  1. re the official geocaching paid for app: When we go out to maintain our 90+ geocaches and the ones that NEED maintaining don't show up because they have been disabled because they need maintaining and when we do find them there there is no option to add OWNER MAINTENANCE we have to WRITE NOTE So its quite hard to keep track of what we have done
  2. many thanks - wasn't quite what I meant though: One of our caches on a main towpath was rendered nonviable by over enthusiastic strimming, so we has to retreat the cache down a sidepath. problem was, the sidepath was curving around coming into conflict with other caches on the main path, and, we were retreating into an SSSI area. OK the correct answer is out in the field constantly rechecking distance to nearest cache, but it would be nice to be able to plan in advance with a map showing an exclusion zone around existing caches - and everything else!
  3. 98 actually, just added another one GC4DMP3 It's fun and a good excuse to visit a lovely area rather than having to keep traveling farther from home to find fresh caches. But adding caches is difficult - I really wish there were an easy way to put an 'exclusion zone' ring around existing caches on a map with GSAK. And still getting errors loading caches. what is all this about? ================================================================= Current Macro: C:\geocaches\50 miles.gpx Error in Macro at line: 45538 include Sessile Oak, Beech, Mountain Ash, Holly and Wild Service. ==================================================================
  4. thanks for that - strong vote for GSAK then To date we've been using smartphone - cant read the screen in sunlight or rain, battery life, - and Lefend HCx - often found we've cycled straight past a cache needing maintaining as info out of date and no logs. Etrex 20 should solve it - with daily updating - but running a query and drag dropping the results don't yet give me any assurance the data is actually there - can't check them all! Is there a quick way to see how many caches are loaded on an Etrex 20?
  5. Their reasoning was a question to me also, but it is their "owned" caches they are wanting to load, not their finds. GSAK as stated is an option, but if they want them on their GPSr it seems to me that Drag & Drop is the easiest most straight forward method. Nothing wrong with keeping them on GSAK, except they seem to want to keep them on the GPSr to go maintain them regularly. At least that is what I think they are saying. Using GSAK to update status as you stated would be ok too. They could them load them to their GPSr using GSAK as they showed up needing some attention. Edit: GeoTrekker beat me.
  6. We have 97 caches along the River Lea that we are forever out maintaining. We have just acquired a new GPS, an Etrex 20, so need to set up new regular ways of doing things. So run a daily query listing all our own caches, but then there are a lot of different option to get those onto the Etrex Do we use Basecamp, GSAK or just unzip the query straight to the GPX folder. If that is simplest do we need to first delete all the contents of the GPX folder each time? Many thanks
  7. It was IE9 Tracking Protection that was blocking logs from appearing on geocaching site. Turned that off and good to go again Prolly need to learn how to exclude sites in TP Many thanks WW
  8. Thanks for the reply, but i have exited and restarted and still no logs unless i use firefox. Guess thats the solution then - keep away from microsoft products (DOS 5.1 was pretty good, though) Thanks for your time
  9. Checked Internet Options/Security/Custom/Scripting/Enable active scripting made no difference was I looking in the right place?
  10. Using new laptop with Windows 7 IE9 no logs are shown on the pages for our caches. Gets as far as the bar with xx logged visits, the icons for log types, view logbook/image gallery but no logs listed after this. Selecting <view logbook> gives "no logs found" Loaded Firefox and all logs shown normally, tried ie8 on the older XP comp and all normal there as well, so seems to be an issue with ie9 thanks
  11. The Pound Shop - in Enfield anyway - has a stock of rock caches for £1 each Great bargain, usually £2-£3 Just when geocaching hit the mass market I have no idea, and be warned these caches are not fully waterproof - log has to be kept in sealed plastic.
