  1. When I say "folder", i mean in your gps ,not your pc. Dont know how else to describe it. sorry if its confusing.
  2. If you re wanting to use it for caching, use poi loader . Its makes a new icon in your find menu called " custom POI s" you can load all caches into this folder and subcatorigize them into different folders. Then save them individually as you need them. The gps will automatically send them to your geocache list. All "custom POI s "are separated from all other pois. That way you can delete all regular poi s if you want to.
  3. I use a hcx . Love it . Works great . User friendly. Always keeps good signal in deep tree cover , even indoors! That being said. Wish i had a pn-40 ! For aerial photos and satellite imagery. Garmin won t do it! I hunt more than i cache , sure would be nice to have. Somethin to think about.. Can t speak of delorme ac curacy or signal keeping abilities, but i ve heard its pretty good.
  4. Don t know that it will work that way. The card is just used for maps. The gps will hold a ton of caches or waypoints on its own. Just plug up the unit to the usb and download away. I personally use poi loader for caches. You can save thousands to your poi folder and sub categorize them into seperate folders (by cities or areas for example). This way you always have all caches in any area and don t have to download them again ever. When you get to your favorite cachin area you can go to poi folder and save them individially to your cache folder. Just use the geocache symbol when saving and it will send them to the cache folder instead of waypoints .
  5. x= xpandable memory. which is nice for maps. C=color, which is pleasant for the eyes. H= High sensitivity receiver. Which is most essential for caching ! It wont lose signal in heavy tree cover. The only real difference between these units is the little letters attached to the end of the name! What ever you buy, make sure it has a H behind it, or you ll regret it.
  6. I go about it a little different than most , I think. I cache with the wife. She has a blackberry with internet access. I run the gps and she runs the blackberry. We get done with a cache, we can log the find before ever leaving the site. Then on to the next! Quite simple with two people. I just download all caches within any area we might go to my poi folder before we leave.
  7. When you go to setup>map>then move over to information. I there not the Ibycus section of map int he drop down box ? If its not , scroll down to find it. Make sure it has a check beside it or it won t show up on gps.
  8. Had an old etrex yellow. Upgraded to vista hcx few months ago. Love it ! User friendly, accurate, keeps signal while being carried in pocket, great price for what you get. I hunt more than i cash and it works great for me. Just wish it would run aerial imagery. If moneys no option, the pn-40 seems pretty sweet . Not sure about the oregon or colorados.
  9. Ok hermit, if you re out there. Mapwel works great. So much more user friendly than moagu. Managed to get aerial photo of my property onto my vista hcx. USELESS !!!! Takes a day and a half for the gps to do any drawing , then, when its finally done, its to washed out to see any thing , even on highest map detail and at 800 ft. I Give Up ! Should have got a Pn-40 !!!!
  10. I ve been using the same unit for several months. From what I can tell, unfortunately, Yes. This is about the only complaint i have with this unit. Every time its powered up, it has to be adjusted . Sucks.
  11. Mapwel will do this, I've not used it, yet. On my to do list. Why not run the free demo and tell us what you think. ok. Thanks think i ve tried every software but that one . thanks . I ll check it out !
  12. Got a vista hcx ! Guess i should ve checked that out first!
  13. Anyone out there had any luck at georeferencing aerial photos and installing them on gps ? I know its possible. It sure would be useful for me . Just seems real difficult and not sure if my gps can keep up ! Anyone help on this would be great ! Thanks.
  14. Ok , thanks . I ll check out it out. Just figured out a simple way to get what i want. Open easy gps, go to edit all geocaches then fill in the name slot with the name . Then resave the file . Then resend through poi loader , and it works ! All names instead of POI,POI,POI,POI,POI,POI !!! thanks for the help !
  15. To any and all techies listening . please help. Im using garmin poi loader to load geocaches to my vista hcx. Not having a problem loading or anything. what im trying to figure out is how, or can I get the geocache ID or name in file instead of POI? I download a gpx file with poi loader , databases are named correctly, but when opened, all points are labeled POI. Been using waypoint or geocache for caching ,but POI seems more efficient if i could get it the way i want it. Any help would be really appreciated!
  16. Have you checked it with Google earth ? I use vista hcx for caching, had a few caches that were that far off. Thought it might be the unit . picked a spot on google earth, marked the coord. Vista took me straight to it every time! The ability of the hider to log coord. can give seekers fits ! Thats what i would try. or try some more caches. Im scared of updates ! always hear bad stories!
  17. For anyone out there looking for a new unit , maybe x mas gift or something. Its 12/14/08 and wal mart.com is selling vista hcx for $190.00 & 60csx for $260.00 . CHEAPEST PRICES Ive ever seen for those two !
