  1. We're not very impressed with all these storms though! . Ahh come on!!! Midwestern storms are the BEST! Your not afraid of a little rain, a little wind, and a few claps of thunder are you? I have a friend from California that moved a few years ago to Texas that FREAKED OUT over some to the weather around here. It was funny. Edited for typos We spend the winters in the Palm Springs area (SoCal) We never see thunder storms. We'll take one of our little "shakers" over these storms anytime! We are enjoying our time here. It is nice to see all the green.
  2. We were just at a few of those caches last weekend. many of them are along highway 12 in northern Ne. The Three Amigos and Plainsdrifter358 are the cache owners. We didn't look into this part but from the cache pages it appears that there is a passport type way of getting stamped at several of the sites. I am sure that if you contacted the cache owners they could explain that part to you. I have made a bookmark list that you can find on the various L & C PVT Shannon cache pages GCGAEX Thanks for that info. I'll check it out. We are volunteers at the Gavins Point Fish Hatchery for the summer. We are having a great time exploring the area. We're not very impressed with all these storms though! Thanks again for the help, I'll check out your bookmark, and contact the cache owners.
  3. This is directed to those in SE South Dakota/NE Nebraska. I am in the Yankton area for the summer and have heard of a cache "trail" about Pvt. Shannon. Is there info. where I can find the series of caches? I have searched out a few of the caches, but it seems there are a series. I understand the trail takes you around to several interesting little towns in the area. Any info., help, I would be grateful.
  4. I don't know about the palm apps. But, I downloaded the pilotsnipes macro and am running it smoothly on my nuvi, with vista.
  5. I have been fussing with this for a couple of weeks off and on, to get it to work. Maybe it had something to do with a new computer running vista. I don't know. But, I kept trying different things and today Bingo! It works just fine. I, like many other have said, greatly appreciate the work you put into this. The other day while out caching with a pile of papers blowing around in the wind, I got to get this Macro thing to work!! I did! Thanks again for you efforts. desertrver
  6. Thanks for the nice comments. I have to throw this little tidbit in about the wife "muggles". When we get to the cache area, she helps me look, for about 30 seconds maybe. Then she finds a rock or something to sit on and wait. I'm scrambling around looking behind, around, over, under every rock and bush. There she sits, occasionally lifting her head up from her Soduko(sp) She will say "what's that little "thingy" over there in those rocks"? Dang! I hate when she does that!
  7. I'm still fairly new at this, but having a great time. I read alot of posts about the Good, Bad, Ugly. For me it's been all good. My wife and I enjoy getting out and hiking. Caching is a great way to add a little adventure to a hike. Weather or not we have good luck caching doesn't really matter in the end. Although it is fun to fill out a couple of logs. A big day for us is hiking for a few miles and looking for two to four caches. Most of the time we are finding them, at times it is an adventure. For example, yesterday we went out (we live in the SoCal desert area) in the desert armed with my Garmin, and info sheet (not yet paperless). I had several caches in mind to try. A half mile or so out we came to an area with a large rocky hill. I knew there was a cache on top along the ridge, that had been logged a few days before. I asked the wife (Muggles), she enjoys the hiking but not really into the caching, if she was up to a climb? A side note, we are in fair shape, in our early 60's. She said go for it. We did, it was quite a climb, around the rocks, slipping, sliding. We did find the cache, signed the log and then looked for a way down. We didn't want to go back the way we came up because of the loose rock and steep. We took another way down and it was rough. We both had a really difficult time getting down, skinned up a bit. Maybe shouldn't have done that. It was a little adventure that we will remember and talk about for at least a few days. We went on to find a couple more caches, hiked around enjoying our desert mountains. Left to go back home to lick our wounds, laughed about our adventure. Muggles says no more climbing! Planning the next one. A great Day!
  8. Whoa! somehow sent two posts, don't know how to delete one. That's why I do more "listening" than "talking". That has served me well over the years as a rule.
  9. I'M In! Not quite my group yet, but currently 53 in the over 70's. God Bless Ya!!
  10. Hello All! I am new to Geocaching, I have been reading the forms, and other info. I think I am at the point where I need to get out with my GPS and see how all this works. It seems like a lot of fun. My Vista HCx is in the mail (yes I got the Wal-mart deal) I have an older street pilot I use for Hwy Nav. What else am I going to need for maps, etc. I have been reading about Topo Maps and such. Are there free downloadable maps that will work? Please give any and all advice. Thanks
