  1. If you don't get a response, why would you leave the container there to be destroyed? Why not pick it up and log a NA so it can be reused? Why does it have to be an NA? Couldnt it be an NM?
  2. hmm. I'll have to put this on my bucket list. I could see me spending a week or two some summer doing this.
  3. I once did 90 in 7 hours solo-caching on gravel roads.
  4. I printed out listing when I first started but quickly evolved to using GSAK and a short print-out of info on the caches I would be looking for. Saves me printer costs: ink, paper. Plus the added benefit of placing caches into lists for potential road trips was a big lure.
  5. For $3000, I'll drive you to any cache you want in Iowa.
  6. In 2010 when Geowoodstock bussed people in to hike for the Project APE Cache I saw a lot (a few tons?) of geocachers that were really out of shape and looked like they might have a coronary. Most were your average obese American. Some were mega-obese.
  7. One of my favorite caches in Portland was at a neighborhood compost bin that had a cabinet nearby for a book exchange.
  8. Found caches in 62 of Iowa's 99 counties. Found caches in 32 of Iowa's 52 DeLorme pages. Attended MOGA 2012 and Geowoodstock 10. Found caches in 7 of the states listed (KS and WI are on this year's list) Found 570 caches. Solved a bunch of puzzles and solving more this winter to find in the spring. Personal goal: road RAGBRAI, increased debt, finalized divorce.
  9. I walked 14 miles with over a mile change in elevation to get a virtual cache once.
  10. 2013 Geocache Goals: 1. Find 250 unknown/mystery caches 2. Finish finding caches in the last 37 Iowa counties and 20 Iowa DeLorme pages. 3. Add a few more states to the states-cached list. 4. Find caches while biking RAGBRAI again this year. 5. Put out caches along one of the bike trails. 6. Place a multi in Iowa that is as long and complicated as The Day of The Dead GCF260
  11. seems to be that most of them are heterosexual, too Do you go around at events asking that question? I might be known to evaluate the crowd for potential dates.
  12. Probably the most famous endangered bird in the world is a vulture, the California Condor. When I was a kid it was the bald eagle.
  13. I have a complete set of 12-12-12 souvenirs.
  14. seems to be that most of them are heterosexual, too
  15. If I recall correctly, there was a cache a few thousand of us got during Geowoodstock this year on a bridge crossing the Ohio River.
  16. Hmm.. now I'm thinking how to use the security caps at work to make a geocache.
  17. One of the cities that I lived in in Oregon told me they do not allow geocaches in their parks when I contacted them for permission... there were over 80 geocaches in their parks at that time.
  18. Really miss my caching partners from Oregon. I haven't found any caching partners since I moved back to Iowa. My 90-cache day the other day could have easily been over 100 if I had caching partners to motivate me after lunchtime. Some of my best caching partners weren't even geocachers. In Iraq I had a couple of gunners on our convoys that would go geocaching with me. I'd be looking in the usual spots while they'd be monkeying around, climbing the HESCO Barriers and T-walls thinking the caches would be up there. Made for great fun.
  19. Usually if I am going to be traveling to an area and there is a cache that looks interesting with several DNFs or the CO has temp-disabled then I'll post a note to the cache to ask the status. There's no reason for me to post a NM on a cache outside of my current caching-zone unless I have searched for it.
  20. I've found several caches placed on bridges. In fact, a few thousand of us found one on the middle of a bridge over the Ohio River at Geowoodstock X this summer.
  21. Unvalidated passes for the local bus/lightrail/streetcar/airtram were always my favorite when I was caching in Portland.
  22. Eh, I dont care if I get WNV. I already lost my family to SARS and Bird Flu.
  23. Yes, I ended up going with a team from Cherokee- Team Bitch & Moan. With the high heat and the 2 days of headwinds my goal of 1 cache per town turned into 1 cache per county and then that even turned into 1 cache per county previously unfound. :-) I knocked off 9 more counties for the Iowa 99 County Challenge. Plus a few more DeLorme pages.
  24. My ex only allowed me to get one cache in Amsterdam, but I highly recommend it. It's right in front of the main train station. Thousands of people walking past you while you nonchalantly find a cache makes you feel much like some sort of Cold War spy making a drop. :-) Also: several of the caches in the tourist areas of the city center have dutch descriptions followed by english descriptions, just have to scroll down.
