  1. Definitely a difficult question, but right now I am going to have to say my "Four Dragons Big Dipper" geocoing which I use to log my miles and adventures.
  2. Give me a day and I will size an image to show front and back.
  3. This is an interesting idea that I might have to consider. I have several real coins floating around at the moment as well as two that are "Spirits" of the Geocoin. The latter are experiments to see how well they do. They feature the front of the coin on the front and the back on the back as well as are in a form I put together with the hope of trying to make them more interesting. I will be curious to see how they continue to do. If I use them again, it will likely only happen when I have one go missing in the wild to keep it alive. Another thought I have had is to have a replacement TB tag made with the number and attach it to an object with a similar theme as the original coin, marking it well as such in the description but using as a TB from then out. That said, I enjoy geocoins and love holding the real thing. I will NOT hold it against someone who uses copies to protect or replace originals as I completely understand the cost that goes into it ... as well as the pain of having them stolen. ----------- Here is a question I have for those who are against copies ... Have you sent geocoins out into the wild yourself? Do you personally have any circulating around the world?
  4. As I understand it, travel bugs (officially) are the tags that are produced by Groundspeak (owners of Geocaching.com) and is a copyrighted item. Geocoins are trackable coins that come in all shapes and sizes, but can be produced by others. There are some geocoins (like the travel slug and travel express) that are coins but are meant to be used just like a regular travel bug and should be considered as such. To answer your question, leave the item attached to it and refer to the mission listed on the travel slug's page to see what direction or goal the owner set for it.
  5. I have a great fondness for the Little Dipper constellation. The fact that the money goes to a cause I can really get behind pushed me over the edge. Had to have one at that point.
  6. Had to go back and purchase one more of the Birka AE as a gift for a friend living in Germany.
  7. Regarding Forum #1 and this thread here ... We are not talking about a virtual bug here (which is a number posted online that would be posted at random by people who see the number in the cyber world) as he is putting what amounts to a replacement bug (physical even in the form of a copy) in the cache he is creating. As long as he is identifying it as such in the title on the page for the Geocoin, I don't see a problem with it. Person seeking will know even before they travel to the location (if they just read what is in front of them) and can decide if just seeing a copy of the coin will do or not. Consider it a travel bug dog tag on a cache that isn't going anywhere. ... You can discover it but not move it.
  8. This is the way I am doing it. I activate all the coins I bring into my collection, but I have a few coins that I just ordered for trading (just starting up) that are duplicates of some I am buying for myself. Those for trading will be set to the side. But if I accept a trade, as long as the coin is in good condition, I don't mind adopting it as I agree ... it is sometimes neat to see a history with it.
  9. Geocoinshop.de has an achievement coin that you have the member name, number and date engraved on the coin. It would definitely work for what you are wanting. CLICK HERE TO CHECK IT OUT
  10. You know, my wife is NOT going to be happy with me as I stumbled across this thread last night and soon found myself ordering two copies. Some addictions we have to learn to live with.
  11. Both of these are outstanding ideas. I will definitely have to give both a try!!! Thanks for the ideas.
  12. As a cache owner, I quickly began to feel it my responsibility that if someone marks a trackable item as missing from one of my caches to go out, verify and mark it as missing if not present. If someone is on something like an extended vacation later, they can still take possession with no problems.
  13. All you people are doing is feeding my new obsession and causing me to go out and purchase MORE!!! I keep seeing some posted here that I really like. Thanks to the person who thought of this thread in the first place!
  14. Just pre-ordered one of the Birka AE and two of the Birka Foggy Silver. Can't wait to get them as the design looks incredible!!! My hat is off to the artist!
  15. I always seem to hold my breath as my coins travel from one cache to another. I love geocoins, but they seem to becoming harder and harder to find in the wild. A note ... I geocached Hilton Head Island while on vacation last week. It seemed everywhere I went there were coins and other traveling items listed in inventory at the various caches. Never once did I see anything listed in inventory actually in the cache while I was there. Hopefully, people were just late in logging, but I started to wonder if someone was moving along and cleaning em out.
  16. When I returned home from vacation a couple of days ago, I found my the Mariner's Astrolabe Geocoin I had purchased by presale from CoinsandPins.com. I love it!
  17. I would use it and probably feel better about trading as well as who I am trading with.
  18. My hat is off to you as the design looks incredible! I have order two of the green on gold and was order #111!
