  1. The trophies sound neat! What part of Walmart can I find them at? Are they part of another larger toy? I hope you don't mind me wanting to use your idea!
  2. I was just looking into doing this myself, but I gave up. The macros out there for GSAK are top notch and I don't think I come come close to creating something so clean. If you don't want to cough up the money for GSAK, I would reconsider. It is a terrific application and the developer is very active. If you don't use Windows like me, just install VirtualBox. Good luck
  3. Hello, First, I must say that your macro is great. Thanks for writing it! I have a question though. I am a Linux user and don't want to maintain a XP virtual machine to run GSAK just to get good-looking POIs on my Nuvi. Do you have a template which is stripped of GSAK code for turning a gpx or csv file into one that fits the character limit that the nuvis require? Thanks for any help!
  4. That is not quite what I was looking for, but thanks for your post for trying to help
  5. Hello, I have been using GSAK to output POI info to my Nuvi 205 using the excellent macro by Pilotsnipes located here http://pilotsnipes.googlepages.com/index.html I am a Linux user, so running GSAK in a virtual XP environment is getting to be kind of annoying. I was wondering if anyone knows any good formatting scripts to get the POI output from gpsbabel to be even half as good as the one by pilotsnipes. Any help would really be appreciated! PS- If your answer is to write one myself, I am looking into it, but I was wondering if someone already has written one.
  6. Of course It is popular for geocaching and the price is great. I also use a Nuvi to get me near the cache, then I get out with my Etrex and begin the hunt on foot.
  7. Not well at all. Look at a Etrex Vista HCx. I got mine for 160 and totally love it.
  8. The same thing is happening to mine as well. I am going to call them tomorrow. I got mine in December of last year.
  9. Don't forget the anarchists! *ducking*
  10. This is good to know. I just collected about 6 of them from Dell server box and thought I'd give them a try. I won't bother now. Thanks guys
  11. My intent is not to hijack this thread, but on the subject of agendas, would it be wrong to remove a religious object from a cache if I discover one? For example, I have spotted several pamphlets and wooden nickles which speak of christian beliefs. Isn't that an agenda? I understand that Groundspeak cannot control what people put into caches, but shouldn't this be against the rules as well? I am not trying to troll. This is a serious question. Thanks!
  12. Mailboxes are considered federal property, and federal law (Title 18, United States Code, Section 1705), makes it a crime to vandalize them (or to injure, deface or destroy any mail deposited in them). Violators can be fined up to $250,000, or imprisoned for up to three years, for each act of vandalism. Man I am SO screwed for all of those teenage games of mailbox baseball.
  13. I thought it was just me! I was getting ready to update my gpses but I didn't get my email yet. I guess I will just be patient Thanks
  14. Thanks! I guess I figured it would be more intuitive from the find menu. You have saved me from ripping what is left of my hair out.
  15. DOUBLE POST. Sorry, the forum was hanging. Please delete
  16. This thread is worth the yearly membership price alone.
  17. I am very new to this hobby. At first I just got a Etrex Vista HCx. Then I realized that I needed a routing GPS to get me to the site, so I had to get a Nuvi 205. After hearing about going paperless, I quickly aquired a PocketPC. Realizing that the battery life wouldn't cut it, I got a Palm Tungsten. Then I got an ipod and of course had to get the geocaching application. Please bear in mind that i've only found THREE caches and i've only spent a few hours actually out in the field! I think I read too many posts on here and it just keeps me buying more and more! lol PS - I also just got an eeepc for caching too. LOL
  18. Nice vid. I do think that PVC cement would probably be better for this application though. Thanks man!
  19. X2! 30 bucks is nothing for the amount of information that this site provides and how feature-rich it is.
  20. I have a Nuvi 205 and it is perfect for getting there, plus it is supported by GSAK
  21. On my second hunt ( I just started this hobby) I found out the hard way, that you always need to bring a change of clothes. I went behind my office in what I thought would be a quick cache in the woods by the stream turned out to be a FULL faceplant into the stream. I was soaking wet from head to toe. It is a very good thing that these handheld gpses are waterproof! The look on my boss's face when he saw me sloshing in was priceless.
  22. Thanks for this post! I had the exact same question. This forum alone is worth the 30$ membership in the time it saves me!
  23. Congrats! I too just found my first one recently. It is funny how addicting this game is!
