to accept the magnet. On top of that they say the price would need to increased!!! They say they could make the lower coin in zinc-alloy rather than bronze and stay very close to the original 3.5mm price but it would still need to be 5mm thickness. Do I go with brass and get a very heavy coin which increases the price both on base cost and shipping or use the zinc-alloy which will keep the base cost close to the same and hopefully also not increase weight. I am leaning toward the Zinc-Alloy since due to the thickness required it will probably still be heavier than most 1.5" coins. Team Sand Dollar
  21. The Black Nickel works well with the coin. Got some of these to trade. Team Sand Dollar
  22. Got my Guy coins today. (For those that haven't met me I am a guy). I guess I didn't guess at the codes correctly because I wanted orange fish to go in the blue bowl (It's a Gator thing!) but they were yellow. Darn hard to read fonts. The real funny thing is when I looked at the trade coins I got, I noticed they all were silver except HogWild that got gold....well except for mine. All of mine were done in black nickel. Anyone else get a different metal. Team Sand Dollar
