  1. Medical Transcriptionist. I listen to doctors going on and on about something or other and get it on paper. I understand and can spell really long words. :0)
  2. I just got my Colorado 300 this week and there are no complaints yet (I can't blame the unit for my DNF!). One 'wow' moment for me was when I first powered it on and I got satellite lock ON MY COUCH! I used to have to go out to my parking lot with my old GPSMap 60c because of all the trees. So far, so good! Avrohead
  3. Thanks all for your help. I'm gonna upgrade to 7. Avrohead
  4. Sorry if this rehashes an old topic. We are just getting back into Geocaching after having our truck, along with my Garmin GPSMap 60c and my PDA stolen last September. I just ordered the Colorado 300 and was getting everything else set up to go caching when I noticed that this time the upgrade of GSAK will cost. I have been a registered user long enough that I can get a discount, but is V.7 worth it, or is it necessary to support the Colorado? Thanks Avrohead
  5. No clue. Is that bad? I don't even know how many first to finds we have, maybe 3 or 4? MaisOui :0)
  6. No, I think you win... The damage they did to it (that we know about so far!) makes me wonder if it's worth having it back... MaisOui
  7. Ditto that, but it was just last Friday, and they took the whole truck! I wonder why it is that we got the truck back, but not the GPS? Somebody loves them some Garmin! MaisOui :0)
  8. Here's a linky to Angie's outdoor in Barrie, not far from the waterfront... http://www.angiesoutdoor.ca/geocaching/ I don't know of any others off the top of my head, we aren't up there much, but we did buy some stickers and travel bugs there the last time we went into Barrie Marie :0)
  9. Does anyone know Hide'n'Seeker from the Napanee area? They have had my Avro Arrow travel bug since October 2006. It looks like they are inactive, so my only hope is that another active cacher knows them. It's our first travel bug, and almost lasted a whole year! I have tried to contact them through Geocaching.com with no results. Please help. Avrohead
  10. While we didn't know Tony well, we have exchanged a few emails and (as has been mentioned numerous times here) he has been the first to welcome us at a couple of events. His sense of humour was always evident, and his friendliness will definitely be missed by all who met him, even if it was just briefly. Our prayers will be with Sue and those close to her as she recovers physically, and our condolences go out to those who knew and loved Tony. Marie & Steve
  11. I'm having some trouble with Gsak not listing some archived/unavailable caches as such. I found this out after spending an hour at a 4 terrain cache. When I got home, guess what? It's been archived for months! This prompted me to check other caches in Gsak. I found quite a few. Has anyone else experienced this? At first I thought maybe I was missing a setting. My wife (Maisoui) said it was an "RTFM" error. Help! I want to trust my Gsak again! Avrohead
  12. Ok, thanks for letting us know. We had stumbled upon the cats (not literally!) 16 years ago, and will still likely take the next generation there next week anyway, smiley or no... MaisOui :0)
  13. We are planning a trip to Ottawa on March break. I seem to remember a cache dealing with the cats on the 'Hill'. I can't seem to find it. Has it been archived, am I just missing it, or am I crazy and it never really existed? Looking forward to caching in the Capitol. Avrohead
  14. On the other hand, in a similar situation, we had found the container, stash sheet and several bits of burned plastic strewn around the cache site (and the actual cache site, according to the owner), but no log. We did assume that a pad of burned paper was the log... We also contacted the owner to let them know it had been muggled, but claimed it as a DNF because we did not find and sign the log. Others in our area have found caches in a similar state and claimed it as a find. Are they wrong to do so? I don't know, but for us signing the log=found. MaisOui :0)
  15. Wouldn't you know... Trying to go across Canada on 500.00 or less of fuel, and gas prices go up 30-40% this week! Good luck, and safe travels... MaisOui :0)
  16. Hey! There's hope for my family, yet! Avrohead made a t-shirt that says something about using million dollar military satellites to find tupperware in the woods, and has found it to be a conversation starter when anyone gets close enough to read it. We are quite selective about who we give details about the game, and still have had the experience of getting the rolling eyes, and the "uh-huh..whatever" attitude. However, we have also got people interested in going out with us. Granted, most of them were nerds... MaisOui :0)
  17. We are coming up to Sudbury in August for our niece's wedding, and would like to take some of our family caching in the area if there is downtime. We have several family members who are interested, and with us all thrown together in one hotel I'm sure we can get it together to do a few caches. I'm looking for some nice beginner caches (interesting area, neat hides, reasonable terrain, etc.) within a half-hour or so; also at least one where the terrain is not difficult at all since Grandma may come along. So Sudbury-and-area cachers, this is your chance to showcase your favourites! What can you suggest? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give. MaisOui :0) Edit: Hey, happy Canada Day, as well!
  18. HTML idiot here.... Would I just copy the code and paste it into the "description" area of my caches for the petitions to show? MaisOui :0)
  19. WE DID IT!!!!!! The Magnificent Seven (Blue Quasar, GeoDog, Dr. Clean, Fizbot, JTEE, Amazon Annie, and myself), came out alive! I just want to thank everyone for the great day of caching and friendship. I can almost move! Avrohead
  20. You just described every motorcycle ever made - and they can handily outperform economy cars. This isn't such a crazy comparison as both seat 2 people and offer very little in terms of protection during a crash. I've never seen a smart car up close, and really I'm not trying to stir anything up, I just wonder whether a smart car has more cargo space than a motorcycle, for luggage and what have you? MaisOui :0)
  21. With the warmer weather approaching, I was wondering what other cachers wear while out in the woods. In the cooler weather, I have my jacket with lots of pockets for my GPSr, PDA, and swag. What will I do in the summer? My Hydrapak won't hold much. My PDA can go on my belt, but what about swag and GPSr (I have broken a few of the belt clips, and almost broke my 60c while on my belt)? I was thinking about getting a fishing vest (Fathers Day is approaching), but thought I would check with the masses for a consensus. Avrohead
  22. I think the best thing that Geocaching has replaced in our lives is "lump time." We were a family of couch potatoes, doing nothing but sitting around watching TV. Now, when we have some free time, instead of looking for the remote, we look for caches! TFTA! (Thanks for the Activity!) Avrohead
