  1. Ok, I was not aware that GSAK would talk to my PN40 w/o the plugin. My how things change in a year. Using the GPS menu in GSAK, I set up for my PN40 and then sent the waypoints. I sent 20 and received 20. I am pleased. Thanks for the help.
  2. My family and I have been inactive over the past year regarding geocaching. We are trying to get re-started, but I have hit a snag. Computer specifics: Win7 x64 Firefox 3.6.3 IE 8 GSAK 7.7.1.34 I have tried multiple times via GSAK and the geocaching webpage to send caches to my PN40 and I cannot. From the webpage, I click on the "send to GPS" button and it brings up the second window. From there, I can select Garmin, Delorme, or Magellan. If I click on Delorme, it gets to the first step and stops telling me to download the app. At this point, I've downloaded and installed it about four times and I get the same result every time - The dialog stops at the first step telling me to download the app. If I go through GSAK, I get the dialog about checking in my GSAK directory. When I do that, the folder I'm looking for is not there - "DeLormeSendtoPN40PlugIn." I hope that's enough information. At thsi point, I'm really frustrated as it has never been this difficult to get all this stuff working together. Thanks
  3. Meh... Our last name is Black and there are five of us (me, the wife, and our three kids). It started out as TeamObsidian5, but, man, that was way too hard for me to spell .
  4. Ok, you're telling me in this posting that: 1. Folks are too worried about DNF's that they won't log them? C'mon folks, it's a GAME! I enjoy a smiley as well as the next guy and, yes, I'm a n00b, but sheesh... To me, a DNF is a challenge. I'll stay up at night trying to solve it. It's another puzzle to be solved. 2. This has been hashed out before. 3. Nothing has been resolved. C'mon. Quit whining and get out and cache.
  5. I live in Alabama where we have summer three out of the four seasons of the year: Almost Summer Summer Still Summer Winter I have only used the Technu you use on your skin to keep from getting the oil to adhere. I don't like it. After about 5 minutes outside in June or July, I am extremely over-heated. It's as if the Technu does not allow the sweat to evaporate (evaporate is relative considering our high humidity). I realize this is probably not the product you're using (I'm guessing you're using the wash). I only say this so anyone else looking at this thread will realize there are different versions of Technu.

    You Got Me

Man, ok, I admit, after only 12 days, I'm hooked. I drive a lot in my job (a lot for me - 100 to 200 miles / day). All I can think about is caching... Ooh, that looks like a good spot to hide one - I'll have to look up and see if there's another one too close. Aww, man... that would make such a good spot but where in the heck would someone park. Man, that DNF is really bugging the crap outta me. LMAO... I never thought to look there (after seeing an advertisement for a particularly well-hidden cache container). For the rest of you n00bs (like me), make sure you peruse all that geocaching.com has to offer including the store and the international vendors. I have gotten clues for caches by looking all over the place, and, just WOW, I love a mystery/puzzle. Our family only has 11 finds under our collective belt (my wife and kids won't let me cache alone ), and we are waiting to hide our first until we have some more experience, but... just, WOW... have I got some ideas.
  7. Hmm, I don't have MapSource and my PN-40 should be arriving any day now. I was able to open the file (KML) in a text editor and all information is readable. I may try looking at it in more detail later and see what I can get out of it. I have had to do this before when getting information from my StreetAtlas program to a Nuvi I use at work. I'll keep you posted. I thought about this all day yesterday. I have no idea why I would want to manually edit the KML file and make this harder than it already is. I think the 3-legged route is probably the best option for me at the moment. Thanks for all you help and suggestions.

  9. I appreciate the help. It's really clunky and will require at least three separate routes, but it should work. Thanks.
  10. I've only been doing this a week, but I prefer the GPS pointing me in the right direction by using the compass.
  11. I put in a route to upload today. The route is incorrect (it'll get you there, but it's not the shortest way). I drive to this town several times a month and Google Earth has me going a different way. Does anyone here know how to tell Google Earth which route to take or do you know how to insert "vias?" Thanks.
  12. Even after the first one, you'll still be scratching your head. Actual scenario at one of our newest finds: Wife: Did you check that? Me: I'm not touching that. Wife: Ok... We continue searching... Wife: You sure that's not it? (same item) Me: I don't care if it is, I'm not touching it. <kicks it for smiley #8> It was a really great hide and the family had a good chuckle at daddy.
  13. Just wanted to introduce myself and my family. I have been reading the forums (getting started forum mostly) and really enjoying the reading. I've come away with a lot of good information: 1. What to put in a cache bag (I've got an Army mapcase I'm using right now). 2. Types of rechargeable batteries - gonna go w/ the Rayovac (or similar) hybrid. I've been using Energizer rechargeables for years and they're showing their age. Fortunately, we've been able to get started on the cheap - so far, I've only spent the $30 on the premium membership and it's already paying for itself. Stuff we already had: 1. eTrex Legend (old serial model). I can download to it if I'm patient - get a lot of failed downloads. We also have an eTrex Venture. 2. Axim X5 PDA for paperless caching. Basically a "throw-away" from work. The guy who had it wasn't using it at all. 3. Already mentioned the Army map case. 4. Small digital camera. 5. Silva compass. BTW, these are *great* little compasses (compii?) and are available from Wal-Mart for about $10-12. I don't yet have a logbook to put in the cache bag and, after today, I discovered I need a pen in there that can write in the rain. We're all really enjoying playing. Thanks for the wonderful sport.
