  1. I have found that if any of the camo tape or the plastice bag inside cross the gasket water will get inside. Looks like i see the bag sticking out. Nope, just a little of the tape that was trimmed after I took pics and grumped that the cliff face gave me a +/- 30ft reading.
  2. Send the FTF a bill for the emotional distress they inflicted by finding it so quickly.
  3. Where do you get those? It looks very useful. Thanks in advance, Griz I found this one at Target, but most hardware stores have them. It's a portable key safe.
  4. Here was me thinking they'd gone and got all super creative and cast their own bump stop as a cache Not a bad idea actually. Might pinch that if it hasnt already been done I thought they camouflaged the cache as the oil slick on the pavement.
  5. All my caches are going to PMO when I deploy to minimize how often I need to rely on a caching friend to maintain them, and give added protection. I have one that I might keep on PMO because of its location- limited parking, on a city right-of-way surrounded by multiple levels of muggles.
  6. Do you have any friends/family or know any other cachers in the area? If you do, you've got a local contact for helping maintain the cache when you can't get there. I've been debating hiding another cache before I deploy, but I have 2 geocaching friends that stepped up and told me they'll help maintain my caches while I'm gone.
  7. I wouldnt hand someone a FTF, that needs to be earned. When I hid my first cache earlier this month I knew the family who introduced me to geocaching wouldnt be getting to the site for at least 5 days and with the FTF-racers in the area it would be logged, but I gave them the cache ID in an email exchange. And with all the FTF-racers I'm tempted to hike 6 miles up the trail that's had 2 people fall to their deaths off the cliffs within the last month and leave a cache out there.
  8. What about an exception for Virtual caches in Iraq? There are many archeological wonders that could be found by both the military and civilian geocacher.

  10. Oh man, that's awesome. I always wanted someone to send a virus to my GPS and wipe it clean!
  11. Yeah, some people just need to complain about caches or act superior. I hid the medium of the 3-size lock-n-lock set and had it listed as a Small cache, which it is, and still got a complaint from the FTF that the cache was smaller than they thought it would be. I even listed the dimensions of the container on the cache page! Right now I'm using the smallest of those lock-n-locks as a holder of TBs, geocoins and swag.
  12. Got one of these for $7 the other day: I've got a log inside a bison tube in it, now to get some camo tape and find a place to hide it.
  13. If they dont sign the logbook in the cache then delete their log entry on your cache page. That's what I plan on doing with my cache next time I run maintenance on it.
  14. I've got an event in the planning stages for 03 May 2009 in Portland, OR to form the Alpha Company, 1st Trackables Battalion to deploy with the Oregon National Guard to Iraq. 2PM local time, World Cup of Coffee & Tea, corner of NW Glisan & NW 18th Ave. More info once the event is published.
  15. Another method might be to get some of the cheap $2-3 contact lens cases, cut them apart and trim the extra plastic off.
  16. Hopefully I'll be able to get in on a MAGC event while I'm deployed. I'm lucky that my Sr Medic and my XO geocache, so we should be able to get some caches while over there as a team.
  17. Having a military ID, I've never had any problems with TSA, Boarder Patrol, or Homeland Security. Northern Utah: I was taking pictures outside of a missile construction facility, Homeland Security asked to see ID, then said to have a nice day. Later that same day in central Idaho: taking pictures outside a nuclear research facility. Same thing: asked to see ID, bid me a good day. Travel for Thanksgiving and Christmas at several airports: 2 GPS devices, using them before and after security. Not even a blink. Boarder btwn Seattle and Vancouver: never been searched, just asked where I'm going and where I'm from. Not even what I'm doing! Now that I'm getting started on Geocaching, I think I'll try to stay paperless as much as possible. Stealth Ninja Geocaching.
