  1. Thanks very much for your reply, I love the idea of the photo hunt, I think this may be a better idea. Maybe we'll try a combination of these ideas. You're right about the sharing, we thought maybe an adult could take control of the GPS or maybe we could get more than one. Jay.
  2. I think we're going to organise a birthday 'geocaching party' for our son who will be 7 at the end of May. Our basic idea is to parcel up the party lunch, hoist it up into a tree or similar, invite 6-7 party guests and get the children to find it using it's co-ordinates. We could incorporate some kind of teasure hunt aspect with puzzles maybe... Has anyone done this before and if so did the kids enjoy it and have you any top tips? Anyone have any thoughts on what would make this work better or additions that would make it even more fun for 6/7-yr-olds?? Thanks, Jay.
  3. Thanks for the help folks, its the first TB we've let loose. This is where I dropped it, the first log against the TB: http://www.geocaching.com/track/log.aspx?L...d0-ed6ab8203d0c I remember it not looking right, as I then did post a note: http://www.geocaching.com/track/log.aspx?L...a3-6e8a23cf800b As of now its back in the Shaftoe Crag inventory and hopefully fleetwood1977 will be able to do a retrieve and drop off in the right cache as suggested. Thanks again.
  4. Hi, fleetwood1977 has got my TB stuck in his inventory: "Sorry I have tried again but it will not move out of my inventory. I have posted a note as to where it is but canot remove it from my inventory, Any suggestions." TB2JV6Q is the ref number, I originally activated it at GC9E0A and its now at GC19TR2. Can anyone help and suggest what's gone wrong? It seem like there might have been something wrong from the outset.. Thanks.
  5. I'm getting better PDF results using the new print feature and CutePDF Writer than with the previous PDF pages I can transfer the pdfs into my phone and zoom right into the Ordnance Survey maps (thanks Greasemonkey!) and stay paperless Now if only I could get the PDFs into my phone automatically from a PQ GPX...
  6. If you use Geocache Navigator you need the site to be up for it to get the cache details down, no PQ or loading up of waypoints (currently). But it would be bad planning to head out without a list of coords for the caches you're looking for since you can't rely on there being cell reception.
  7. Here's a Greasemonkey script I wrote to give a link to the Weather Underground site on the cache page, passing across the lat/lon of the cache to give you current conditions and all the other good stuff from the nearest weather station. Useful in the weather-obsessed UK http://www.consultbrady.ltd.uk/weather_und...nd_at_g.user.js Hope you find it useful
  8. Exactly, that's why 'bad planning' doesn't come into it I have responsibility for a number of live web sites - I wouldn't ever suggest that a customer was guilty of bad planning if they try to use the site when there's unplanned downtime
  9. An alternative view would be that the most important aspect of this is that the site is down, and customers cannot use a service for which they've paid. To quote 'bad planning' is ridiculous when it comes to a web site where one can expect it to be mostly available. I don't deny that Groundspeak staff need sleep but there is also an expectation amongst customers that the site will be up.
  10. Hi, I've agreed with Nige (The Northumbrian) to take over Written Crag (GC3466) and I've been up at the weekend to swap out the cache, but Nige has had trouble with the adoption page and after a couple of failed attempts I don't want to keep hassling the guy. Can an admin help? e.g. send him a mail and ask him to confirm its ok then adopt it over to me? Thanks, kb
  11. I have a Nokia E51 with external Bluetooth GPS (QStarz) and use a combination of Geocache Navigator, UTM Data, Google Maps for Mobile, GPSGate depending on what I'm doing, and I've also got my own Ordnance Survey OpenSpaces pages to get detailed maps. I send myself the coordinates/cache page of any caches I think might be out of range of the phone signal and sync my mail before I leave the house. I still carry paper maps and a compass of course
  12. Challenge accepted Being a new cacher (first find was on 7th December) and also trying to regain some fitness I'm equally keen to get out of the house and do the walking as I am finding the tupperware in the woods I've got my eye on this one as I'm not very familiar with Hexhamshire. I'll drag the family up there too. I've visited a few of your caches (3 in the last week I think, Dipton Wood today!) and particularly enjoyed Warden Hill during a lunchbreak last thursday which did mean I was a little delayed getting back to work that day, but I'm fortunate to have flexible working. Thanks for the caches!
