  1. Quite the contrary....it's the good caches that get my efforts when it comes to logging. I don't say much about the lame ones, and that says enough. Speaking of balls, why don't you come on out from behind your sock and make yourself known.
  2. You have my deepest sympathies. It sounds painful and traumatic.
  3. You are most definitely going to be an asset to this game/sport. Welcome to the club.....Happy Caching.
  4. Well, heck. If I stumbled upon a wet snouted pig in the woods, who was holding a Tupperware bowl full of golf balls, and he gave a hearty "HELLO", I'd certainly turn tail and run.
  5. I am eagerly and impatiently awaiting the antennae balls. When are we gonna get them. Huh, huh, huh? Pleeeeeeeze hurry. Cute ain't it! I can't wait for this one too. (Hint hint, nudge nudge.) Awww, that's a cutie. I like the fact that it is something that only cachers will understand, like a secret handshake. When you see one of those on the street or parked somewhere, you know you've encountered a cacher. But to a muggle, it's just a frog with a strange yellow knob on his head.

  7. I"m getting the "object reference" blah blah only when I try to view profiles. It's fine otherwise...a little slow, but fine.
  8. I believe that is precisely why OT is not free here. There's lots of other places we can go to do that. This sight is for geocaching. If you want to go off topic, TPTB accomodated that, but it's not free.
  9. Hey, welcome to geocaching. I cut my caching-teeth on LarsThorwald caches and I love them. Geek College, Gamble House, Vertigo. I think your logs are fine, although there MIGHT be a little too much info in a couple of them. "I looked over a wall" and "I looked up and there it was". It sorta gives the general location away. But I can't say I've been pure in this regard myself. As long as you make a conscious effort not to give away details, you should be fine. And yes.....DO be descriptive in your logs. That's what makes the logs interesting to read.
  10. It's in the Geocaching Discussions section, right under Clayjars Chat. Can't you see it? Sorry....it's only visible to those who are paid members. It's there....honest.
  11. I'm the only one in the family with the caching gene. Maybe I was adopted? I visited my sister and her husband in southern WA state last month and begged them to take me to the Original Stash in OR. They complied, but they were obviously not very enthused. And now my caching partner is getting ready to move out of the area. I'm all alone in the caching world.
  12. Seeing it explained in those terms, it makes more sense to me now.
  13. The AS regulars are in the Off Topic forum in the Cheers thread for the most part. But it's for premium members only, at least for now. Don't know if it will change or not. You know how rumors are. So far Torry and Webfoot have upgraded. The gang is all there....for the most part. Join us.
  14. There have been several. The bad part is that at least 4, if not 5 of them, were on the SAME DAY! I was so frustrated. I thought I was the worst cacher in the world. I was about to hang up my GPS and take up croquet instead. It wasn't until a few days later when DNF"s started showing up on these caches and the owners confirmed that they were missing. I felt so much better about my caching abilities after that. But boy, what are the odds of hitting that many muggled caches in one day. Of the other DNF's on my record, there are a few that I won't even bother to hunt again.....just nothing compelling about the cache or location on those. There are others that I returned to, determined to come out victorious.
  15. Did we mention that we stocked the waters with piranha???? I knew there had to be a catch.
  16. My cache partner and I are eagerly awaiting winter. Neither one of us likes hiking in the heat, so cooler weather will be a blessing. It doesn't rain much here in So. Calif and we already have our eyes on possible caches to do when the summer heat is gone.
  17. Goody....get the victims (er, I mean recruits) while they're young. She will soon forget that there was a time when caching was not a part of her life. A new generation of cachers is born.
  18. Awww, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I'd say you had a GREAT day caching. That's what I love about this game....there are so many things that make it a success besides finding that ammo box. Good job.
  19. Yay!! <cheers....deafening applause> Nothing can quite compare to that thrill of finding your "first". I'm glad you enjoyed it because this is just the beginning of a new way of life. Welcome to the "club".
  20. You need to shell out 30 bucks for that option. It's a benefit of Premium membership.
  21. I think that once you have 10 forum posts, you lose the "tadpole" nametag. It's for forum purposes only.
  22. <drool> I'm so jealous. I want to be like you when I grow up. I wouldn't begin to know how to cache "WH style", but it sounds like my kind of heaven. When I finally get a laptop, I may become your new best friend as I pick your brain for tips and ideas. I have a small stack of cache pages of my area and they are in the GPSr too. If an opportunity to cache comes up, I take the pages and the GPSr and I'm out the door. I plan trips too, if I'm going to be out of my immediate area. It gets kind of cumbersome and confusing. I have a PDA but I am still working on getting the cradle to work, so no paperless caching for me right now.
  23. Wowie . Combine this little ditty with your geocachers greeting song "Geocachers are we, runy, muny, meee" and I am becoming increasingly relieved that I don't live in northern NJ.
  24. I've been caching since Feb. I have over 60 finds, no hides. I've considered hiding, but right now if I did it, it would be another parking lot micro in a vast sea of parking lot micros. If/when I place a cache(s) I want it to be a spot worth seeing. A location that I want to take someone to. A location that would make the finder say TFTC and MEAN it. When I find one of those special spots, I'll work on placing a cache there. I do my part in other ways. I leave decent swag. I helped a neglected cache by taking a new container and some swag. I do not see myself as "sucking the sport dry". We can each give back in our own ways and that doesn't necessarily mean placing a cache.
