  1. Two weeks ago I found a cache (ammo can) that had been stolen except the log where the thief left a note saying the swag was only suitable for a 2 year old and had stolen the cache. Unbelievable I cant speak for the thief. In my experience the swag has varied over the last 7 years in my primary caching area, to more young children's items (plastic people, cars etc). I also have noticed this in my most recent trip to the NW. Why? It is similar to cache container trends IMO. As the saying goes "these are historic times". just my observations and opinion.

  3. Started caching as a result of a friend from Wyoming introducing me to a 60csx as I recall. Was highly motivated then had medical issues which put me on the sidelines for over a year. Have actively tried to get out once a week after reviewing and downloading caches that look to be challenging, found within the last few months and have a description of some sort that applies to the cache. It is not necessary to have a hint. Numbers is not my goal in fact when I see a string of caches all within 562 feet of each other I normally ignore the series. I have only hidden one cache and it disappeared somewhere in Mexico. I have locations and the goods to put out more caches and need to do so this winter. I don't visit the forums very often as they seem to be un moderated ego street fights too often. I was fortunate enough to visit Geocaching HQ this summer which rejuvenated me.

  5. Ditto ambrosia.....I found one recentley that was buried within an inch of the top in hard pan that was still totally in like new condition yet several years old. I am reluctantly holding on to some newish cans as micros have pretty much taken over in most of the areas I cache.
  6. I wonder about what's different in your area, because I've never found a rusted ammo can like how you're describing. I suppose if a person put out an ammo can without sanding and painting it, the container could get rusty, but I've found a few of those and they're still openable. Too bad, because I think they're the best sort of container.
  7. Anyone have a unserviceable one cheep..cheap......I need a few non electronic parts.
  8. The 400 or at least the 400t is already out in the cold. My off/on switch rubber cover failed and garmin tells me they no longer support this model. I grant you it is several years old but you can't tell me they no longer use the same component in later models. I now use the eraser on a pencil to turn the unit on or off and dont go into wet environments.
  9. Army, 1962-1983, Viet Nam, Alaska and a ton of other interesting places. Would not trade the experience for anything. Even fortunate enough to have Uncle pay the bill for some civilian schooling
