  1. Very easy to use and yes, it's the GPSMap60C
  2. Selling a 10 month old Garmin 60C - still using the original batteries, in mint condition. Comes with car adapter and neoprene carry case. I have no complaints about the 60C as it is a versatile color GPS capable of many things. Unfortunately I need to upgrade to a fixed mount unit for my boat in order to take advantage of the DSC positioning feature found only on Standard Horizon VHF's. Asking $300. If interested, please send mail to jms_tci@hotmail.com
  3. I am looking for your suggestions on which ram mount to get for my 60C. I need one which either mounts via suction cup or the stick on type- the mount will not be moved once in place but I don't want to so the screws thing. I need the mount to stand up roughly 6 inches from the base and then hold the 60C at adjustable angles. I've checked out the ram site but have not had much luck navigating in order to find what I need. The mount will go on the console of my boat and will sit behind my fish finder with the 60c being stationed just above the fish finder- so the ram mount will almost be hidden behind the fish finder. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -Joe
  4. Thanks for the answer. I think I know what I did wrong: The maps on my 60c area ll from V5. I need to go back into the desktop and make a new file with the latest version. Thanks again. -Joe Update: Just did the transfer with new version and the 60c now shows only maps from V6.
  5. I purchased V5 and was sent the upgrade a few weeks later. Now that V6 is installed on my desktop, can I delete V5 which shows up in Mapsource along side V6? The reason I ask is because on my 60c, when I am in Map setup, the screen is not wide enough to tell me if I am selecting V5 or V6. Thanks in advance. fwiw- the instructions with Blue Charts are weak. Can't figure out how to use the routing function. When I try to, it gives a land error message even though I only have Blue Charts active in Map Setup.
  6. Problem solved! IBM had the comm port disabled in the bios. Once I fixed this, it worked using all the garmin products I own. Cool feature for in car/boat navigation with a laptop.
  7. I am going to make a call into Garmin this morning to ask if my old GPS lll can be used in conjunction with a PC for real time tracking- does anyone know if this is possible? If so, are there certain garmin software products which it will and will not work with? I may need to make the call regardless- I can't seem to get the PC to recognize the GPS lll and it's set to Garmin/Host mode. Thanks in advance. -Joe
  8. Seems like my desktop PC may have a USB conflict. It took me 45 minutes to download maps to my 60C today. Is there a way for me to check this or troubleshoot it? I have Windows 98 on the machine. Thanks in advance. Joe
  9. Mo- really looking to keep everything together.
  10. Looking to sell the following: I have a Garmin GPSIII and a IBM Pentium II color thinkpad. I have never used it for in car navigation but I bet it would make a nice set up- I think you just need a serial cable to hook up the GPSIII to the laptop- never did this before because the GPSIII can't store maps on its own. If anyone is looking for a setup like this, let me know as I will let them both go for a relatively low price. I have the manual for the GPSIII and a mountain bike mounting bracket.
  11. The title should be GPSIII-and it should be in the "Garage Sale Section"sorry about that. I now have 3 laptops and two hand-held GPS units and was going to give a set up to my dad but he does not want it. I have a Garmin GPSIII and a IBM Pentium II color thinkpad. 12. Lets just hope MSFT never buys them Imagine that
  13. Olar- thanks for the info. Sorry- HH was for Hand Held. Its a GPSIII Thanks for the info. But after all that, my dad told me this evening that he probably does not want it because he's already got the external chart plotter out at the helm.
  14. With the new 60C I was all set to sell my old GPSIII but decided to give the GPSIII, along with an old IBM color thinkpad to my dad so he can use on his boat. Does anyone have experience hooking a HH to a laptop? Does it work well? Also, I have bluecharts on my PC and 60C. Since I would not be downloading the maps to the GPSIII, can I still load the blue-charts onto the laptop and use the GPSIII to show where I am on the map without having to use another unlock code? Maybe I am pipe-dreaming but it sounds like a cool idea if I can pull it off. BTW- the laptop would be inside the boat at all times:) Thanks in advance! JJ
  15. After you paste it in, make sure you do a "save as" so you now have all the waypoints, routes and selected maps in one file. Now you can use this as your master file and add/delete fromt here what you want on you handheld. If you have a trip coming up to a far off place, simply add your waypoints on a new map, do a "save as" (like "save as" "Montreal trip" ) so you can cut and paste the info into the master file and delete it after your trip. Sounds confusing but it works for me.
  16. Mine had done this a couple of time while auto-routing. But I did take it on a 300 mile (each way) trip to Montreal this weekend and it worked without a hitch. Not only did it work great but all my buddies were impressed when it got us to a great steak house in Old Montreal. It was snowing and the street signs were covered with snow. That and the one way streets would have made it impossible to find at night. The 60C took us right to the doorstep!!!
  17. I ran it for a while and did not have any problems. Then I purchased blue charts so I un-installed the stand-alone tide program.
  18. My PC will not recognize the USB port every now and them. I've tried unplugging 60c and plugging in my digital camera and it still does not work. I re-boot the Pc and keep the 60c plugged in and on and it fixes it every time. Don't know if its a Windows 98 thing or not...
  19. I actually like the one in the catalog better than mine because mine does nto have the grip material on the sides.
  20. I went into City Select and picked several maps I wanted on my 60c for the first run. After I picked them and loaded to 60c, I did a "Save As" and named it "Maps1" on my PC. So next time I wanted to load a few new regions but wanted to keep the old on the 60c I simply went into City Select, opened "Maps1" (the saved file) and then proceeded to open the new regions. I hit the save tab (saved to Maps1) and loaded them into the 60c again. So now my 60c has all the maps I have ever wanted to load from day one. If next time I want to delete one region and add another, I'll open "Maps1" and delete the regions I don't want, add the new regions, save it, and then load it. This works great for me but I would be curious to find out if there is another way- I am a bit new to all this. btw- I also have a saved "Tracks1", "waypoints1" and "routes1" files and do more or less the exact same thing wiith them.
  21. 4x- I have also had my 60C crash a few times while following a route on the road. I have not tried it since the new firmware install so I hope this helps.
